Thanks a lot for putting this together!
I've added some remarks in the document.
All in all a great overview of the work and intentions and result.
Though I'm not happy with every detail of the work: very nice :)

I've read of people wishing there is a OLD<>NEW overview for the various
modules, so I hope to see that somewhere / sometimes too.

Cheers,
Cor

[libreoffice-design] Blogpost about menu changes

2016-01-18 Thread Heiko Tietze
Dear UX folks,

some questions came up on the bugtracker regarding the massive changes in
the menus. People are afraid that there is no good reason for the
modification and the entries are just shuffled around. To explain the
reasons I prepared a blog post with the intention to published the text on
our design blog. Since we speak with one voice I'd like to ask you to
proof-read, comment, and improve the draft.

2016-01-18 Thread Martin Srebotnjak
Hi,

I have a deja vu with these features, they resemble the old ones from
several last version so I do not know why we should stay with this concept
if it is starting to repeat itself.

Why not have 3 different questions/teasers for this promotion?

I mean mybe we need to change the concept of the "top 3" to avoid sounding
boring and repeating ourselves.

Yes, thanks a lot, I'm sure that communication of this kind will help a
lot to disseminate the reasoning behind the changes.

I'll try to find some volunteers in the FR community to do that, even in
French, it should be easy and quick to translate once done. I'll keep
you updated

Dark theme support and 32px icon set? I think it is in 5.1. maybe the 32px
icons are only for HIDPI, I'm not sure.

This design would fit very well for the printing of stickers.
IMO only the tag line should be smaller (or maybe without?).

Would you have time to do that shortly .. :)

Re: [libreoffice-design] LibreOffice 5.1 Announcement

2016-01-18 Thread William Gathoye
Hi guys,

Not really related to your landing page (web), just a personal reflection shared
with coworkers and well known Belgian marketing gurus from my startup incubator:

1. Do not use a splash screen with a version number in it. The end user does not
care about which version he has, for him/her this is just LibreOffice. Moreover,
this is counterproductive as it tends to confuse the end user.
If I'm not mistaken, the current "LibreOffice 5" landing splash screen does not
respect the official LibreOffice colors. The green is to flashy. [1]

2. The same applies for the "5" picture in the About dialog box. Stupid.

3. The same with the "5" appearing when LibreOffice is launched (not via a
submodule like Writer or Calc). The recent document view, when empty, should
just recall this is just LibreOffice not "5". 5 is not a trademark like HTML5
is.

4. The green color on your Plone (? IIRC) website does not respect your branding
guideline neither.

On the website, the RGB value is rgb(0, 165, 0), while it should be
rgb(24,163,3).

I already reported that issue at the time you migrated away from your old
website end even in person to the guys I saw personally at FOSDEM last year, but
no update on that topic.

As I won't be at FOSDEM this year, I wouldn't have the ability to remind you
this topic again, so consider this message as a reminder for this year ;-)

5. Pixinko, the development and communication company I co-founded a few months
ago is willing to help. Feel free to ping me in the future if you need web
related fixes.

In this regard, as I'm a fervent Twitter user (@wget42), it should be nice if I
could get access to the LibreOffice twitter account. Picture sizes have changed
on Twitter since their UI refresh from last year, all LibreOffice pictures are
now looking pixillated. *awful*.

Pixinko can also help in becoming a community manager. I follow the project and
TDF since 2010. The problem is that LibreOffice isn't aggressive enough on
Twitter. Confrontations with Office should be encouraged.

Just my 2 cents ;-)

Regards,

Re: [libreoffice-design] LibreOffice 5.1 Announcement

2016-01-18 Thread Pedro Rosmaninho
I recommend to point out the following features:
1 - There is now support for cloud services with the Open/Save Remote Files
in Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox.(when there's reviews of LibreOffice on
the web the reviewers always pick on this) - it would be a good way to say
that LO now supports something that other Office suites had for a long time.
2 - New Menus and more improvements to Sidebar,
3 - Improvements to Calc format engine,
4 - Improvements to Impress UI (new icon based selection palette to
Sidebar), Save Background Image, etc...
5 - Interoperability is again improved with the new import filters, OOXML,
etc.

[libreoffice-design] Re: The LibreOffice Suite Desktop Icon

2016-01-18 Thread V Stuart Foote
Hello Chin ZeeYuen,

That is correct, the ML strips attachments but I had uploaded your
contributed icon design to the Nabble hosted ML archive to
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/file/n4170611/chinzeeyuen_Icon_redesign.zip

and as well attached them to The Documnent Foundation's Bugzilla instance
issue tdf#96835
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96835

So, we have the contribution. They look good, but I've no specific feedback
for you.

If you'd like to further develop them--the better place might be in the Wiki
under your own account, and link from there to the Design ML, or onto
appropriate pages in the Design area of the Wiki, or even upload to a
Bugzilla issue.

And, please be mindful that in contributing your original work you (by ML or
to the Wiki) you should assign an appropriate Creative Commons license: CC0,
CC-BY, or CC-BY-SA.

With these caveats...
Be careful not to violate copyright.
Don't try to emulate designs from competing software.
If you're using others' work in your design, be sure to comply with
their license.

Thank you!

Stuart
