[Bug 230608] [NEW] Not all icons Tango
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution There are still several icons that do not follow the Tango style, especially they don't have the Tango colors, although they have been already created by the Tango artists. This would be for example the Tasks and Memos icon. I hope this explains well what icons I'm talking about. It's been reported here, but I can't find the bug number (I should be in bed, it's 2am my time...), but the upstream bug for it is here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=530720 It should be rather high-priority that Ubuntu adopts either this patch or a similar one, and we really should push a version of it into 2.22 (one that doesn't add any UI elements or new strings). A little background: Honestly until 2 days ago it had been 6 years since I have used Linux, but I got SO SICK of Vista which came on my machine. This is the first bug so far that I have come in contact with while using Ububtu 8.0.4, which by the way is the best Linux release I have ever seen. Used to be a Redhat user. I am using Ubuntu on a Gateway MT6705 (~1 year old laptop) and it detected all hardware from the start. But yeah, it took me a minute but I found the trash folder. The trash folder has moved so many times. At one time it was in /usr, its been in /root i think, and now its hidden in the logged-in user's folder. Just open the Terminal and type: rm -rf /home/(username)/.local/share/Trash/files/ I found some files related to the problem in: .../Trash/info/ also, so I performed rm -rf on that folder also. It deletes the folders but the system creates them again as soon as you open the Trashcan. If nothing else, this can be considered a workaround until a patch comes out. File-Work offline File-Work online got a question on synchronize witch i did. Now both my clock/alarm/calendar and all of evolution behaves as it is supposed to. Dont know if this can lead to fixing the bug. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution After upgrading to Hardy Heron: Whenever I change folders in evolution, I get a message 'Storing folder (n% complete) This takes quite a while, and I have never seen it before, on older versions. Then I also get the bug mentioned elsewhere 'Error while Storing folder' but this only happens occasionally. It just seems abnormally slow, and makes the whole box slow, but eventually gets around to doing everything. I also get duplicates in my Inbox of everything prior to 'Yesterday' - apparently. When I close Evolution, it takes ages to close. When I re-open it, the duplicates are still there, showing as unread. What I don't understand at all is: importance = medium and urgency = low! So beeing not able to mount a DVD is of medium importance low urgency?! I think a user who tries Linux for the first time is not able to mount a DVD will turn his back on Linux and stays with the other system. I've just upgraded to hardy (8.04) and the default line still doesn't give correct vbr mp3s but the suggested line above still resolves the problem, even changing vbr-max-bitrate to 256 (from 192) gives to me VBR mp3s between 160-256 kbps (checked with nautilus, amarok, easy tag)! I continue to think that this line should be the default in soundjucer!! The actual default gstreamer line doesn't give correct vbr mp3s or at least correct tags of these mp3!! [Bug 230660] [NEW] EVolution constantly asked for password, deleted default keyring
Public bug reported: On Heron after a very recent upgrade, in last 7 days. Evolution was working fine and retrieving mail and sending mail.This started going wrong after an upgrade and it repeatedly asked for my password, an old one for ISP is stored elsewhere. I am guessing it is old password, one character longer stored ages ago (months, and months). Evolution was CONSTANTLY asking for password despite store password being set. I went into keyring and deleted the default password ring, leaving the login one and it all works correctly. My 'location' was login before deletion not default. This resolved the problem. Worse was that the send function was totally broken. It constantly retried sending with bad response I tracked with Camel on but did not store logs sorry. Password was constantly being sent and sent wrong. However, they're being sensitive flowers and are deleting comments from the bug report. Some were from Jay L. T. Cornwall willing to provide a patch he'd already prepared to revert this change. Olav deleted them; see my comment #46. Olav is insisting that reverting isn't an option and someone must write a new patch that provides a three-way option, Blink, Don't blink, Use system default. nossal: my hypothesis is that SQLite in trackerd is attempting to lock a file in NFS which fails and causes it to hang. However, it's clear from Ville's report and yours that perhaps other things may be at fault. Can you re-install the tracker packages, relogin (to restart all trackerd in a clean set up) and then run: $ lsof -p $(pidof trackerd) /tmp/trackerd.lsof $ strace -tt -T -o /tmp/trackerd.trace -p $(pidof trackerd) in one window while reproducing the problem with the python filechooser command? Then control-C the trackerd strace and attach /tmp/trackerd.lsof and /tmp/trackerd.trace to the bug report? I also get the error message(Failed to initialze HAL!) from a fresh install of Hardy 8.04. cat I moved /etc/rc2.d/24hal to /etc/rc2.d/26.d after reading the many trouble reports. I am now able to start hal manually with $ sudo /etc/init.d/dbus start All of the functionality, (network, etc) returns to the PC. But after DBus and HALD report OK, System-Admininstration-Services shows but all the services are grayed out and the unlock button is grayed out. If I attempt to start it using ~$ sudo services-admin, the Services Settings window appears but again all the services entries are grayed out and the unlock button is grayed out. Note that this is a new install of Hardy 8.04. I didn't follow the upgrade path noted in many of these reports. I have the same problem:
Printing of some PDF files to a PostScript printer is
very very very slow and produces a poor quality. It looks rasterised.
I did some tests with LaTeX producing the PDF file and found the
following: I can use the same LaTeX source only switching the
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc} line creating a working and a not working PDF
file. I tested it with the Print to file (PS) option in the printing
dialog, thus it seems not to be related to any specific printer. I
attached both PDF files and the LaTeX source. Both documents only have
one page without graphics. Thus it seems to be a problem related to the
font encoding. And some component switches in a rasterising mode.

[Bug 230749] [NEW] gnome-screensaver uses too much CPU
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver gnome-screensaver on my machine is configured to just blank the screen after 10 minutes. No animations, no pretty pictures, nothing. Yet, over an uptime of 20 days, the gnome-screensaver process shows 225 minutes of CPU time. For comparison, gnome-terminal has 623 minutes, Xorg has 729 minutes, xemacs has 6 minutes and eclipse has 51 minutes. Given that gnome-screensaver should be doing almost NOTHING, it seems very wrong to me that its CPU usage is so large. This is on Ubuntu 8.04, with gnome-screensaver 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 A very quick strace of the gnome-screensaver process shows that it does a fair amount of work every time I move the mouse. I've not tried an strace while the screen is blanked, so I can't say whether more CPU is used while blanked or not. If the CPU usage is simply because the process wakes up and does stuff every time my mouse moves by a pixel, perhaps the process should be a bit cleverer. e.g. it could sleep for 10 seconds after noticing the mouse move, before checking for further movements. That way it would still spot idle periods but wouldn't need to do lots of stuff for every little mouse twitch. I can confirm that this is a bug. When setting a compose key, such as Left Win key, the changes take effect and it works.
