[Bug 330081] Re: Very low sound (lower than with Windows)
I have the same problem both with 8.04 and 8.10 (waiting for Jaunty...), when using everything that makes sound, from rhyhtmbox and vlc to warcraft and firefox. I have an audigy LS CA0106 (witch i`m using as primary sound card) and an onboard. Have searched the forums for any problem ever bothered me (like pulse audio forgeting the default sound card) and eventually found solutions that worked for me, EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE. Have all the volume meters MAXED (those with and without GUI). On windows I use to set my sound to 3% for everyday use. On ubuntu I have to set it to more than 30% (more likely something between 40-50%). Seems like a driver problem to me. Hope a solution will be found sometime. -- Very low sound (lower than with Windows) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330081 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 302744] Re: Firefox doesn't remember its unmaximized size with metaciy
I can't reproduce by following the exact instructions given here, but see the exact same symptoms by following these steps: Way to reproduce: 1. Make sure Metacity is the window-manager (ie. disable desktop effects) 2. Open firefox 3. Reduce the window size to cover only a part of the desktop. 4. Open up another window, for example your home folder, and place it on part of the screen that is currently not covered by firefox 5. Maximize firefox 6. Restart firefox 7. Unmaximize firefox. It will return to the size decided in 3). 8. Click the other window opened in 4) to switch focus to it. 9. Click the firefox window. Focus returns to firefox, but in the same time it changes the unmaximize size to cover the whole screen. The size from 3) is now forgotten. This is on Ubuntu 8.10, metacity 2.24.0, Firefox 3.0.6 For what it is worth, it seems that it works as it should on Debian Lenny with metacity 2.22.0, Iceweasel 3.0.6. [Bug 95853] Re: Delete file in Nautlus - no warning
I'm actually of the other camp. I get frustrated having to lose time confirming every action I wish to perform. It makes me scream Yes I wish to delete this file, why do you think I pressed delete in the first place? at my screen. It makes me think back in horror to the days I used that fisherprice green-blue operating system. Yes, true. I hate the Trash. I do not approve with this concept. If I want to delete, I press shift + del to delete the freakin file or i use rm WITHOUT the interactive option. I hate being asked for confirmation of things I know I want to do. I do not put things in Trash, I delete. Now if I happen to accidentially press delete, nautilus moves my files away without asking. I do not like that. My torrent folders just moved to the trash and my torrent app whined it could not access the anymore. I lose files because of this behaviour. Please appeal to the people in charge to put an OPTION there where you can disable the trash OR just put a bloody confirmation dialog there. The del key is just tooo much in reach to be accidentially pressed. [Bug 323873] [NEW] Pop-up notifications hide Gnome panel
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Jaunty a3, notifications are positioned over the Gnome panel, hiding important part of it. Steps to reproduce: 1) System Preferences Pop-up notifications 2) Preview You will notice, that the notification is positioned over the Desktop switcher and Trash icon, effectively hiding them. Now try to change the position to upper right: the popup now hides volume, network, date/time and user switcher applets. In any case user is required to close the popup before he can access the hidden part of the panel. Proposed solution: Offset the popup's vertical position by the height of the gnome-panel, placing the popup notification in the desktop area. [Bug 317597] Re: Not able to set Wallpaper/Background in intrepid
Guys, I'll be a bit aggressive, so excuse me in advance :-[ . THE REPEATABLE APPLICATION MISBEHAVIOR IS INDEED a BUG TOO (any QA or app. developer will tell you the same ;-) ). Not only the crush reason is a bug as it's implicitly assumed in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. There is NO WORKING SOLUTION offered yet to resolve this issue. As for now after Pedro redirected the bug to support center NO ONE SUGGESTED ANY SOLUTION yet. Furthermore the question https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meta-gnome2/+question/57594 is already expired (more than 15 days passed). This naturally makes concerned people like me and bug-reporter really unhappy with support :-( PLEASE PAY at least a little ALIVE HUMAN ATTENTION to such bug-reports. I believe that Pedro's comment is automatically generated upon some condition check (e.g. no dump-file attached). Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report If you try google search on the comment text, you can find it to be a common bug cancellation text. My 50 cents to help find out the bug source: I have Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid (386). 1. I've updated kernel to 2.6.27.12-generic 2. I used VNC to access ubuntu desktop (some settings could affect accessed desktop background). 3. I used RDP from ubuntu to access Windows desktop (I doubt whether this could relate to the issue) 4. Desktop could accidentally be rebooted due to power supply interruption. P.S.: sorry for being a bit aggressive :) just wanted to attract an attention to the issue. Thank you. [Bug 220657] Re: reduce backlight brightness / dim display when idle
I can only concur that this is still an issue. Why is it still marked as INCOMPLETE? What's the missing info? I'm using the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 1.01 (lpia, based on 8.04) on an Ideapad s10e and the screen is never dimmed. I think (but can't be sure due to inexistent documentation!) what it should look like: when I'm running a normal 8.04 (from USB, using unetbootin) the screen is dimmed to complete blackness after a few seconds of inactivity. I'd really like to debug/fix this issue since it could probably save quite some energy. However I don't know where to start looking since this feature seems to be neither documented nor configurable (timeout, how much dimming). [Bug 323606] Re: Processes remain after log off, sometimes preventing further graphical logins
Well, I have not tested _every_ time a user logs off, but the short answer is yes. Although I no longer have access to the network where I first discovered this issue, my recollection is that processes remain every time a user logs off. If not every time, then nearly every time. The remaining processes do not interfere with subsequent logins every time, though. Only sometimes. I have not yet been able to determine what exactly is preventing a subsequent login, but in a corporate environment this has to be addressed without the need to call a technician, hence the /etc/gdm/PostSession/Default modification. I noticed that most of my other bug reports about this issue were closed, even though I was simply following specific instructions to file those reports. [Bug 250266] Re: open with application list has duplicates and is unsorted
This has been an ongoing problem for me for years. The list presented makes no sense in terms of the order the apps are presented. Also, since there are multiple entries for many apps, why are they not listed together? They are scattered at random throughout the list. If the list is sorted using the mimetype associations to list the most likely applications that should be used first, that's not a bug were true, all the duplicate entries should be listed together, but they are not. For example, Brasero Disk Burning is listed 5 times scattered through the list. Duplicate entries are created every time you open the menu editor and change something. They are found in ~/.local/share/applications so you can weed them out. This is a separate bug. I am mainly concerned with the listed order of apps. Please reopen this. It's not a feature, it's a bug. There should be a choice to list the apps alphabetically. -- open with application list has duplicates and is unsorted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250266 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 328976] Re: nautilus affected by wine crash on Segmentation fault
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
