RE: [Declude.JunkMail] compatibility question

2006-06-20 Thread Alvaro Dioni

Sorry, not accusing Declude, just presenting the facts, and, as you can see
I am not the only one with some spam not beeing scanned.
Your old mail gave me a possible explanation that makes sense

I am using Imail 8.15 HF2 with declude 4.2 as a gateway, no users on the
server.
I am new with Hijack, (and I am pretty happy with it)so maybe I have
something not configured...
Here are the lines from my log files:

Imail Log, Message arrives:
20060619 032634 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (7bd9108d00ac9f3f) [221.219.115.68]
MAIL FROM: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Virus Log:
06/19/2006 03:26:38.703 q7bd9108d00ac9f3f.smd Scanned: Virus Free [MIME: 1
4807]

Hijack Log:
06/19/2006 03:26:38.703 q7bd9108d00ac9f3f.smd Outgoing from 221.219.115.68:
; threshold 1 reached; holding temporarily.

Never reached theshold 2 so was processed again, Imail Log:
20060619 033414 127.0.0.1 SMTP (7bd9108d00ac9f3f) processing
D:\spool\q7bd9108d00ac9f3f.smd

And delivered

Declude Hijack log has not reference at all of this message,

Let's not go accusing Declude of reintroducing a bug that was not really a
bug with Declude but more of a configuration issue that led to the problem.

Are you saying you are doing Store and Forward with Imail without having
Imail configured to only accept for valid recipients?

I am also receiving some SPAM not scanned by Declude, I've found this old
(2004) mail that explains why (thanks to John T):
 http://www.mail-archive.com/declude.junkmail@declude.com/msg19342.html

I am using version 4.2, it seems that this old bug is present again.

If not, tell me what to do...
 Thanks

 Robert

 Im running 8.22 hf2 and Declude 4.1.
I would not suggest going to 4.2 as I was getting some leakage of mail
 that seemingly had not
been scanned by declude. I could not find any record in either the
declude,
 or the virus log files.
I found that the headers had no declude entries. That was version 4.2
Build
 12.

I reverted back to 4.09 and the problem resolved itself, I later moved
back
 to 4.1 and things still
 are working well.

I'd stay away from 4.2 until there is a fix.  This was reported as not
being
 an Imail problem, only
smartermail, but I had the same thing happen with Ipswitch. (this is my
 opinion, I could be wrong)

I have a firewall blocking broken and non compliant addresses, but still
 got maybe
4 or 5 per day out of 200 for my address. So I'm not sure of the root
cause.
 I was most worried about
no record of the email in the virus log. I still can't figure out how they
 got delivered if Declude didn't
 process the mail.

Sorry if this is waste of time, but I want to be absolutely sure before I
do
 anything to my server.

Is Declude 4.2 fully compatible with iMail 8.22?

 Thanks,

 Robert

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Hijack and gateways (WAS compatibility question)

2006-06-20 Thread John T \(Lists\)
Notice the change in the subject line.

I am using Imail 8.15 HF2 with declude 4.2 as a gateway, no users on the
 server.

That is the issue you are experience, using Imail/Declude as a blind
gateway.

This configuration is no longer recommended do to the proliferation of
dictionary type spam campaigns where they are sending spam to every possible
address not carrying if it is good or bad.

It is has been recommended for some time now to configure Imail with the
actual e-mail addresses as aliases for the actual destination server. See
Sandy's posts for the link to Address2Aliases.
