[Bug 282041] [NEW] Logout/Shut down windows not on top

2008-10-12 Thread jbond00747
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When I select the Shut Down... or Log Out username... the window
that pops up is frequently hidden behind other windows. I would expect
it to appear on top of other windows.

System Information

I am running 8.10 beta. It has been updated within the last day, so it should
be reasonably up to date.

$ dpkg -l gnome-power-manager

[Bug 255008] Re: Up arrow key mapped to Print [screen]

2008-10-12 Thread aiyeou
None of these fixes worked for me on Intrepid beta. I tried both Dell
wired USB and Kensington MAC KBD.

Here are relevant inputs: setxkbmap -print
xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include evdev+aliases(qwerty) };
xkb_types { include complete  };
xkb_compat{ include complete  };
xkb_symbols   { include pc+us(mac)+inet(evdev)};
xkb_geometry  { include pc(pc104) };
};

and xorg.conf

Section InputDevice
# generated from default
Identifier Keyboard0
Driver kbd
EndSection

The problem started after an update today, is also described here
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3097316.0

Thanks for your kind feedback.

Re: [Bug 265043] Re: Evolution doesn't refresh the INBOX folder

2008-10-12 Thread Bruno Santos
On Sun, 2008-10-12 at 00:27 +, Darik Horn wrote:
Per the duplicate ticket, this was the fix for me:

 1. Click Folder - Subscriptions.
 2. Choose the IMAP account from the Server pulldown menu.
 3. Uncheck the Inbox folder.
 4. Click the Close button.
 5. Restart Evolution.

The Inbox folder will be automatically resubscribed and correctly
 resummarized.

The new package worked here, but I had already done what Darik suggested
in this message before, so current users with the problem could need to
follow this steps to get the Inbox to update correctly.

Thanks for fixing this bug! :-D

On an offtopic note, I have to say that I notice Evolution faster
dealing with IMAP accounts, I'm pleased with the new version. If only
the progress dialog worked as supposed (it's either 0% or 100%)… It
would be preferable to have an activity indicator like the browsers use,
in the top right corner, informing that it is receiving/sending messages
and drop the dialog.

Cheers

Re: [Bug 279059] Re: Evolution crashes connecting to an IMAP server which is temporarily unreachable

2008-10-12 Thread Claudio Satriano
Unfortunately, I'm not able to reproduce this anymore.

It happened when the mail server went offline and I got a no route
to host message.

Trying to reproduce this, putting my network connection down, I get
an unknown host message, since Evolution is unable to resolve the
dns name.

I edited therefore the mail account, entering the IP address of the
IMAP server in lieu of the dns name, so that I get again the no
route to host message.

However this was seen as a new server and Evolution rebuilt
completely the mail database (creating a new mail folder:
~/.evolution/mail/imap/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ).

The original mail database was converted to sqlite the first time I
started Evolution 2.24, while the new one is from scratch in sqlite
format.

Since the bug no ever occurs, I guess that rebuilding the mail
database fixed the problem.

[Bug 282095] [NEW] No spell suggestions in Greek language

2008-10-12 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Both in Hardy and Intrepid beta, while writing emails in Greek language,
misspelled words are underlined with a wavy red line, but if I right
click on them there isn't a spelling suggestion menu (should read
Greek).

I do have spell suggestions in English language. There is a right click
English menu.
I do have spell suggestions in Greek language in *other* gnome applications
like gedit.

Also, F7 doesn't check for spelling errors in Greek language.

So I think it's a bug specific to evolution (or gtkhtml - can I check
some other application to see if it affects other gtkhtml-based apps?).

Right now the version of evolution I have is 2.24.0-0ubuntu2.

Kind regards,
Alkis Georgopoulos

On the other system I have three users, let's call them A, B and C. A was
created during install, and is member of sudoers (and as such is comparable to
the only user on the first system). Here I am using the same backup script, and
here I always get permission denied errors accessing /home/A/.gvfs.
I do NOT get errors when the script tries to access /home/B/.gvfs or
/home/C/.gvfs!
In fact, user A can do a sudo -i, and then cd to /home/B/.gvfs, but not cd to
his own /home/A/.gvfs.

So it looks like there IS a bug somewhere, and it would be nice to see
it fixed.

[Bug 10713] Re: Broken context-sensitive spell check in Evolution (Greek, Hebrew)

2008-10-12 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Confirming for Intrepid - evolution 2.24.0-0ubuntu2.

I don't think it's an aspell problem, because gedit and the rest apps that use
it work without problems.
Evgeny, now that your Russian spelling is broken, does it work in gedit?

What other gtkhtml apps are there, to test them and see if all gtkhtml
apps are affected?

Kind regards,

[Bug 282164] [NEW] Can't open a binary file

2008-10-12 Thread Pasi Savolainen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

gedit does not allow to open binary files (even selecting iso8859-1
encoding fails, probably because of '0'/NULL characters).

An option to show it as read-only (possibly with 'hd/bsdmainutils'
transform) should be offered.

Reasoning: dropping down to terminal while working through a HD full of
old files is not nice. And refusing to show file contents just because
some of the bytes are a bit funky is not nice either.

Re: [Bug 225361] Re: Superuser cannot access ~/.gvfs folder when mounted

2008-10-12 Thread Ralph Corderoy

In my opinion, this doesn't reall give enough information to confirm
that the behaviour isn't down to user error. For example, on the second
machine the cut-and-pasted output of

for u in A B C; do ls -ld /home/$u{,/.gvfs}; df /home/$u/.gvfs; id
$u; done

would be useful.

[Bug 282165] Re: Can't connect Canon Ixus 50

2008-10-12 Thread bash
Did a test with a different camera. It's a Panasonic (Lumix) DMC-FX3.
Here I also receive a similar bug. If I plug it in I receive the
following error:

Error initialising the camera: 53: Could not claim camera

The strange thing is, if I just click ok there and wait for about 3
minutes suddenly the normal Camera detect - What do you want to do
dialog pops up, I can select F-Spot from there, it opens and start
loading the pictures. But there it takes forever, loading pictures
unbelievably slow. 20 ~ 30 secs per picture. If I cancel that Camera
detected dialog though and just use f-spot-import I again just receive
the libghoto2 error Could not claim USB device that I posted in the
bug report.

[Bug 281827] Re: Gimp save dialog does not automatically stretch

2008-10-12 Thread Ronan Jouchet
Hello,

Your video actually reveal two bugs:
1. the one you describe
2. weird behaviour when reducing the vertical size of the save dialog causing
widgets disappear (because of minimum vertical size not set or something like
this)

My thoughts:
1. I think that's a wanted behaviour to minimize screen usage (think eeepc,
netbooks with small screens, etc). If the user wants more options, let him
expand, by by default don't clutter the screen.
2. Couldn't reproduce, so I suppose it has been fixed in 2.6.1 which is in
intrepid now. Can you confirm?

[Bug 219306] [NEW] cdrom does not mount at /media/cdrom0

2008-10-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

ubuntu hardy x86_64, up-to-date
whenever I mount I put a cd or dvd into my optical drive, it mounts the drive
under /media/disctitle (where disctitle is e.g. ETQWDVD in case of the Enemy
Territory Quake Wars DVD) This happens with every media I put in my optical
drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B)
No cd ever got mounted at /media/cdrom0 wher it is supposed to be.
I have an identical PC lying around, except another drive. There it gets
mounted as supposed to /media/cdrom0 (the only second difference is, that these
2 PCs have, is that *malfunctioning* PC's IDE master is the cd/dvd -drive and
the other PC has another harddisk as master and it's cd drive as slave).
I did a fresh install 3 times just in case it was caused by a corrupted
filesystem or whatever.

[Bug 282199] [NEW] New logout/shut down dialogs not showing after upgrade from Hardy

2008-10-12 Thread Hernando Torque
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In Hardy I was using the compact upstream dialogs for shut down and logout:
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/1803/bildschirmfotognomepanekk5.png

I enabled them by creating the gconf key upstream_session in
apps/panel/global and setting it to true.

After upgrading to Intrepid this key has gone and there is no schema
either (so recreating it won't change a thing) but the old dialogs are
still showing.

Using a Live-CD fixes the problem so maybe it's an upgrade related bug.

Right package maybe gnome-session, didn't know.

[Bug 272587] Re: Resuming from Suspend cause power button action to be called

2008-10-12 Thread PhilT
I've done some more digging and found what I think could be the reason
I'm seeing this behavior.

I did an lshal -m then closed the lid waited a minute and opened it
again. This is what came back:

14:56:06.058: computer property power_management.is_powersave_set = true
14:56:11.080: computer_logicaldev_input_2 property button.state.value = true
14:56:11.081: computer_logicaldev_input_2 condition ButtonPressed = lid
*** I OPENED THE LID ***
14:57:23.281: computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0 property
battery.remaining_time = 19027 (0x4a53) (new)
14:57:23.284: computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0 property
battery.charge_level.rate = 6149 (0x1805)
14:57:23.285: computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0 property
battery.reporting.rate = 6149 (0x1805)
14:57:23.285: computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0 property
battery.voltage.current = 12444 (0x309c)
14:57:23.286: computer_logicaldev_input_1 condition ButtonPressed = power
14:57:23.286: computer_logicaldev_input_2 property button.state.value = false
14:57:23.286: computer_logicaldev_input_2 condition ButtonPressed = lid
14:57:23.423: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_video4linux removed
14:57:23.424: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_logicaldev_input removed
14:57:23.466: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_video4linux added
14:57:23.737: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_logicaldev_input added

Here is another output from lshal this time I selected Suspend from the
UserSwitcher menu. To resume I just pressed the spacebar. Here is what
came back:

** I PRESSED THE SPACEBAR
15:27:22.200: computer_power_supply_battery_BAT0 property
battery.voltage.current = 12522 (0x30ea)
15:27:22.227: computer_logicaldev_input_1 condition ButtonPressed = power
15:27:22.227: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_video4linux removed
15:27:22.227: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_logicaldev_input removed
15:27:22.271: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_video4linux added
15:27:22.002: usb_device_4f2_b036_SN0001_if0_logicaldev_input added

So I guess the question is: should there be a power button event when
resuming? Is there a way I can ignore this event?

[Bug 282224] [NEW] Sound recorder does not record stream - hardy

2008-10-12 Thread N T Alexander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I spent hours and hours going through forums and trying all kinds of
settings to make default Gnome Sound Recorder to work. All other sound
features are working great. This bug is extremely frustrating to me
because I have to return to Windows to record audio - as soon as this
bug is fixed I can format my windows xp hard drive.

Steps to recreate the problem:
1. start playing an audio track or internet stream - same results with both
2. open sound recorder.
3. click the record button.
4. stop audio track.
5. stop recording.
6. play recording. I am expecting to hear the audio track - instead I am
hearing a hiss.

Next steps:
7. open alsamixer and turn everything up, turn on all capture.
8. repeat - still no recording - it is capturing a hiss only.

more steps.
9. retry steps 1-6 recording in turn (using record from input dropdown
options: pcm, synth, line-in, cd, microphone (with mic), mic boost (with mic).
Result was the same, no recording, only a hiss.

last thing I tried:
10. uninstall OSS and retry 1-9. No recording- hiss only.

I am not sure what all I should print here, but I will try to put
everything I can think of:

Ubuntu 8.04

per modprobe, the soundcard module is: snd-cmipci. snd-cmipci matches
what the ALSA project says is the driver for my soundcard.

[Bug 282229] [NEW] No new e-mails in Evolution E-mail

2008-10-12 Thread Norman Hudkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

No new e-mails have appeared in Evolution E-mail since September 11,
2008, or thereabouts. To find my e-mail, I have to reboot in Windows
Vista. I had to do this today to find the e-mail you sent me so I could
complete my Launchpad registration.

1) Ubuntu 8.04
2) evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1 per Synaptic
3) I expected to see a list of my e-mail, including read and unread messages.
4) I saw no messages listed, although in the frame at the left side of the
screen, I saw Inbox(3), indicating that I had 3 unread messages. The
Send/Receive button on the toolbar was grayed out.

Using the View menu, I managed today to see what was in my Inbox, but
there was nothing past Sept. 11, not even the e-mail you sent me after I
began the Launchpad registration process and tried again. It still
isn't there, although I saw it in my inbox in Windows Vista and
completed the Launchpad registration there.

The Send/Receive button is still grayed out.

[Bug 281024] Re: preset radio stations don't work

2008-10-12 Thread Julián Alarcón
Ok, new info. Ubuntu 8.04
I am checking some questions in answers, and here are some examples:

http://server00.streaming-pro.com/castcontrol/castcontrol/playlist.php?id=6type=pls
http://server00.streaming-pro.com/castcontrol/castcontrol/playlist.php?id=7type=asx

The above works in VLC.

And, this:
http://audio.grupolatinoderadio.com/envivo.ASX?EMI=COACTIVAT=15

Don't work, I think that maybe there is a problem with codecs. I have installed:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base - GStreamer plugins from the base set
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
gstreamer0.10-pitfdll

[Bug 260918] Re: needed: libv4l and associated application patches (or gspca stopped working in 2.6.27)

2008-10-12 Thread Kees Cook
The source code for ekiga does not contain any knowledge of libv4l. The
required libraries do that (pwlib in 2.x and ptlib in 3.x). As such,
libv4l support is not needed for ekiga (so it should stay Invalid).
pwlib has already been fixed now, and ptlib supports libv4l already (and
is not in the archive) so there is no task for it.

** Changed in: ekiga (Ubuntu Intrepid)
   Status: Fix Committed = Invalid

From what I've guessed in the log because I don't speak this language
the root cause is:

apturl can't be installed because gnome-app-install can't be installed
gnome-app-install can't be installed because synaptic can't be installed
synaptic can't be installed because a failure in scrollkeeper
scrollkeeper failed because of bug 256131

[Bug 10713] Re: Broken context-sensitive spell check in Evolution (Greek, Hebrew)

2008-10-12 Thread Evgeny Kuznetsov
Alkis, I have to say that my once-broken Russian spellchecking seems to
work again, but as I don't use spellchecking too much, I cannot tell at
which point it got repaired. Maybe is has something to do with Gutsy-to-
Hardy-to-Intrepid upgrade, maybe some other things, I honestly don't
know.

[Bug 282257] [NEW] Can't write thankyou in Hindi!!!

2008-10-12 Thread Andrew Clausen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gucharmap

The most common way to say thankyou in Hindi is something like shukriya.
The correct spelling of this word is unusual, and I can not reproduce it with
the character map. Moreover,
 * I could not find any electronic source that spells shukriya correctly
 * I could not generate the correct spelling with any software or websites I
could find. I tried SCIM, http://www.iit.edu/~laksvij/language/hindi.html,
Google translate, etc. They all either leave out this common word, or spell it
incorrectly!
 * but, I am sure I have the correct spelling! Both the Oxford Hindi-English
dictionary and Rupert Snell's Beginner's Hindi spell it the same way.

Details: the kri in shukriya is spelled with ऋ adjoined with the i
character.
(Just like ki is ka (क) with -i to become कि.)
This kri is shukriya is typically mispelled as कि.

Usually, in the character map, I can select the main character (in this
case ऋ) and then the -i character, and it forms the composite character.
This works for क and all other consonants I tried. But it doesn't work
for ऋ. It should!

[Bug 10713] Re: Broken context-sensitive spell check in Evolution (Greek, Hebrew)

2008-10-12 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Spelling suggestion in Greek works for me under special circumstances,
i.e. in fake words like αβγαnd, with English letters stacked right
before or after the Greek letters. And *only* when I click on these
English letters (nd) do I get a spelling menu. I don't get a spelling
menu when I click on the Greek letters (αβγα) of the same word.

More detailed description on my post upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344008#c17

Evgeny, Yotam, can you reproduce something similar in your languages?

[Bug 282275] [NEW] spaces are replaced by %20 when extract CD

2008-10-12 Thread Christian Göbel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Testing intrepid I ran into the following bug that I observed when using
rhythmbox to extract a music CD:
All the spaces in the Title, Song-title and so on are replaced by %20.
Example:
I the Musician is called: Manu Chao the corresponding folder will be namend:
Manu%20Chao.
This seems to be a regression compared to Hardy where this bug did no occur.

To reproduce:
a) insert a music CD
b) open rhythmbox
c) select extract
d) open /home/yourname/music to see that all spaces are replaced by %20 (also
in subfolders) for the newly
extracted CD.

By the way: If you Choose Edit/Preferences/Music and you look at the example
path then you should also see
that the spaces are replaced by %20.

I am using
rhythmbox
Version: 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu2

Keep up the good work.
