[Bug 638680] [NEW] gdm incorrectly configures multi-monitor displays

2010-09-15 Thread Darren Adams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Using Maverick 10.10 betas

Since updating to Maverick 10.10, GDM doesn't seem to start correctly
with my dual monitor setup, preventing the login screen from appearing.
However, when one of these monitors is unplugged GDM correctly
configures the display and the login screen appears.

I don't think this is related to the [Intel] xorg driver (the attached
xorg log indicates that both devices are detected and set to the correct
mode), and running startx does allow me to switch into a graphical
session. There also seems to be no problem with drm (no warnings in the
dmesg output).

Regardless, I'll attach output from the lspci, dmesg, and the xorg.log

Version of gdm is 2.30.5-0ubuntu4

Of course, if there is anything else you would like me to provide, I'll
try my best to do so

[Bug 638686] [NEW] maverick vnc server gtk application crash due to no keymap

2010-09-15 Thread Shyam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

I start the vnc server in a system that is on Maverick beta. I also have
icewm or lxde inside the vncserver. I connect to this vncserver from a
different machine.

When I try to launch any gtk application (gvim, firefox), it crashes
with a error message gdk-error : failed to get keymap.

Now, my vncserver is on display 1. I copy over the keymap from display
0. All gtk applications still crash.

I tried debugging it and found out that the bug (buck !!) stops in
libgtk2.0-2.21.7. I tried replacing this is with the package found in
lucid, and I do not see any crash.

[Bug 585116] Re: Unable to open e-mail attachments when the file has a spaces in the file name

2010-09-15 Thread Stefan Schneider-Kennedy
I'd say this is a problem with Opera, it just throws a filename at
evince, complete with any spaces, without quoting it.

This thread on the Opera forums seems to suggest it was fixed at the
time, so it may be a regression:
http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=293911 .

I just wrote a little wrapper script and get Opera to call that instead
of evince directly:

!#/bin/bash
exec evince $@

Yep, sounds like exactly the same bug.

Is this still an issue with gdm 2.30.5-0ubuntu4?

So far the only test on maverick from someone who's confirmed to see this
bug on lucid has failed to reproduce the problem there, even /without/ the
new gdm package. Nevertheless, I think there's enough information here to
mark this as a duplicate of 615549 and target that bug for SRU.

[Bug 626289] Re: gcalctool buttons are too big in dutch

2010-09-15 Thread Elco
I'm not sure where the line is drawn between a bug and a wishlist, but I
don't think this was the intended behaviour for this application, and
especially on small screens these big buttons make the calculator take
up way too much space. I'm not saying this is a bug of the highest
priority, but I do think it should be fixed one day.

Good call. I've reviewed all leftover Xorg logs and there were no (EE)
messages, particularly note related to nvidia. I have no reason to
believe that logs have gone missing, so I need to be more sure to make
that call. I will keep running with the modded upstart condition (which
incidentally matches the one from maverick, I believe?):

start on (filesystem
  and started dbus
  and (drm-device-added card0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1
   or stopped udevtrigger))
stop on runlevel [016]

Let you know how I fare

[Bug 617892] Re: Fotoxx samba share access 32 bit like Geequie

2010-09-15 Thread Anders
Kornelix, thanks for your quick reply and for keeping an eye on fotoxx
bugs on Launchpad (not all app developers do)

I assumed you used a standard GNOME dialogue, but curiously, there seem
to be 2 different dialogue boxes in play: GIMP, OpenOffice and Totem,
for example, work fine with samba shares, whereas some applications
(like fotoxx) just don't show them. As an end user I can't tell what
causes the difference except that there is something funny going
on...?

[Bug 638749] [NEW] enters infinite loop on entering certain date formats

2010-09-15 Thread Alexander E. Patrakov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

To reproduce:

Start gedit in the ru_RU.utf8 locale (this is important! in this locale
%p yields an empty string, in the C or en_US.utf8 locale it doesn't and
thus the bug is not reproducible).

Choose Правка Вставить дату и время... (Edit Insert Date and
Time...) from the menu.

Choose the Использовать другой формат (Use custom format) option.

Try to enter %p in the provided box.

Once you do so, gedit starts consuming 100% CPU and compiz dims its
window. At this point, you don't have any other option except to kill
gedit.

Instead, gedit should process the provided date format and yield
nothing.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: gedit 2.30.3-0ubuntu0.1

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 304345 ***

Further investigation reveals this is probably a duplicate of Bug
#304345 - a bug in the GTK file chooser that prevents a string of
applications to select samba shares.

Workaround: Browser to the desired location in Nautilus, then use the
file chooser and go to {home directory}/.gvfs/{desired share}

[Bug 322314] Re: Automatically connect on startup setting confusing - users may expect this to run Empathy on login

2010-09-15 Thread Kazade
So, should we start another bug report to get Empathy to show under
Startup Applications? As it just involves adding a file to the Empathy
package in /etc/xdg/autostart it should be a pretty easy fix.

We should really have the same option for all applications that live
permanently under the indicator menu (Gwibber, Evolution, Empathy).

[Bug 315119] Re: Doesn't implement the metacity shade button

2010-09-15 Thread Lionel Dricot
I'm a bit sad because not answer has been made to my comment #6 and
because someone even volunteered to provide a patch.

So, we have :
- A clear user request
- Someone volunteering to implement it
- No drawback at all (the change will only be noticeable in a positive way)

and, basically, someone else decided no without any explanation and we
have to accept it. That's sad :-(

[Bug 632737] Re: file-roller can't handle german umlauts.

2010-09-15 Thread g00fy
I have forgotten to metion, this bug only happens if the file was packed
in windows. So I think its a problem with the charsets.

above there are 3 files backed with Windows XP. The files in the archives are
zero-sized textfiles.
In test.rar and test.zip the umlauts are shown wrong.
file-roller is able to extract the file from the test.zip, but if I try to
extract the test.rar he only pretends success.

The command-line rar-command does also show the wrong characters, but it
is able to extract the file.

The problem doesn't appear in the test.7z.

The files in the test.rar and test.zip are named this is a täst ö ü
ß.txt and tästfile ö ü ß.txt

[Bug 315119] Re: Doesn't implement the metacity shade button

2010-09-15 Thread Vish
@ploum: not sure what you want explained , but it has already been mentioned
that this is a design decision and that it wont be fixed.
Do you want to add a button for every option ? something similar to KDE? This
seems a personal choice rather than an accessibility issue.
What is the problem for accessibility? There seems to be no basis for that
'complaint'. Accessibility issue faced by users affected by? Accessibility is a
large blanket and just throwing in the word accessibility seems to be just
for the sake of having a feature added.
Are there any real accessibility issues? why isnt this implemented in any theme
? Why is it not being requested by the accessibility team? Neither gnome nor
the Ubuntu accessibility team have not brought up this issue for years? Why?

Also , Human theme is no longer the default theme. Nor is it installed
by default.

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gdm

I upgraded to Feisty from a clean Edgy install on an HP Compaq nx9030
laptop, and when I boot up it now goes through the first stages fine, but
hangs before login, shortly after the background appears, with a timer wheel
cursor displaying. Switching to another terminal allows me to log in and
perform standard command line operations, although not to start X since that
 is already running.

Deleting the /etc/init.d/gdm script caused the system to go straight to the
command line prompt, and starting X manually from there works fine with full
desktop functionality (bar features such as user switching which are
presumably gdm dependent). Copying the gdm script over from another machine
running Edgy (in case that was the source of the problem) produced the same
hang as with the original script. Uninstalling and reinstalling the gdm and
xserver-xorg packages, running dpkg-reconfigure and dpkg --configure -a, and
switching to an earlier kernel all had no effect.

[Bug 315119] Re: Doesn't implement the metacity shade button

2010-09-15 Thread Lionel Dricot
Vish : yes, it is implemented in older theme (like crux). I don't know
why it is not implemented anymore. The fact is that it is a feature
offered by Metacity and that I don't understand why a theme might choose
to not implement it by design.

I totally understand the send your patch answer but, in this case,
someone was willing to provide a patch and, by closing this bug, it is
answered that a patch would not be accepted anyway. (and my guess that a
patch from Thomas Thurman would be of very high quality).

Accessibility is, I agree, out of the scope. It was part of an
experiment I was doing with users that lead me to discover that bug. I
shouldn't have talked about that here. (This led me to conduct some
experiments with older metacity themes like Crux, Gorilla, you know that
kind of old stuffs, not really shiny)

And yes, you are right, it should be reported against the new default theme too.

Ubuntu has experimented putting the buttons on the other side of the window and
I believe that implementing those buttons in new themes might maybe led to
other experiments that might be useful (or not, but there's no way to know).

Don't get me wrong : this is not a major issue, I agree that is very low
priority, I would not kill for it ;-)

[Bug 555485] Re: [Lucid] Brasero fails while trying to burn VCD or SVCD

2010-09-15 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
I still encounter this problem using current Brasero (2.30.2) in up-to-
date Lucid 64bit. It appears when using .ogg- as well as .mpeg-files and
trying to burn it to a VCD or SVCD in PAL or original format (havn't
tried NTSC). Attaching log-file of burning process. Changing status to
»New«.
