[Bug 209145] Re: Evince couldnot display chinese pdf files
Same problem with kpdf 0.5.9 / poppler 0.6.4 in mixed pdfs. displays the english fine, but displays garbage for the chinese. System is a clean install of Kubuntu 8.04 xpdf works fine. kpdf 0.5.6 / poppler 0.5.4 on Kubuntu 7.04 worked fine. Am filing here as I assume the problem is also poppler, and so should not open a separate bug report. If I should open a separate bug report, let me know. If you want screenshots, let me know. If you want tea and biscuits, let me know. Have not tried poppler 0.8 - am not sure how. [Bug 36251] Re: Unreadable Font Size for GDM Login/Password
I'm using a different theme, happygnome-list, but I tried the equivalent of the fix suggested by Sun Wukong. My username and password entries are now a good, readable size, but to accomplish this I had to set the font size to 48! I believe that the original font size of 14 in the .xml file is reasonable, and that something other than the font size setting is causing this problem. In this theme, there are several other boxes where the font is unreadably small, and I found no way to increase their sizes. There are three boxes along the lower left side of the screen, which I think from looking at the xml code are options, session, and last language. They are almost legible, but not quite. In addition, there are two boxes below the username/password entry box, which I think are labeled OK and Cancel, again based on examining the xml code. Furthermore, the username list on the upper left part of the screen is also tiny. All the other text on the screen is readable size, things like the enter password prompt, the caps lock is on message and so forth. The items which are rendered unreadably small are those of type button, list, and entry. I could find nothing in the xml code that would affect the font size of the button or list items, and the one thing that could be affected required a ridiculously large font size value to be made readable. -- Unreadable Font Size for GDM Login/Password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have to eat my words and withdraw the comment above. After re-reading Pedro Villavicencio comments above, I re-checked what was installed and compared the 7.04 and 8.04 systems, and discovered poppler-data was not on the 8.04 system. [Bug 235427] Re: Crash detection dialog box is poorly worded
Well if the dialog is really necessary, I would suggest something like the following: Evolution appears to have exited unexpectedly the last time it was run. It is possible that the contents of one of your preview panes caused this. Would you like to hide the preview panes this time? You can restore the preview panes from the View menu. Then the buttons could be labelled Hide previews and Don't hide previews. I think this is much clearer, but it does seem like a bit of an unnecessary question. Ideally what would happen is that Evo would open as usual, but the preview pane would show a message saying something along the lines of This message is not being displayed because Evolution exited unexpectedly the last time it was shown. With a Click here to preview this message button. This would be much less obtrusive, and in many cases the email being previewed is not the cause of the problem. -- Crash detection dialog box is poorly worded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 124440] Re: gnome needs a way to manipulate scroll speed
There are multiple issues here that make the Wishlist importance a mistake, IMHO. If you read the link for more information in the bug description, you'll see that the problem isn't just adjusting wheel sensitivity... the very real problem is that many wireless mice (all MS Wireless?) report MULTIPLE EVENTS on each unit scroll if the system is ever booted into Windows. The mouse should only report two events (one press, one release), but instead reports multiple such. That makes it *impossible* to scroll only one unit in any application that does not have a scroll sensitivity *divisor*, which exactly ZERO applications do that I'm aware of. There are two possible solutions to this: - Implement proper sensitivity adjustment accessible in Gnome. or, better, - Figure out what the hell is going on with the mouse/transceiver and send commands to it to fix it. This is essentially a driver issue and should be handled as such (option 2). That doesn't exclude ALSO implementing option 1, but option 1 is properly set to Wishlist, whereas the real issue here is the faulty driver for oddly-behaving wireless mice. It *appears* that booting into Windows causes some sort of hardware level sensitivity to be changed, resulting in multiple events per unit scroll. The workaround is to unplug the transceiver (which appears to reset it to the sane 1 press + 1 release per unit scroll), but one cannot expect dual-booters to unplug their wireless transceiver every single time they boot into Windows. -- gnome needs a way to manipulate scroll speed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124440 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 228386] Re: Auto-launch applications multi-user
I've seen the same thing with the DVDs. It was really confusing because totem appeared to be having troubles with the DVD and when I closed it, I could still hear the DVD playing. [Bug 174212] Re: Cannot save file to FTP server (from Save dialog)
Same flow here in Hardy. 1. use nautilus to connect to ftp server. a. can drag files there b. can edit (gedit) files there etc. 2. Open openoffice to create a file and save from within the dialog box ie Save As--Point to the Folder/Mount in Nautilus and then all just freezes in OpenOffice come back 5 minutes later still frozen. This happens on both anonymous and user/password. The goal would be to let the end user save right to the ftp drive. I can do this by mounting the drive ahead of time via curlftp but of course Nautilus via Open Office would be best. Thanks ** Attachment added: This is the first step - OpenOffice -- Save As -- FTP in Nautilus http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14790852/step%20one%20save.jpg -- Cannot save file to FTP server (from Save dialog) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to meta-gnome2 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
