[Bug 678421] Re: Error in ~/.profile halts the X startup
I don't actually think that silently ignoring ~/.profile if it has errors is actually a good and expected behaviour. After all, the user just changed his ~/.profile and now restarted the session, perhaps to test the effect. The best thing to me would be a dialog box that actually showed the error that the shell command encountered, and then exit the session. That might actually be possible with zenity or similar. We should at least ensure that the error appears in ~/.xsession-errors, then we at least have some point of feedback. So from my POV the current bug title is wontfix. I'm fine with renaming it to better error message for broken ~/.profile, if you prefer that? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/678421 Title: Error in ~/.profile halts the X startup -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 678421] Re: Error in ~/.profile halts the X startup
Sure, silently just ignoring is just as bad. I just think that, it's a mistake that shouldn't prevent you to login and start up everything. The ~/.profile script can also easily be changed by non-experienced users (ones who may not know terminal that well). If that user doesn't get the session running then he'll be forced to use terminal. The ideal case I think would be: everything starts up and an relevant error message is displayed. I'm ok with scripts in /etc/.. preventing xsession to start as that requires sudo permissions (as sudo implies that caution must be taken). Essentially my POV is that if modifying a script doesn't require sudo permissions it should be relatively safe, meaning you should be still able to fix it from GUI interface. Of course practically it's impossible to do so, but it's a target to move towards.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
I can confirm this on an Intel chipset. I have two laptops - a Sony Vaio with an Nvidia card, and a Dell Vostro V13 with an Intel card. Screensaver works perfectly fine on the nvidia system, and not once has a freeze happened. The freezes were happening every time with the Intel one, until I disabled the screensaver. I can also confirm this with both 32-bit and 64-bit Natty Narwhal. I had 32-bit Natty on both systems, and I replaced them with 64-bit Natty on both. The nvidia works fine without freezes, while on the other one I haven't yet tried enabling the screensaver. I do not think it has anything to do with a video application or banshee or whatever, since it has happened with me plenty of times when I have not been using anything other than emacs and evince. It definitely seems to be related to the xorg-xserver-video-intel driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762918 Title: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 785112] Re: Both in the terminal and the update manager the progress just stops.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: * Is this reproducible? * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? This will help us to find and resolve the problem. It sounds like you are able to reproduce the bug consistently, but please answer both points. ** Changed in: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785112 Title: Both in the terminal and the update manager the progress just stops. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 140785] Re: Almost mesages sent into trash by messages filters
I just experienced this bug or something very similar! I created a rule with a filter by the subject line to move the message into a folder that I created. When I clicked OK and the window closed I went back to my Inbox - only to discover that it was empty. Upon further examination, I noticed that every email in my Inbox got sent to the Trash folder. I tried this again - and it is totally repeatable. This (without a doubt) is a serious bug and might give the user some unnecessary anxiety when he/she discovers that every email in the Inbox folder is gone. Thank God that it's actually in the Trash folder and can be easily recovered. Since this bug report was closed - I hope that the new information I submitted will shed some new light on the matter and perhaps the incident can be reopened and investigated further. Thanks for an almost great piece of software. Everything else seems to be working perfectly!
