[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel
Tristan: yes, I set the computer's timezone also to Europe/Amsterdam. I got things working though. I use wicd on this computer in stead of networkmanager (problems with an atheros adapter in NM). I was using the wired connection, which was not the default connection. Because of this, after log in, there was no internet connection until I selected the wired interface. After changing the wired connection to default, the weather information shows up automatically after reboot. -- no weather information in gnome panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 73358] Re: dhcp -- static ip doesn't change when changing location
As i filed this bug in bugzilla, I also got this issue. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537924 Please describe the problem: When changing location, with location A set to static ip, location B to dhcp, it does not automatically retrieve a new ip address for location B. You need to manually run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to NM applet 2. Set current settings to static ip 3. press the save current configruation as a location, name it 'config A' 4. Set current settings to a dhcp ip 5. press the save current configruation as a location, name it 'config B' 6. select location 'config A' from the list 7. select 'apply configuration as current location' 8. press close 9. check that your ip is set to the static ip you've setup. This will be the case 10. Go to NM applet 11. Select 'config B' as a location 12. select 'apply configuration as current location' 13. click close Actual results: you'll see that your router does NOT automatically give you a new ip. The command sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart must be run Expected results: The program should automatically run the command 14. [Bug 239413] [NEW] Four steps of brightness changing after pressing a brightness key only once
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager As recommended by Andreas Wenning in Bug #207473, I'm opening a new bug report. Although there's several similar bugs already reported, I didn't find one I could really consider a duplicate. My laptop is Dell Vostro 1400 with a GeForce 8400M GS and I'm using Hardy. When I press one of the brightness controls keys (Fn + Up or Fn + Down), four steps of brightness changing happen instead of just one. There seems to be a consensus in Bug #207473 that the problem lies on both hal and the desktop manager software responsible for power management. They both try to adjust the brightness and they both do two steps instead of one. A fix for kde-guidance, which supposedbly reduces the number of steps to two (in other words, fixes the problem on kde side but not on the hal side, which is still being worked on) is already available in hardy-proposed. [Bug 239413] Re: Four steps of brightness changing after pressing a brightness key only once
Some other observations: 1) Executing /etc/acpi/video_brightnessdown.sh or /etc/acpi/video_brightnessup.sh changes the brightness just one step, but tweaking those scripts, or even deleting them, has no effect in the bug. It seems they are not called at all when the Fn keys are pressed, I don't know if this is expected behavior. 2) Blacklisting the video module fixes the four-step behavior, but causes other problems. A brightness change pop-up does not appear anymore, the brightness applet loses sync with the current brightness and trying to change brightness through the applet causes a two-second hanging for each step. 3) hal and gnome-power manager also seem to be conflicting in automatic brightness adjustment. A quick flicker when I unplug the ac cable indicates that the brightness was adjusted twice. -- Four steps of brightness changing after pressing a brightness key only once https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239413 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 239420] [NEW] eog initial size on triple head configuration

If the screen is e.g. 3840 x 1024, eog starts with 2880x2065+480+46 which is really annoying as one has to move and resize the window (not necessarily the shown image) a few times to completely fit into the visible screen. Ok. On current hardy, the problem seems to be even more about the gnome- settings-daemon's mouse plugin than keyboard plugin. Unsetting apps - gnome_settings_daemon - plugins - mouse - active gives me themed VNC session already, but it gnome-settings-daemon crashes often when doing anything with the end result of it being disabled quite soonish. Unsetting keyboard - active alone does not help at all, but unsetting also it in addition to mouse - active seems to give me a stable, themed VNC session. Tried http://gentoo-wiki.com/Talk:HOWTO_RealVNC,_TightVNC,_XF4VNC, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=122402page=43, and then some, but most information seems outddated. [Bug 220957] Re: Fails to see blank CD/DVDs for writing
Hm...Martin, this is a laptop. No cabling problems. I think I may have had a CD in there instead of a DVD; both were brand new, blank media. I can put in a DVD I've burned or a commercial movie, any CD I've put anything on or a mass-produced music CD - and all is fine. It's the new, blank media that won't work. Seems like a lot of time is spent in libjpeg, even though all images have already been loaded ! This gives a very poor user experience. Perhaps new thumbnails are being generated behind the scenes, even though it already displays the cached versions ? Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad Z61m, Intel Core Duo 2GHz, 2GiB RAM, ATI graphics with fglrx driver. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Nautilus slows to a crawl when opening a folder with images and zoom levels is 100% + Nautilus slows to a crawl when opening a folder with images and zoom level is 100% ** Description changed: Binary package hint: nautilus If I open a folder in Nautilus containing, say, 60 images and the zoom level is 150% or more (icon view), it immediately becomes slow, unresponsive and consumes 100% CPU for a long time *after* all the images are displayed. It does not matter if thumbnails need to be generated or not (i.e. if they are pre-cached or not). Nautilus does not crash, scrolling is possible, but is extremely jerky and quite unusable. If I leave it for a while, or leave the folder entirely, CPU consumption goes back to normal, and everything seems fine. When the zoom-level is 100% or less, the problem does not occur.
