[Bug 240116] [NEW] Default File Naming in nautilus

2008-06-15 Thread Sriram
Public bug reported:

On installing templates in the ~/Templates directory, if two new files of a
template are to be created in the same directory, naming is currently done as:
New template.abc
New template.abc 1
It should instead have been:
New template.abc
New template 1.abc
because the former creates wrong file extension and certain image
templates, for eg. xcf[gimp files] format finds it as an error while opening it.

[Bug 221900] Re: After logging in by thinkfinger, I have to give nm-applet access to keyring by typing in password

2008-06-15 Thread JesperDJ
LaTrell: I'm not using ThinkFinger because it's useless if I still have
to type in my password for different programs. I haven't found any
really good workarounds to make it work with all programs that need the
password to be typed in. There are unfortunately some things missing in
Ubuntu to integrate the use of the fingerprint reader fully into the
system.

You can uninstall the packages that you've installed the same way you
uninstall any other software package (with Synaptic or sudo apt-get
remove ...).

[Bug 240128] [NEW] gedit failed to open at first mouse-click

2008-06-15 Thread syscon-hh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

system: intrepid ibex kernel 2.6.24-16
cpu: i386
gedit_2.23.1-0ubuntu1
gedit-common_2.23.1-0ubuntu1
nautilus_1:2.23.3-0ubuntu1
nautilus-data_1:2.23.3-0ubuntu1

After upgrade gedit (2.22.3-0ubuntu1) to 2.23.1-0ubuntu1 and gedit-
common (2.22.3-0ubuntu1) to 2.23.1-0ubuntu1 the following happens:

If I select an textfile to be displayed in gedit (my editor set
preferences inside nautilus gedit) every first call gedit will not
start - it will be displayed in the statusline shortly and deleted short
time later (half sec. up to one sec.).

Inside the folder /var/log/ - 'syslog' as well as 'kern.log' the
lines shown in attachment are added - no more or less!

If I call e.g. 'file.txt' second time shortly again, then gedit opens
and work still fine.

After closing gedit and selecting inside the same folder another file -
all works OK.

Selecting another file in a different folder, the malfunction is
reproduceable and a new line will be added to the log-files.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-06-15 Thread Renzo Bagnati
Steve, as described in comment 12, I'm using kerberos authentication
inside an ADS network and I have no problems with nautilus and gvfs.
However my setup is different from yours. The smb.conf is like this:

[global]
workgroup = LAB
realm = MYDOMAIN.COM
netbios name = %h-DEB
server string = %h-DEB (Samba %v, Ubuntu)
security = ADS
password server = dhcpias1.mydomain.com
restrict anonymous = 2
client NTLMv2 auth = Yes
client lanman auth = No
client plaintext auth = No
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
os level = 0
preferred master = No
local master = No
domain master = No
idmap domains = LAB
idmap config LAB: default = yes
idmap config LAB: backend = rid
idmap config LAB: range = 10-100
template shell = /bin/bash
winbind separator = _
winbind enum users = Yes
winbind enum groups = Yes
winbind use default domain = Yes
winbind refresh tickets = Yes
winbind offline logon = Yes
invalid users = root
[Share]
   comment = %h-DEB_Share
   path = /home/LAB/adsusername/Share
   valid users = LAB_adsusername, @LAB_domain users, @users
   force user = LAB_adsusername
   read only = No

The PAM configuration has been changed by using this line in /etc/pam.d
/common-auth:

auth sufficient pam_winbind.so krb5_auth krb5_ccache_type=FILE
cached_login

This means that the login user is a domain user (not a local user) and that it
automatically acquires a kerberos ticket.
With this setup I'm able to browse with nautilus all network shares (including
the one of the local workstation) even without the gvfs patch from darkrain42.
So it seems that in my case gvfs is correctly using kerberos credentials and I
wonder if your problem may be related to something else than the gvfs patch.
If necessary, I can post the complete configuration of my workstation, but at
the moment I will not be able to do other test inside the ADS network until
next week.

http://ppa.launchpad.net/gbordiga/ubuntu hardy main to sources.list and
update/grade.

The same patch is also found in Fedora 10 (rawhide) nautilus package.

Will ever the maintainer apply the patch to official ubuntu package?

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-15 Thread Tien Nguyen
Rudolf,

Thanks for your clarification. In my previous post
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520/comments/69
the option security = user only refer to the Samba server setting. I
have positive proof that this option on the server indeed fix the
authentication problem for Hardy Samba client. Any other symtomps are
separate issues and it makes this bug more confusing and hard to track.

So if the developer can focus on this authentication issue, he/she may
be able to fix (at least) one problem.

Cheers,

[Bug 122213] Re: Installing a gdm theme changes Selected Only to Random from Selected

2008-06-15 Thread sschull
As much as I hate to reopen a ticket, this is still an issue; I can't
believe anyone else hasn't brought it up. I have ran into this problem
on a slew of different hardware setups since Feisty and including Hardy.
Steps to reproduce are exactly how jclemon describes. This may be an
upstream bug in gdmsetup, however I've only noticed it under Ubuntu. If
any other information is needed please ask.

[Bug 159811] [NEW] gnome-session and startkde fail after upgrade to 7.10 (due to /bin/dash)

2008-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 (x86) to Ubuntu 7.10, gnome-session and
startkde fail to start (.xsession-errors states that the start failed,
but gives no further indication on why they do so) and only a xterminal
and no window manager is started after log-in to the GUI.

There were already bugs reported regarding this, but none of the
comments turned out to be of much help. A colleague of mine guessed
right in that the change of the system (bourne) shell to dash caused
gnome-session and startkde to fail. Indeed after linking /bin/bash to
/bin/sh, startkde works just fine again (I haven't tried gnome-session
yet).

[Bug 206583] Re: System Monitor crashes when changing nice value of process

2008-06-15 Thread TOhms
This can be confirmed.
As I tried to check this I have noticed a strange workaround:

- Go to a directory of your choice (I prefer /usr/src) and run: apt-get source
gnome-system-monitor
- Next run: sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-system-monitor
- Go into the created directory usually called gnome-system-monitor-2.22.0
(if you got an older version you are not up to date!)
- Run the following commands: ./configure --prefix=/usr make make install

This should do the trick! Now you can run gnome-system-monitor and if
you try to change a forbidden process you'll be informed about it and
gsm keeps running.

Actually I have done this to fix the bug, but in a compiled version it
doesn't seem to happen. Maybe anyone got an idea of what is going on
here - I don't.

Cheers,
Thomas

[Bug 240181] [NEW] Moving files and directories from W98 to Hardy

2008-06-15 Thread alfred3x
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to move a group of files and directories from Windows 98 to
Hardy Heron, Nautilus throws an error File doesn't exist. I suspected
this may be because it needed root level access, and researched doing
the sudo thing for Nautilus, but that didn't do it. I finally zipped
the W98 files and moved them as one (it doesn't have problems with 1
file at a time, or a group of files. It's the directories it gaks on.),
and unzipped them on the Hardy end.

I started by installing 7.01, and went through the upgrade process to
8.04 when it appeared in the upper right corner. A friend suggested
reinstalling ntfs-3g pkg, but that didn't help.

Thanks for your hard work guys!

[Bug 240187] [NEW] Focus conflict blocks all input

2008-06-15 Thread A. Bram Neijt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

There is a situation where a focus conflict seems to arise. When this
happens, I can't change anything or enter the required password. The
only thing that is possible is moving to another terminal and killing
the keyring applicaiton.

Steps to reproduce the bug (this is how I got it, but other methods are
probably possible):
1) Turn of you wireless AP (for which the password will be retrieved from the
keyring)
2) Make sure your keyring is closed (e.g. reboot)
3) Click on the network manager to see a list of wireless APs, keep this menu
open by not selecting any of them.
4) Turn on your wireless AP, this will make the network manager discover the AP
and ask for the keyring password
5) When the keyring password entry dialog appears, try to access it.

What happens:
When the last step is executed, the dialog is not accessible, not in focus and
none of the windows respond. The network manager has focus for it's sub-menu
and won't let go (because it is blocked, probably for the password) and the
keyring dialog can't seem to get the focus in any way.
At this point, none of the X things seems to work. I tried: Alt-tab, clicking,
clicking on window list, using enter, using space, typing in something, Alt-F2
to be able to execute something. None of those work.

The solution that worked was opening another terminal and killing gnome-
keyring and then switching back. Although this bug is raised with the
network-manager, I think it's possible to find other programs affected
by this. Therefore I think it might be a problem that needs to be solved
at the gnome-keyring level.

Kernel 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux
gnome-keyring Version: 2.22.2-0ubuntu1
network-manager Version: 0.6.6-0ubuntu5
Ubuntu Hardy

[Bug 240146] [NEW] Login screen text

2008-06-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04 on a Compaq, and the login screen
seems to be using this giant (like 72 point font or greater) to type the
letters/numbers for the user name and the bullets for the password. It
works, but you can't see anything you type. It's like you're looking
through a mail-slot on your front door trying to read letters that
measure 3 feet tall each.

FIX IS BELOW

FYI. The fix of disabling and enabling desktop effects worked for me. I
have an Intel Integrated graphics card.

Steps to Fix:
1. Click SystemPreferencesAppearance
2. Click Visual Effects tab
3. Select the None radio button
You should see everything return to normal at this point
4. Select the radio button for either of the visual effect settings at this
point (if you choose)
Everything should look ok after a few seconds of the system enabling the effects

UPDATE
This only fixed the problem until I restarted, at which point it returned. I
have managed to fix it permanently however. This is what I did:
1. sudo gedit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
2. find the section [server-Standard] in that file
3. You should see a line that says -command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0. Change
it to read -command=/usr/bin/X -br -audit 0 -dpi 96.
4. Save, quit, and restart

You should be good to go now.

Cheers

[Bug 223164] Re: Gnome freezes with drag / drop to 2 different windows

2008-06-15 Thread mbrennwa
After reporting that this bug also occurs on my machine (2008-06-04) I
deactivated the Desktop Effects, which prevented the crashes in my case.
Just out of curiosity I re-activated the Desktop Effects again today,
and guess what: the problem did not occur any more! I'm not saying the
bug is fixed for sure, but some of the recent updates I got through the
automatic updater seem to have done something good, at least on my
machine.

Crashed using the 0801.4602 file in the description in Hardy (with -proposed
repo enabled).
Apport can not analyze the .crash file on my computer (not enough free memory).
Attached here is the file, only 36 KB in size.

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2008-06-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Renzo,

You're right; if I use the unmodified gvfs-backends package from hardy-
updates, then I don't see this problem with AD authentication - it's
only introduced when I apply Paul's patch.

I do have an updated version of that patch which restores correct
behavior in AD environments.

The only question that remains is, what should the correct behavior be
in the absence of kerberos credentials (prompting for username/password,
vs. automatically connecting anonymously), given that we don't really
want to be architecting a completely new UI in an SRU? You have argued
that a username/password prompt should be presented. I'm inclined to
agree.

BTW, the reason on the server side that the shares are not displayed at
all when connecting to your samba server is that you're using the
'restrict anonymous = 2' option. I don't know why that's part of the
Ubuntu AD howto; it's not required for AD integration, its only effect
is to prevent one from retrieving a list of shares anonymously. As a
workaround, you could remove this option on your samba servers, and the
corresponding (and non-default) registry setting on your Windows
servers, if you're comfortable with share lists being retrievable
without authentication.

In any case this would still be a problem for user home autoshares, so
I've attached the patch to gvfs 0.2.4 which implements this fallback
sequence (kerberos - u/p - anonymous).

Sebastien, since I'm not seeing the issues in the current patch, it
would be helpful to have a concrete reference to the problems that
upstream finds with it so that we can get those resolved.
