[Declude.Virus] Sobig- The Morning After

2003-08-23 Thread Doug McKee
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE GROUP !
DECLUDE IS AN INCREDIBLE PRODUCT !!!
KUDUS to you Scott.
Grateful THANKS to all the members who contributed yesterday !

I usually delete about 2500-3000 files from the virus folder every
morning.
The load in the last 24 hours was a few over 20,000.

The banname feature and the badheaders caught about a bunch.

The info received from the group allowed us to prepare and to advise our
clients for what could have been much worse than it was.

Blocking the port kept a PC somewhere in our network from doing any
damage. It made over 1200 attempts to contact a server outside our
network in the first hour. We will hunt it down and make sure it gets
cleaned up.

I am honored to be a member of this group.
Sincere Thanks,
Doug McKee COO

I actually don't think it'd be too bad .. the keys would be stored on
the
mail server, the program you call would find the body, encrypt it, pass
declude a return true, or however it's handled, and away it goes out to
the
world. You are, of course, assuming that the user isn't using webmail,
and
that they're using the imail box to send mail (relay). The other catch
would be decryption .. maybe not so difficult either.

I even tried setting up a computer running MS Outlook 2002 with the
 following...

 Receive mail on Account A
Setup a rule to forward all messages from Account A out on Account B
 Setup PGP on Account B

Therefore internal users send mail to Account A. The rule forwards
the
mail to external users via encrypted Account B.

It seems logical enough, but Outlook 2002 would default to sending
out
on Account A rather than B, because the mail was originally received
on
Account A. I even tried changing the default account, but it never
 worked correctly.

Have you tried PGP on the client side?

I've used it before, but the only problem is that you have to
distribute
your public key to everyone that you're sending messages to. Then
they
 have
to install PGP on their machine, create a public key for them, and
then
install your public key to read your message.

Also, there was a big security hole discovered in PGP a few months
ago.
 I
haven't heard anything about it recently as to whether they've fixed
it

 not.

my

I currently use SSL on the webmail interface, but for this instance
the
external users would need internal mail accounts.

It would be nice if there was a simple app, like declude, that would
 encrypt
outgoing emails. A suggestion for a future release ;-)

Wouldn't the double extension just get blocked by the exe rule?

It would, if you block .exe files (which many ISPs can't do, for

I have my logging set to LOW but my log files are still about 40-50Mb

What is the appropriate way to handle such a volume of info and not
spend all day doing it?

One option would be to use the LOG_OK NONE option -- if you add that line
to the \IMail\Declude\virus.cfg file, it will prevent log file entries from
occurring on E-mail that is virus-free.

needed to be retrieved without the sender re-sending it.

Scott,
How is that important email identified?

The command line arguments are in the list in the install htm file.

[Declude.Virus] DNS

2002-06-04 Thread Doug McKee

Good Morning,
Can anyone please furnish me an example of their DNS set up to run Declude
on a standalone as a scanner and passing the mail to another server behind
the Declude? Are you setting the declude machine as primary mail and the
other one as secondary?
Thanks,
Doug McKee
