[Bug 44067] Re: Sessions preferences help outdated

2008-08-03 Thread Charles Atkinson
This bug is still present in Hardy.

A little more information from
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351086#c2

=== excerpt begins ===
Here's the relevant part in the code:

GnomeUIInfo state_data[] = {
  GNOMEUIINFO_ITEM_STOCK(N_(Inactive),
N_(Waiting to start or already finished.),
 NULL, GNOME_STOCK_MENU_BLANK),
  GNOMEUIINFO_ITEM_STOCK(N_(Starting),
N_(Started but has not yet reported state.),
 NULL, GNOME_STOCK_MENU_TIMER),
  GNOMEUIINFO_ITEM_STOCK(N_(Running),
N_(A normal member of the session.),
 NULL, GNOME_STOCK_MENU_EXEC),
  GNOMEUIINFO_ITEM_STOCK(N_(Saving),
 N_(Saving session details.),
 NULL, GNOME_STOCK_MENU_SAVE),
  GNOMEUIINFO_ITEM_STOCK(N_(Unknown),
 N_(State not reported within timeout.),
 NULL, GNOME_STOCK_PIXMAP_HELP),
  GNOMEUIINFO_END
};

Second string is an explanation of the state and the fourth field is the icon
used.

Most apps are in the running state (with the exec icon).

[Bug 254355] [NEW] nautilus will not change to default directory for sftp session

2008-08-03 Thread Xepra
Public bug reported:

When connecting to a sftp server Nautilus displays the root /
directory rather than the default home directory /home/user (or
whatever the server is set to). This occurs across multiple sftp
servers and multiple users.

Other clients, such as the built in cli sftp client, do not have this
problem. Thus I believe it is a problem with Nautilus.

[Bug 28429] Re: created .hidden folders/files stays visible after being moved/deleted

2008-08-03 Thread PaulSchulz
I can confirm in Hardy...

1) Create 'untitled file' on desktop with nautilus.
2) Rename to '.test'

After a short delay.. 'untitled file' is now called '.test', and appears
in the directory listing in nautilus, and on the desktop (as '.test').

3) Toggling the 'show hidden' option (show hidden/hide hidden), removes
'.test' from the folder list in nautilus, but it is still displayed on
the desktop.

the ubuntu team is small and doesn't write the software which are

[Bug 50534] Re: Disk mount applet can not mount a luks encrypted partition

2008-08-03 Thread csoler
It's not really an issue anymore:

- nautilus does not display anything about this encrypted partition (There's
nothing in /etc/fstab, maybe that's the reason)
- to mount it, I use pmount /dev/sda8, which works fine on condition to add
/dev/sda8 in /etc/pmount.allow

Si I've created a launcher to call this properly. Of course this would
be nicer if nautilus was able to handle it properly.

[Bug 254311] Re: Nautilus segfault in libgio-2.0 when double click on home folder icon

2008-08-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 209855] [NEW] Multi-line tooltips look like menus

2008-08-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Hardy, some items on the bottom panel have tooltips which have more
than one line and which look like menus. These are (1) the tootip for
the Show Desktop icon, and (2) the tooltip for the workspace switcher
applet.

In both cases, because they look like menus, the user (or at least, this
user) is tempted to click the items. Eg, for the case of the workspace
switcher tooltip, I try to click on Go to left workspace. This fails
of course, as the tooltip just fades away. I don't have a suggestion of
how to fix this for the workspace switcher. For the Show Desktop
tooltip, I think a simpler tooltip would suffice, with just the words
Minimize visible windows (and without the icon).

[Bug 181091] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crashes periodically after installing ubuntu-studio-audio

2008-08-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After installing the metapackage ubuntu-studio-audio, a couple of days
ago, the gnome-settings daemon periodically fails to launch at startup.

The only drastic change pulled by ubuntu-studio-audio is the linux-rt
kernel ---after installing ubuntu-studio-audio and switching kernels,
the x-server crashed during its first boot; it seemed that the problem
was TiMidity++, so after uninstalling linux-rt, reinstalling TiMidity
and reinstalling linux-rt, I could boot successfully, although the
gnome-settings-daemon failed to start... and today it's the fourth time
it fails.

[Bug 218529] [NEW] Gstrreamer problem

2008-08-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hey!
I've got a sound issue I hope you guys could help me with. Basically the
problem is with gstreamer and I can't hear any sound in some applications.
Systeme sounds are ok (when I test it in the preferences menu) and applications
like VLC works properly. Others though, doesn't work, probably because
depending of Gstreamer.

I don't have sounds for Pidgin and when running through the terminal and
trying to run the sound test in ToolsPreferencesSound, i get following
error message in the console:

(pidgin:6470): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_bin_add: assertion
`GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed

(pidgin:6470): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_link_pads: assertion
`GST_IS_ELEMENT (dest)' failed

(pidgin:6470): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_link_pads: assertion
`GST_IS_ELEMENT (src)' failed

Doing the same for rhytmbox i get:

(rhythmbox:6740): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

(rhythmbox:6740): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_bin_add: assertion
`GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed

(rhythmbox:6740): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_link_pads:
assertion `GST_IS_ELEMENT (dest)' failed

(rhythmbox:6740): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_link_pads:
assertion `GST_IS_ELEMENT (src)' failed

(rhythmbox:6740): RhythmDB-CRITICAL **: rhythmdb_entry_get_string: assertion
`entry != NULL' failed

Now it seems that a lot of applications depends of gstreamer, like
ubuntu-desktop, so I think its not a good idea to remove it directly but i'm
not so experienced..
I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy btw.

It may be a possible workaround for some at the moment. (I saw in a
previous comment Andy had tried this unsuccessfully, but I'd like to
get feedback from others as well) If you can also comment on the
version of the kernel you are running that would be great too. You
can get this by doing 'cat /proc/version_signature'

Ubuntu 2.6.24-19.36-generic

Next, I'd like to know if anyone has had the chance to confirm this
is still an issue with the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release.
We'll want to make sure we have this fix resolved in the upcoming
release first and then backport any necessary patches to Hardy if
possible. You can get the latest Alpha release of Intrepid (Alpha 3
at the time of this posting) from http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . It
would be great if someone would be willing to test. If the issue
still exists under Intrepid please attach an updated full dmesg
output after you've inserted a blank CD.

Do I need to run the second kernel in a VirtualBox VM? I have experience
building from Ibex source package in prevu for applications, and running
them, but never building a new kernel, let alone run it. If given a link
on how to do it, I am willing to try, because I want to see the back of
this bug.

Many thanks for your attention.

Chandra

[Bug 35223] Re: Laptop TFT monitor - brightness level is not saved

2008-08-03 Thread growingneeds
I managed to fine-tune the LCD brightness to a greater degree by adding the
'Brightness Applet' to the Gnome Panel.
1.Right-click a specified location on the Gnome Panel and select 'Add to
Panel...'
2.Select 'Brightness Applet'.

To achieve 7 adjustable levels of brightness on the function keys (instead of
the usual 3), and to keep the LCD brightness from being set at the maximum
after every reboot:
1.In a terminal, type “gksudo gedit”.
2.Open the file “/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist”.
3.Add a new line “blacklist video”.
4.Reduce brightness to mimimum (or desired level).
5.Reboot.

no. you can test it yourself

unless I set it up wrong, I modified my .asoundrc by adding

I can't select it via gnome, but it is (manually, its not enumerated)

So it's the actual presence of METACITY_DEBUG that seems to be causing

enough by METACITY_DEBUG that the problem didn't show up.

Let's hope the latest log you posted has enough information to solve the

[Bug 188790] Re: Can't browse sftp

2008-08-03 Thread tvst
I have this problem with GVFS 0.2.5-0ubuntu2 in both gvfs-mount and
Nautilus. It seems to be due to an offending RSA key, as shown below:

When I logged in through the terminal with SSH, I got the following
message:

Warning: the RSA host key for 'X' differs from the key for the IP
address 'X'
Offending key for IP in /home/X/.ssh/known_hosts:8
Matching host key in /home/X/.ssh/known_hosts:25
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
(everything went fine after this)

To make GVFS work all I had to do was delete line 8 in my known_hosts
file.

In this situation, Nautilus/gvfs-mount should pop-up/print-out a message
to the user, similar to what SSH does.

Changing back to *Fix released*

A fix was released upstream 4 days ago. I haven't tested it yet, though.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545445

I believe the other fix mentioned by Oliver Gerlich
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/188790/comments/7)
only applies to connecting to the server for the first time. That is,
it just shows a Add fingerprint to database?-type dialog. That's why
it doesn't solve the offending key issues.

[Bug 193010] Re: slow Eye of GNOME start

2008-08-03 Thread tsingi
I'm not sure why this bug has been assigned low importance. I am
experiencing serious lag times on a large file server with lots of media
to the point that I am about to investigate options other than eog,
which I now consider functionally unusable.

[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't

2008-08-03 Thread Sander van der Veeke
I can confirm this bug:
with
Ubuntu Hardy
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-19-generic
GNOME 2.22.3

Latest updates installed

Problem:
Trash can on desktop appears empty (by Icon), activating window shows files but
the empty button is greyed out
Trash can as applet shows FULL! (by icon), but activating window shows empty
button greyed out, files visable

right click on file(s) shows option to delete files permanent, this
works

see screenshot (system language is Dutch)

[Bug 150373] Re: creating a 7zip gives error in Gutsy Beta

2008-08-03 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Confirmed for Ubuntu 8.04.1 32-Bit, and as for Sebastien Bacher, I
consider your answer pretty arrogant.

Generally I would say, If an implemented feature does not work, leave it
out until it works, but do no not put it into a so-called long term
support version - unless you wish to say that long term support means
you will need support for a long term.

Please give us a precise reasoning why you think this a small issue
which deserves low priority only - something with an understandable
reason beyond your personal opinion.
