Re: [Bug 164739] Re: Gimp 2.4.0 have no language files

2007-11-24 Thread Nils M. Nielsen
I am using Norwegian as my native language. I only get up menu's in
English on the 2.4.0 version of The Gimp on Kubuntu 7.10. I can't find
the language files at all on the distro. In Kubuntu 7.04 I didn't have
this problem (another version of The Gimp).

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2007-11-24 Thread Sarah Hobbs
I don't see why this would need to be done in nautilus, per se. Why not
let me open the file as read only, then when it asks me if i want to
save (in gedit, vim, etc), say to save this file, you need root
privileges or something, and give the standard password prompt (with
grey screen) that the update manager, etc does? Seems far more sensible
to me.

[Bug 164844] [gutsy] totem crashes X when changing audio visualisation

2007-11-24 Thread Emmet Caulfield
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

On gutsy (amd64, 2.6.22-14-generic), Totem (2.20.0) comes with two
visual effects for playing audio: GOOM and Monoscope. Switching from
GOOM to Monoscope while playing an MP3 kills X (ATI proprietary
v.8.42.3) as suddenly and reliably as Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

Reproduce:
   1. Start totem with default audio visualisation GOOM
   2. Play any MP3 file
   3. Select Edit-Preferences-Display
   4. Under Visual Effects, change Type of visualisation to Monoscope
   5. Enter your username at the GDM login screen ;o)

[Bug 164845] Can't receive drag and drop chinese text from Firefox

2007-11-24 Thread Miguel Diago
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

(Related to bug #58458)

In Gutsy:
1- Select the following text in Firefox: 中文
2- Drag and it to a Gedit window.
3- Notice that strange characters appear.

And I am not very sure if this is a general Gtk bug, because actually I
can drag the chinese characters from Firefox to an Evolution or
OpenOffice window.

Also, notice that if I drag the characters from a KDE application like
Kate they are correctly represented in Gedit.

[Bug 164845] Re: Can't receive drag and drop chinese text from Firefox

2007-11-24 Thread Emmet Hikory
I can replicate this bug. Note that copy paste to gedit seems to work
fine, it's just drag drop that doesn't. Further, once the characters
are represented correctly in gedit, they can be dragged and dropped to
other the Epiphany location bar, Terminal, and Pidgin without
difficulties. Further, dragging from Epiphany to Pidgin to gedit works
as expected. Within Epihany, dragging '中文' to a textarea works, but
dragging from Pidgin or gedit results in '\u4e2d\u6587'.

[Bug 164802] evince on fiesty ( prev edgy and dapper)- just doesnt work at all !!

2007-11-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 7.04 and evince 0.8.1.0.ubuntu1 - I cant successfully open any
pdf documents. Attempts result in either a complete lockup with the
entire screen black and a session that will not close, or an evince
panel where the left hand side is grey and the right hand side white,
or the entire screen inside the panel is white. the best ive been able
to get is thumbnails across the top of the screen.Menus generally work
but attempts to change display view generally result in a failed session
that i have to kill. I have simply not been able to see any pdf using
evince.

I had the same issue previously with edgy, and dapper, on this machine, which
has an ati radeon 9600 XT video card and is using the fglrx driver. I apply
all ubuntu updates.
i have a second machine also running feisty in which evince works fine. it
doesnt have an ati video card.
I realise this isnt very usefull information for bug detection but
Im happy to assist where i can in tracking this down, as long as you treat me

[Bug 158248] Re: Nautilus gives error too many files open when copying

2007-11-24 Thread Patrick Wijnings
This is related to bug #125739 (mpg123 and mpg321 won't play audio
preview in Nautilus (Gutsy)). Nautilus opens a FIFO when you hover over
an audio (.ogg / .mp3) file, but doesn't close it because esound isn't
installed on gutsy anymore.

To work around this bug you can either disable audio previews or install
pulseaudio-esound-compat (and mpg321, sox and vorbis-tools if you want
nautilus to actually play sound).

You can continually monitor the number of FIFOs nautilus has opened with the
following command:
while /bin/true; do clear; lsof -c nautilus|awk '{ print $5; }'|sort|uniq
-c|grep FIFO; sleep 1; done

[Bug 164392] Re: Freeze on applications for a few seconds

2007-11-24 Thread unggnu
Does it happen with another OS like Windows or another distribution too? Maybe
you have an hardware issue.
Most IDE-Adapters are recognized as sdX because of a new driver. This shouldn't
be the problem. But maybe the new ata driver makes problems on your board so
please recheck it with another OS.

Something along the lines of nautilus's gio branch would be interesting.
The work on this branch means you can open a file from a GVFS recognised

use GVFS.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi, I've recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 and everything works fine, except for
my Evolution eMail client. When I open Evolution, the window opens at the size
of about 1 and 1/2 Screen sizes large. When I try to resize it, the system only
supports resizing in the Y direction but not in the X direction
(left/right). What do I need to do in order to fix this problem..?
Manay thanks in advance.

[Bug 164785] Typo in properties dialogue

2007-11-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This isn't actually a coding bug, but a typo in the actual user
interface. I didn't know any other place to report it. Typo location
is below:

Any time you right click on a drive or location and view properties, the
memory capacity information section of the first tab says Filesytem
type: ext3 instead of Filesystem type: ext3 underneath of the pie
chart.

Nothing huge, but it should be fixed since it is seen so often.

Thanks,

Re: [Bug 164739] Re: Gimp 2.4.0 have no language files

2007-11-24 Thread Nils M. Nielsen
I don't know. I have installed gimp by Adept manager, and added all I
meant was needed. I also was at the GREYCstoration homepage and loaded
that plug-in into gimp since the plug-in delivered with gimp is a little
bit old. The language selected for Kubuntu is Norwegian, and that works
OK. I will check if there is no language-pack-gnome-no-base installed
and come back with what I find.

Re: [Bug 164739] Re: Gimp 2.4.0 have no language files

2007-11-24 Thread Nils M. Nielsen
I have checked it. I have the language packages for KDE installed. Not
for GNOME. How should I know that? I thought that if gimp (or any other
program for that sake) depends on something special, as a special
language pack, it is supported.

If it works: Thank you! Else I come back.

Ok.
Interesting updates:
1. I turn on the notebook
2. I nmap it's IP. No samba is listening
3. I restart samba
4. I try to access the share using Nautilus. No good. Same error.
5. I nmap again the IP, samba shows.
6. I try to access the share again using Nautilus. It shows and browseable and

[Bug 162433] Re: Memory leak on totem in Ubuntu 7.10

2007-11-24 Thread nowshining
i had other apps open but just instant messaging - movie and system
monitor on one side with of course amor running, and so the memory
started at about 150-155mb - opened up totem it went to at about 160mb
and played a movie BW it went to about 163mb so I assume 163 - 165 or
2mb more would be normal, however it then slowly creeks up to higher and
higher it went up about 20-30mb more by doing nothing else or just
sending messages and typing which is odd or even doing nothing at all no
mouse moving, just watching it fluctuates higher and hten goes LOWER at
times and higher or goes up higher then higher, example 163.9 then 163.8
then 163.9 then 164.2 then so forth higher and then higher which it
shouldn't keep fluctuating by doing nothing else on the
computer.except sitting there watching

Once more: Thank you! It works as it should, but at least should the
installer check that all necessary element were in place. I use KDE,
therefore Kubuntu, and install the packages I find interesting. I don't
think of that a gnome package need other libraries and language pack
than a kde package, that should be handled automatically. If I had been
happy and got the gimp 2.4.1 compiled I think I would have got
everything automatically?

[Bug 164149] Re: evolution doesn't recognize meeting requests with the Prefer plain-text plugin enabled

2007-11-24 Thread Scott Sweeny
* Enable the Prefer plain-text plugin from the Edit-Plugins menu.
* Have someone send you a meeting request.

Instead of the fancy display with the accept and decline buttons, you'll
see a plain text message that lists the date, time, and place of the
meeting along with any notes.

[Bug 164804] Gnome Login Error

The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet.
The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_MultiLoadApplet.
The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_Panel_TrashApplet

Nautilus also fails to startup.

I worked around the problem by logging off. killall gconfd-2, and
removing gconf-username and mapping-username, orbit-username files from
the temp dir. Then the problem went away. However it eventually returns.

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-11-24 Thread Jose Armando Jeronymo
I have one 400MHz PC with 7.10 and a 2600MHz with 7.06. I try to XDMCP
from 400MHz to 2600MHz with the results described by the other
contributors above.

When trying a method described in one of the Ubuntu forum comments on
this problem, I noticed that the XDMCP login box connect control shows
a mouse-over message like open session on the last selected machine. I
am not sure of the English phrase because the 400MHz computer language
was updated to Gusty in Brazilian Portuguese and despite having changed
the current language to English (US) no matter what I do I cannot change
the welcome screen not the XDMCP login box to English (the 2600MHz
language is French). The PT-BR phrase is abrir uma seção na última
máquina selecionada.

I have no skills to investigate this further and so am adding this here
is case it can be of help to someone.

[Bug 157281] Re: no option to play audio attachment

2007-11-24 Thread Reece
Sure. The attached screenshot shows that I get only a Save As... option
in the pull down and that the play button is dimmed. I can see that evo
knows that this is audio from the play button musical notes icon, but
I don't know why it's dimmed. I've been running gnome for a long time
and it could be that I've inherited no defunct mimetype/mailcap entries.
Editing .gnome/application-info/user.applications and .mailcap didn't
seem to help, but I'm unsure that I've gotten those to take effect or
whether those files are even relevant.

I'll attach a sample email next.

I've since had it happen once without the restricted driver. I was
fooling with mixing other window managers and gnome panel.

I am convinced that the program is trying to redraw the screen for the
new or changed applet. At the same time it is getting ready to write the
new settings to a file. If a graphics error occurs it fails and neither
the old or the new settings are saved.

[Bug 164804] Re: Gnome Login Error

2007-11-24 Thread James Smith
Well I'm not quite sure what package it effects. But what I will do is
the next time this error occurs (which shouldn't be too long from now) I
will look over my system logs for any unusual error messages that may be
related to this. Any other suggestions on what I can do to track down
what package is causing this? It basically happens after I first log in,
around the time the GNOME splash screen would show if enabled. I think
it could be GDM or even gnome-panel or gnome-applets.

Not sure whether this is of any help to you. I encountered the same

[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)

2007-11-24 Thread Jens Ropers
I'm having the same problem.
Maybe this will clarify things a bit:

The problem is that in a Rhythmbox installation in Ubuntu 7.10, the GOOM
visualization plugin does not work -- when visualization is active and
GOOM is selected, Rhythmbox can even seize up and almost freeze.
Sometimes even the music stops playing for a while. This problem is
limited to the GOOM visualization and does not occur with the Monoscope
visualization, which works fine.

I actually had Rhythmbox uninstalled and reinstalled it via Add/Removs
Programs. I don't know if that is a factor (it may be). In any case,
even after uninstalling and reinstalling Rhythmbox, the included GOOM
default plugin should work and it does not.

2007-11-24 Thread jcran
similar problems here. -- fresh gutsy install, noticed that copying
files from various folders to the desktop was actually putting them into
.Trash.

i emptied the trash and restarted through gnome. now, gnome was treating
my home folder as ~/Desktop, and the desktop_as_home_dir option was not
set in the gconf XML file.

some fiddling around with the gconf setting and restarting several times
yielded nothing.

found this post and set the variable. this fixed the problem after a
full restart.

i had copied over my home folder from a fiesty install. perhaps this
caused the issue? -- though i don't remember these files in fiesty?
these are part of freedesktop?

thanks.

[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)

2007-11-24 Thread Jens Ropers
PPS: While GOOM now works, there still is a significant delay upon
activating a GOOM visalization. The music playback may even stop for a
while. This is on an Intel Celeron 2.8 GHz PC with 2 GB RAM, so this
probably should not happen.

[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)

2007-11-24 Thread Jens Ropers
Maybe if the issue with the GOOM visualization cannot be fixed, then a
good alternative would be to remove the GOOM entry from the Rhythmbox
visualization menu. libvisual-0.4-plugins might be a good alternative.
Upon installing this package (not installed by default), a number of
nice and well-working and responsive visualizations become available in
Rhythmbox.

[Bug 156060] Re: Rhythmbox not display graphics if click on visualization and select a GOOM (Intermitent bug)

2007-11-24 Thread Jens Ropers
PS: The OP mentioned Compitz. I don't think Compitz has anything to do
with it; for what it's worth, I have it disabled and I'm having the same
problem. I don't even think OpenGL is necessarily at fault -- OpenGL
works on my system, and I can use demanding OpenGL applications such as
Chromium B.S.U. I am using the mga graphics driver (Matrox Millennium
G450 DualHead graphics card), though I don't think the graphics drivers
are to blame either, it looks to me as if maybe GOOM is not installed
(correctly). I even manually installed the xmms-goom package in
Synaptic, but that didn't help either (I think Rhythmbox uses GStreamer,
but there isn't any other GOOM package in Synaptic).

UPDATE -- POSSIBLE FIX:
I just installed the gstreamer0.10-gl package, and this immediately fixed this
problem. It appears that the Rhythmbox should depend on gstreamer0.10-gl, but
it currently does not do so. Could this be changed?

[Bug 164921] Garbled display of some wmv videos under Xgl/Compiz

2007-11-24 Thread Johan Brannlund
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I run Totem 2.20.0-0ubuntu3 (the gstreamer version) under Xgl/Compiz on
my Gutsy AMD64 installation. Most videos work fine, but Totem does not
display some wmv videos properly when I run Xgl/Compiz. The same videos
display fine when I run Totem under a normal X Server. Also, mplayer
and xine can play the same videos normally, even when I run Xgl. I'm
attaching a screenshot showing Totem display a garbled video, along with
mplayer displaying the same video properly.

** Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
