[Bug 212029] Re: do not know how to transfer music files to microchip in usb port

2008-04-05 Thread Iulian Udrea
Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the
support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it
would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support
tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if
they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Thank you.

[Bug 212117] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties forces me to install fglrx for desktop effects, while they work fine with the free driver

2008-04-05 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have an ATI Mobility X700, which works fine (in both 2D and 3D mode)
with the free 'radeon' driver (I used it in gutsy, and it worked before
I did a reinstall). But for some reason, gnome-appearance-properties
wants to force me to install the non-free fglrx driver.

This is not desirable for several reasons: I'd like my machine to use as
much free software as possible, and fglrx tends to be a bit less stable
(in my experience).

So please, could you re-enable the desktop effects button(s) for my
video card _without_ it requiring fglrx?

Interestingly enough, I installed proftpd locally and it works fine.
First is the Ubuntu server, then the BSD one

I used the same daemon version for comparison purposes. No idea what the
difference in response is apart from the custom server name.

Still the Ubuntu one works, the BSD one does not.

This configuration for the debug log can be re-created
by putting the following in ~/nautilus-debug-log.conf
(use ';' to separate domain names):

Yester day i also enabled root account login in my system by editing a gdm.conf
file
'Allowroot=true'

Guys for some more info:
i can view other folders using $ nautilus foldername
but when i try to open even my directories inside my user folder the problem
repeats.

[Bug 212132] Re: i18n patch 104 is not correctly applied

2008-04-05 Thread Timo Jyrinki
The easiest way to fix the problem would simply be:
mv 104_cc-randr12-enable-i18n.patch 100_cc-randr12-enable-i18n.patch

That would apply the patch to 101 before 101 is applied, and the fix
would generally work. Notice though that this version of the patch only
reverts one of the strings to such that is already translated in gnome-
control-center, but if this is uploaded quickly enough translators will
have a short time to translate the few new strings.

No news at all on that forum. They didn't even read it.

Does somebody know _how_ to contact them?

Also, if you do get to speak to them, ask them to remove the useless data
from that xml-file.
Or provide a different xml file with just the artist-names, album-names,
track-names and track-ids.

Currently it contains html for artist pages and such. (they store
generated html in their database? daily-wtf worthy!). Also the generated
html isn't very clean, more like what front-page would do. 10 lines of
div style='margin: 7px' .. yuck yuck yuck.

There is also another api, besides the database dump, but it shouldn't
be used to fetch all data. (they have memory limitations). So, that's
out of the question.

I still can't believe they just broke it and never looked back, not even
notifying anyone, while all these nice developers making sure it works
with their players (amarok, rhythmbox) .. that's one way to destroy any
good-will.

[Bug 201493] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

2008-04-05 Thread Daniele Sapino
After this morning update (tried yesterday late in the evening and it
did not work, so it is this morning) there is some consistent
improvement:

-Plugging the HD it is recognized, mounted, and Nautilus manages to show
the contents without crashing.

-The partition name shown on the desktop icon is right but the address
bar says partitonname__ with two underscores (one more than before)
instead of just partitionname

-'ls /media/' returns the following:
cdrom cdrom0 ntfspatition ntfspartition_ ntfspartition__ ext3partition
ext3partition_ ext3partition__
where only the entries with the double underscore are actually accessible, the
ones with no underscore are shown as empty ('ls' does not return anything) and
the ones with one underscore only are 'access denied' (even as root).

Needless to say that there are just two partitions on the disk and they
are the ones without underscores.

[Bug 212017] [NEW] Evince/CUPS Could Not Print Tax Document

2008-04-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

 Ubuntu 7.10
Evince version that comes with Ubuntu 2.20.1

Today I came across this post in the Ubuntu forums:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4654080#post4654080

The poster could not print a tax document (Acrobat PDF) from the State
of Virginia tax website. I tried to print the same document and could
not. The document queued to my printer as stopped. I tried printing the
same document from Windows XP SP2; the document printed.

I went searching in another forum, and found this post. Apparantly, this
is a known problem and has been for years.

[Bug 212017] Re: Evince/CUPS Could Not Print Tax Document

2008-04-05 Thread Till Kamppeter
Moving to evince. evince is known to produce broken PostScript. There
are many other bug reports about bad quality, crashing PostScript
printer, ... The users who reported these bugs are all able to print
with other programs. Check at first whether you can print with programs
like OpenOffice.org, or Firefox. If this works, CUPS and your printer
driver are OK.

If you cannot print the PDF from Adobe Reader, too then you have
probably a broken PDF, report this to the State of Virginia tax
administration. Have you also tried to display and print the form with
KPDF, gv, XPDF, or simply tried to send it directly to CUPS?

crashed, and apport asked me to send a bug report.

I can' t reproduce this bug with running /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver
/gnome-screensaver-gl-helper from command-line. I don't know what that
program has to do, but when I run it I only get 0X21 on the standard
output.

Hi,

There's still a kdebase task open for this bug, so that
indicates it still needs fixing there.

There's no upstream bug report link for kdebase in

Thanks,

[Bug 209303] Re: totem-xine does not conflict with totem-gstreamer

2008-04-05 Thread dj3
I'm sorry, making totem-xine and totem-gstreamer installable together was
deliberate indeed.
If there is an option which library to use with Totem Movie Player, either
Gstreamer or Xine, then it's a really good idea.

But I couldn't figure out a way how to choose between totem-gstreamer
and totem-xine when both packages were installed together, so I
suspected a minor problem here. Not everybody will come up with the idea
to uninstall totem-gstreamer in order to use freshly installed totem-
xine, I think.
