[Bug 638680] [NEW] gdm incorrectly configures multi-monitor displays
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Using Maverick 10.10 betas Since updating to Maverick 10.10, GDM doesn't seem to start correctly with my dual monitor setup, preventing the login screen from appearing. I'd say this is a problem with Opera, it just throws a filename at evince, complete with any spaces, without quoting it. [Bug 638749] [NEW] enters infinite loop on entering certain date formats
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit To reproduce: Start gedit in the ru_RU.utf8 locale (this is important! in this locale %p yields an empty string, in the C or en_US.utf8 locale it doesn't and thus the bug is not reproducible). Choose Правка Вставить дату и время... (Edit Insert Date and Time...) from the menu. Choose the Использовать другой формат (Use custom format) option. Try to enter %p in the provided box. Once you do so, gedit starts consuming 100% CPU and compiz dims its window. At this point, you don't have any other option except to kill gedit. Instead, gedit should process the provided date format and yield nothing. [Bug 632737] Re: file-roller can't handle german umlauts.
I have forgotten to metion, this bug only happens if the file was packed in windows. So I think its a problem with the charsets. above there are 3 files backed with Windows XP. The files in the archives are zero-sized textfiles. In test.rar and test.zip the umlauts are shown wrong. file-roller is able to extract the file from the test.zip, but if I try to extract the test.rar he only pretends success. The command-line rar-command does also show the wrong characters, but it is able to extract the file. The problem doesn't appear in the test.7z. [Bug 315119] Re: Doesn't implement the metacity shade button
@ploum: not sure what you want explained , but it has already been mentioned that this is a design decision and that it wont be fixed. Do you want to add a button for every option ? something similar to KDE? This seems a personal choice rather than an accessibility issue. What is the problem for accessibility? There seems to be no basis for that 'complaint'. Accessibility issue faced by users affected by? Accessibility is a large blanket and just throwing in the word accessibility seems to be just for the sake of having a feature added. Are there any real accessibility issues? why isnt this implemented in any theme ? Why is it not being requested by the accessibility team? Neither gnome nor the Ubuntu accessibility team have not brought up this issue for years? Why? Also , Human theme is no longer the default theme. Nor is it installed by default. -- Doesn't implement the metacity shade button https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-themes-extras in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: gdm I upgraded to Feisty from a clean Edgy install on an HP Compaq nx9030 laptop, and when I boot up it now goes through the first stages fine, but hangs before login, shortly after the background appears, with a timer wheel cursor displaying. Switching to another terminal allows me to log in and perform standard command line operations, although not to start X since that is already running. Deleting the /etc/init.d/gdm script caused the system to go straight to the command line prompt, and starting X manually from there works fine with full desktop functionality (bar features such as user switching which are presumably gdm dependent). Copying the gdm script over from another machine running Edgy (in case that was the source of the problem) produced the same hang as with the original script. Uninstalling and reinstalling the gdm and xserver-xorg packages, running dpkg-reconfigure and dpkg --configure -a, and switching to an earlier kernel all had no effect. [Bug 315119] Re: Doesn't implement the metacity shade button
Vish : yes, it is implemented in older theme (like crux). I don't know why it is not implemented anymore. The fact is that it is a feature offered by Metacity and that I don't understand why a theme might choose to not implement it by design. I totally understand the send your patch answer but, in this case, someone was willing to provide a patch and, by closing this bug, it is answered that a patch would not be accepted anyway. (and my guess that a patch from Thomas Thurman would be of very high quality). Accessibility is, I agree, out of the scope. It was part of an experiment I was doing with users that lead me to discover that bug. I shouldn't have talked about that here. (This led me to conduct some experiments with older metacity themes like Crux, Gorilla, you know that kind of old stuffs, not really shiny) And yes, you are right, it should be reported against the new default theme too. Ubuntu has experimented putting the buttons on the other side of the window and I believe that implementing those buttons in new themes might maybe led to other experiments that might be useful (or not, but there's no way to know). Don't get me wrong : this is not a major issue, I agree that is very low priority, I would not kill for it ;-) -- Doesn't implement the metacity shade button https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-themes-extras in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
