[Bug 54741] Re: [Bug 54741] Re: New windows stealing focus -- and passwords?
Hi, jmspeex [2006-08-01 5:18 -]: that this doesn't seem to be a general nautilus issue I assume you meant metacity issue here. *blush* of course, sorry. I think there must be some soft of confusion in here. On all three Dapper machines I have, I have yet to see a *single* case of a window opening *without* getting focus. Maybe we do talk about different issues here. If you are currently typing, then new windows do not get the focus. However, they do get the focus if you didn't type anything in the last second or so. I. e. the behaviour tries to avoid suddenly typing stuff into another window, but if you merely use the mouse to start an application, the new window will have the focus. I just tried it again (with something like 'sleep 5; nautilus' and typing (or not) in another terminal). Can you please confirm that this doesn't work for you? For the record, I do not consider this as an 'Oh my god, the sky has fallen' bug, but focus stealing is annoying and dangerous enough to make sure it gets eventually fixed. If there is a problem in dapper, we need to judge the patch complexity whether or not we will fix it in dapper. -- New windows stealing focus -- and passwords? https://launchpad.net/bugs/54741 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 54741] Re: New windows stealing focus -- and passwords?
Funny, doing the 'sleep 5; nautilus' *and* typing in another window is the first case of things (sort of) behaving correctly. Any process other than nautilus steals the focus. If I try the same with xterm, gnome- terminal, konsole, gimp, ... the new window steals the focus. Clearly, it should be the WM's responsability to enforce sane focus policies, or else we'll end up filing thousands of upstream bugs. Even if it worked, one second timeout isn't very useful because it typically takes more than that between the time you type ssh remote.machine.net and the time you type your password. -- New windows stealing focus -- and passwords? https://launchpad.net/bugs/54741 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 54764] RFE: Handling of stitched images
Public bug reported: I own a Canon PowerShot A85 camera and am using gthumb on Dapper. I have taken some photos in Stitched mode. This keeps a bit of the previous picture on the screen so that one can take multiple photos that line up into one long photo. If I use the proprietary software in Windows, the following happens: 1) The photos are imported 2) The fact that I have taken photos in this mode is detected by the software and I am taken into a Stitching programme. This may be done off filenames as I cannot immediately see any tags about it. 3) The software automatically attempts to overlay the photos in the correct places and produces a chain of photos. 4) A square is drawn around the photos to give the biggest possible connected photo (when using this mode, one often slips up or down and this cuts off the bits either side). For most photos, this is all automatic and merely requires the user to confirm things. I would love to see this feature implemented in gthumb - it would give the feature to all cameras, not just mine. I realise that it is a lot of work and suggest that perhaps it could be done as follows: 1) Create a sub-programme to work with the photos manually. This would probably need the ability to manually move the photos around and the ability to draw a square to create one photo from them. 2) Create an option to select some photos and open the programme in (1). This would mean that the user could manually select photos to be stitched and somehow select Stitch these Photos. 3) Try to automate the process of lining the photos up by matching similar regions and the process of drawing a square around the combined picture. 4) Try to detect sets of stitched photos - this is likely camera specific. If all the above is done, this could be implemented camera-by-camera with the owners of unsupported cameras keeping to the manual method. 5) Perhaps a dialogue could be displayed after importing asking whether or not the user would like to enter the stitching programme. The detected sets could be displayed as a list of small pictures on one side. Note that I have also requested this functionality in f-spot as Bug #54762 ** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- RFE: Handling of stitched images https://launchpad.net/bugs/54764 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 52405] Re: gnome-panel eats 50% cpu for half an hour and flickers
Yes Matt, unless it has dependencies. To me it's not really an option. Removing menu-xdg would mean to remove: kcontrol kdelibs4c2a kicker koctave kwave libkonq4 menu-xdg tora But the problem still exists, and this is what's so troublesome with things like gnome. The problem is that the menu flickers, and the app goes crazy just because a symlink is pointing to outer space. To me, THIS is the bug, and the 'solutions' above are hacks which 'might' work, but it doesn't solve the bug. It is caused by bad programming, not because of vague packaging. A program 'crashing' because a symlink (which is not required by the program) doesn't exist or doesn't point to a valid file is a badly written program. In gnome, bugs reappear year after year, and the real problem doesn't get solved (like in gconf/gsd, which is a big jar of bugs). [Bug 54362] Re: Offer the correct driver in driver selection
I'm using Dapper 6.06 LTS. I have the same problem with my HP DeskJet 3820. Step to reproduce: 1) Start gnome-cups-manager. 2) Click New printer. 3) Under Use a detected printer select the printer that was detected by the HPLIP backend, usually this entry has an underscore in it. In my case HP DESKJET_3820. 4) Click Forward. Now you see that the wrong printer model is (pre)selected by gnome-cups-manager (see screenshot in attachment). DeskJet is (pre)selected while DeskJet 3820 is available in the list! This problem only appears for printers that use the HPLIP backend. When I choose the CUPS USB backend entry under Use a detected printer the right printer model is (pre)selected. So it looks like gnome-cups-manager handles the hplip backend different than the usb backend. This bug affects nearly everyone with a HP InkJet printer, since the HPLIP backend should be used with HP printers to allow printer maintenance. ** Changed in: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed ** Summary changed: - Offer the correct driver in driver selection + Wrong printer model is preselected when adding a HPLIP printer -- Wrong printer model is preselected when adding a HPLIP printer https://launchpad.net/bugs/54362 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 54779] Re: Keyring password
I don't mind if evolution is using gnome-keyring. Issue is until now, evolution never asked for a keyring passwd, and suddenly ask for one. The good thing is I've figured out which passwd it asked, and remembered its value... But now, I would like to have the previous behaviour back, i.e. no passwd when launching evolution, and it's not easy to find how to achieve that. So issues are: - unwanted change in evolution behaviour (new passwd dialog). - no hint about where to change/remove this password. Regarding gnome-keyring-manager itself, I did'nt find a way to change this password, but that's not an issue related to evolution. -- Keyring password https://launchpad.net/bugs/54779 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Check your /etc/hosts file (is your hostname correctly setup there if it needs to?), check your /etc/network/interfaces (got a lo entry? is it set to auto and inet loopback ?) Also, another symptom will be that stracing gnome-session-save --kill will block on some network stuff with 127.0.0.1 or something similar. Thanks for the response. [Bug 36581] Re: gam_server consumes lots of cpu time
Same here. Using reiser filesystem for partitions. Laptop with pentium M processor. I can see that gam_server uses 99.9% cpu then I start amaroK but after some seconds it drops to normal 0.4% during playtime. Here comes the weird part: sometimes gam_server uses more than 80% for no reason (e.g. amarok is in system tray and not used) and quitting amaroK doesn't help. During this odd behaviour gam_server apparently writes repeatedly invalid lenght some numbers into ~/.xsession-errors. -- gam_server consumes lots of cpu time https://launchpad.net/bugs/36581 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
