Re: problems with xserver 1.7
I also have experinced problems with nouveau. I have nouveau git driver and drm git. If I upgrade the server to 1.7, install the necessary tool and recompile nouveau, when rebooting it start correctly. but as soon as I launch glxgears, it crash hard. Starting xbmc gives me a kdm prompt. Looking at the trace, I found an error in the kernel path for DMA allocation. Same kernel, same driver (well recompiled but...) so I think there is a problem with corrupted data passed to kernel for allocating DMA channels. Reading the git log, it seems something like that has been fixed rc3- 1.7.0 -- eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#545557: me too
Hi, will there a proper integration into debian? A correct startup script would be nice too, or a hint in the README.Debian howto integrate into GNOME/KDE. -- Florian Reitmeir -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#494167: xvfb: crashes due to dbus/hal problems
Hi Brad, sorry for only replying a year later... On Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 11:15:25 -0400, Brad King wrote: I run tests of a project that needs an X server on a nightly basis. For years I've been running them off-screen using Xvfb. I start an instance: Xvfb :52 -screen 0 1024x768x24 -fbdir /tmp/xvfb.52 -ac and then run tests with DISPLAY=:52. Recently I updated my debian testing system and the server has started crashing regularly after a few hundred tests have run. I tried building the version of the code being tested to a time before this problem started but it didn't help. Unfortunately I've been unable to reproduce the crash except by running all the tests (and eventually one crashes Xvfb but which one is not repeatable). However, I've localized the problem somewhat. The Xvfb process reports a bunch of these messages (about 1 per test): -- FreeFontPath: FPE /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing. -- This message used to appear on server reset, and is not an issue. Later it reports a few messages of this form: -- [config/hal] couldn't initialise context: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.LimitsExceeded (Connection :1.20 is not allowed to add more match rules (increase limits in configuration file if required)) -- and then crashes. If I stop the dbus daemon (/etc/init.d/dbus stop) the crash does not occur. I found some discussion about this error here: http://www.nabble.com/org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.LimitsExceeded-td17000158.html but didn't see much about fixing it. I tried to reproduce this with Xvfb 1.7.0 (the latest upstream version). I ran 'Xvfb :1' and 'for i in `seq 200`; do DISPLAY=:1 xterm -e sleep 1', and sure enough after some time I get this: [config/hal] couldn't add match rule: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.LimitsExceeded (Connection :1.1255 is not allowed to add more match rules (increase limits in configuration file if required)) [config/hal] cannot detect a HAL startup. Xvfb doesn't crash in this version, though, which is an improvement. In 1.6.x, Xvfb is plagued by bug#529927, so it crashes before the dbus connection limit is reached. nvidia packages and libvdpau...
hi there... A few weeks ago, nvidia announced that their vdpau wrapper library was going to be split/removed from the nvidia driver distribution ( first announced in : http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=138880) Currently, all vdpau libraries are packaged with nvidia driver (in particular nvidia-xxx-libvdpau) Stephen Warren from nvidia submitted various bugs describing what structure should be adopted, like here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/432172 The main downside with the current nvidia / vdpau drivers as they are packaged now, is that any packages built using VDPAU (mythtv, mplayer), has a dependency on a specific nvidia drivers version. As you can't switch graphic drivers easily... I've built nvidia drivers without libvdpau, as per nvidia instructions moving libvdpau to its own separate package. I was wondering what is the best way to submit it to debian/ubuntu ? Two modifications are required. libvdpau package (that includes libvdpau0 and libvdpau-dev) and the nvidia drivers to explicitely exclude libvdpau and libvdpau_trace (or more accurately, not remove how they are included now)... Here is libvdpau package source code: http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos/release/libvdpau_0.2-0ubuntu6.tar.gz nvidia drivers for use with new libvdpau: 180.60 http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos/release/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180_180.60-0ubuntu9.tar.gz 185.18.36 http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos/release/nvidia-graphics-drivers-185_185.18.36-0ubuntu2.tar.gz 190.36 http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos/release/nvidia-graphics-drivers-190_190.36-0ubuntu6.tar.gz Then all packages with a build dependency to nvidia-xxx-libvdpau-dev should be changed to libvdpau-dev And now packages should now directly reference any nvidia-xxx-libvdpau package or link with libvdpau_nvidia.so I'm happy to modify libvdpau package in any ways you see fit and maintain it in the future... Bug#549626: ITP: libvdpau -- Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix. This library provides free wrapper of the Video Decode and presentation API.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Jean-Yves Avenard jyaven...@gmail.com * Package name: libvdpau Version : 0.2 Upstream Author : Aaron Plattner aplatt...@nvidia.com * URL : http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~aplattner/libvdpau * License : Nvidia free Programming Lang: C Description : Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix. This library provides free wrapper of the Video Decode and presentation API.
