Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. [Bug 212117] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties forces me to install fglrx for desktop effects, while they work fine with the free driver
Public bug reported: I have an ATI Mobility X700, which works fine (in both 2D and 3D mode) with the free 'radeon' driver (I used it in gutsy, and it worked before I did a reinstall). But for some reason, gnome-appearance-properties wants to force me to install the non-free fglrx driver. This is not desirable for several reasons: I'd like my machine to use as much free software as possible, and fglrx tends to be a bit less stable (in my experience). So please, could you re-enable the desktop effects button(s) for my video card _without_ it requiring fglrx? lspci-output for my video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X700 (PCIE) 01:00.0 0300: 1002:5653 (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: 103c:0940 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16 Region 0: Memory at c000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Region 1: I/O ports at 2000 [size=256] Region 2: Memory at c880 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] [virtual] Expansion ROM at c882 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1+ D2+ AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [58] Express Endpoint IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag+ Device: Latency L0s 256ns, L1 4us Device: AtnBtn- AtnInd- PwrInd- Device: Errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- Device: RlxdOrd+ ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop+ Device: MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes Link: Supported Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x16, ASPM L0s L1, Port 0 Link: Latency L0s 256ns, L1 2us Link: ASPM Disabled RCB 64 bytes CommClk+ ExtSynch- Link: Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x16 Capabilities: [80] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Address: Data: ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-appearance-properties forces me to install fglrx for desktop effects, while they work fine with the free driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212117 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 212132] Re: i18n patch 104 is not correctly applied
The easiest way to fix the problem would simply be: mv 104_cc-randr12-enable-i18n.patch 100_cc-randr12-enable-i18n.patch That would apply the patch to 101 before 101 is applied, and the fix would generally work. Notice though that this version of the patch only reverts one of the strings to such that is already translated in gnome- control-center, but if this is uploaded quickly enough translators will have a short time to translate the few new strings. -- i18n patch 104 is not correctly applied https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212132 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 212017] Re: Evince/CUPS Could Not Print Tax Document
Moving to evince. evince is known to produce broken PostScript. There are many other bug reports about bad quality, crashing PostScript printer, ... The users who reported these bugs are all able to print with other programs. Check at first whether you can print with programs like OpenOffice.org, or Firefox. If this works, CUPS and your printer driver are OK. If you cannot print the PDF from Adobe Reader, too then you have probably a broken PDF, report this to the State of Virginia tax administration. Have you also tried to display and print the form with KPDF, gv, XPDF, or simply tried to send it directly to CUPS? ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: cupsys = evince Target: None = ubuntu-8.04 -- Evince/CUPS Could Not Print Tax Document https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212017 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 209303] Re: totem-xine does not conflict with totem-gstreamer
I'm sorry, making totem-xine and totem-gstreamer installable together was deliberate indeed. If there is an option which library to use with Totem Movie Player, either Gstreamer or Xine, then it's a really good idea. But I couldn't figure out a way how to choose between totem-gstreamer and totem-xine when both packages were installed together, so I suspected a minor problem here. Not everybody will come up with the idea to uninstall totem-gstreamer in order to use freshly installed totem- xine, I think. -- totem-xine does not conflict with totem-gstreamer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
