[Bug 37694] Automatic photo import doesn't work with Canon PowerShot S30
Public bug reported: Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I own a Canon PowerShot S30 camera, which has a USB connector. This camera does not export a filesystem, so, in order to download your pictures, you have to pass through libgphoto2. With ubuntu 5.04, whenever I plug in the camera, a dialog appeared asking me whether I wanted to import my pictures; if I answered yes, then gthumb --import-photos was launched. Everything worked very smoothly. Unfortunately ubuntu 5.10 does not have this behaviour anymore. If I plug in the camera, nothing happens. I have to manually start gphoto2 or gthumb, which is quite a nuisance, since with worked automagically with the previous release. :-) Please note that if I manually start gthumb --import-photos it works, the problem is just in having it automatically started. At first I thought it was a problem with my configuration; I was advised to look into the gnome config editor and check that under /desktop/gnome/volume_manager 'autophoto' was enabled and 'autophoto_command' was set to 'gnome-volume-manager-gthumb %h'. I checked it and it was already set like that. [Bug 36570] Re: Volume applet: In Dapper, Master does not control Headphones
Thanks for your help. The reason that I describe both issues in this bug is that I wasn't sure which of them was the bug. When I have the headphones plugged in, I expect that the hotkeys will control the sound coming out of them. This, as I see it, could be controlled in one of two ways: - the hotkey could switch from controlling the sound to the speakers to controlling the sound to the headphones ( Bug #21270 ?); or - the hotkey could always control the Master, but the master could (as the name implies) control or trump all other sound devices. I believe that this is the behaviour in Windows. I actually prefer the second option as, if you have turned the sound right down, you wouldn't expect it to be very loud when you plug in headphones. If the first option is the way that it is meant to work and Bug #21270 adequately describes this, feel free to dupe this bug :). -- Volume applet: In Dapper, Master does not control Headphones https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36570 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 33820] Re: Pressing power button displays dialog, it does not switch off computer
I repeat my comments in bug #35141: This is, IMHO, a counterintuitive behaviour. Just consider _any_ of the electrical gear in your household, say your TV. You click On/Off, it powers up. You click On/Off again, it powers down, just that. Your TV does not show an on screen menu which forces you to go get the remote (note that the keyboard/mouse are not always that close to the CPU) just to confirm that yes, you really wanted to power it off. There is absolutely no point in forcing the user to reach the keyboard/mouse to confirm the action. If one wanted to do this, one would select LogOut directly from the menu, which is just two clicks away. This change in behavior renders the power-off button rather useless. Please return the physical power button to its old, pre-Dapper status: pressing it powers-down the PC. Or, even better, add an option in the energy settings dialog which allows one to choose whether to hibernate, restart or shutdown (or to choose each time). -- Pressing power button displays dialog, it does not switch off computer https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33820 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

No, wait! stop hotkey does nothing! rythmbox (which also does not have a stop button) instead can handle the stop hetkey, really stoping the song (not pausing it) well I just want to add two comments: 1) rythmbox handles all music hotkeys without having them set in keyboard shortcuts, while totem doesn't: it handles only the keys you set in keyboard shortcuts, of course except stop as I told you before 2) instead of rythmbox, totem handles music hotkeys only if its the current selected window (to well explain if I'm surfing the web with firefox, the hotkeys have no effect. [Bug 37383] Re: [Dapper] time-admin doens't switch off synchronisation with time servers
Your question is related to my issue about debian-installer (bug #37380). I will answer your question in a post at that bug. However, there seems to be another issue related to the Gnome time-admin panel or the Gnome clock panel: Have a look at the following scenario: 1. /etc/default/rcS UTC=yes (set by the installer) 2. In the Time and Date Settings panel, Periodically synchronize clock with Internet servers is checked off. 3. Ubuntu interprets the system clock (which is local time) as UTC 4. Ubuntu somehow finds out that the system clock deviates from UTC 5. After booting again, the clock remains unchanged until I boot into Windows again (and set the clock) or change the clock in the bios settings. My basic issue is that Ubuntu somehow knows the correct UTC and doesn't accept the time returned by the system clock. I guess that this is only possible by contacting a time server (but I am not sure). I would expect that this doesn't happen if I switch off synchronization with Internet servers. You might argue that this option only switches off periodic synchronization and that a sychronization at boot time (or whenever else) is ok. However, there should be a way to tell Ubuntu to stay away from the system clock. In a dual boot configuration, it is otherwise impossible to have a consistent clock setting. One observation that mystifies me: When I check the option Periodically synchronize clock with Internet servers on and off, ntp.conf remains unchanged; however ntpd, will be started and stopped as I would expect (and when stopped, ntpd will not show up after reboot again). Taking ntpd out of the equation obviously doesn't solve the problem. There could be something with the Gnome (or Ubuntu) clock applet. I have tried the following settings: - /etc/default/rcS UTC=yes - Periodically synchronize clock with Internet servers = off - clock applet: Use UTC=off If my system clock is 17:11 and my timezone is Europe/Berlin (currently UTC+2h), the applet should show 19:11. However, it shows 17:11. And after leaving Ubuntu, the bios clock is set to 15:11.
