[Bug 1074838] [NEW] Keyboard layout preference panel changes my locale with no action
Public bug reported: I installed my Ubuntu 12.04 system (using Gnome Classic) with English (US) as the default locale (I performed the installation in US), and then took the laptop back to China, where I reside most of the year. Since then, I have found two unwanted behaviors in the keyboard layout preference panel: 1. When I open the keyboard layout preferences**, it goes first to the Layouts tab. But, it has already silently changed the display language from my original English (US) setting to Chinese (China). I did not do anything to make this change. There is no warning in the interface that the locale has changed. The only way to see that it changed is to click on the Language tab -- which, of course, no user is going to do unless they want to change the locale. ** System Settings Keyboard Keyboard Layouts link This confused me mightily on my next login, when all menus and everything else were suddenly in Chinese, due to no action of my own. I think it's a reasonable expectation on the user's part that simply opening a preference panel will not overwrite options that have already been configured. The Language setting should remain unchanged until the user explicitly changes it! 2. At the same time, the file ~/.signature is deleted. I can't think of a good reason for this either. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074838 Title: Keyboard layout preference panel changes my locale with no action To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1074838/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1010619] Re: [2.97-0ubuntu2] Rhythmbox freezes
I confirm this as well, same thing here, all started after upgrading to Quantal also with large collection (~200GB). Got my collection mounted from my NAS through fstab, first I thought this was the issue because noticed the 'sambafs' got deprecated and replaced by 'cifs' in 12.10. So tried nfs/cifs and some other mount options, but that doesn't seem to be the problem, mounts are readable and writable. When rhytmbox is started with: rhythmbox --debug It will freeze for a short while to be fully functional after. Until I close it again and try to start it normally, it will freeze up again and won't comeback. Tryed to let it run for a 1hr+ but doesn't come back anymore. Noticed that even sometimes with the --debug parameter it seems to random freeze up while doing the following: [0x1217f20] [rhythmdb_add_uri_with_types] rhythmdb.c:2996: queueing stat for file:///media/Music/xxx (Btw there is a typo there queueing - queuing) Clearing out ~/.local/share/rhythmbox, will make rhythmbox box start and work properly until it has been closed again and you restart it, it will freeze up again. Even though clearing out my ~/.local/share/rhythmbox is not really an option, because I don't want to loose my ratings in rhythmdb.xml! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010619 Title: [2.97-0ubuntu2] Rhythmbox freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox/+bug/1010619/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1012277] Re: Closing laptop lid should not blank external monitor
I had observed the same bug on my Laptop Asus K40IN (graphics nvidia G102M). But I found a workaround: 1. Open in editor /etc/acpi/lid.sh and insert exit 0 in the beginning of the script, to force exit on start. This script executes every time when you close or open the lid of your laptop. Then restart ubuntu, should help, but this didn't helped me when I first tried to do that. I'm not completely sure that this works. 2. Disable DPMS, you can read a lot of information about it here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Display_Power_Management_Signaling . Both works on my laptop: Disable DPMS and prevent screen from blanking: xset -dpms; xset s off edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and append in Monitor section Option DPMS false -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012277 Title: Closing laptop lid should not blank external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/1012277/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 492658] Re: Rhythmbox MusicBrainz cover art search engine fails to load available cover art
This bug appears to have been fixed in 12.10. I was able to use MusicBrainz to get album info and cover art for my CDs. [Bug 964270] Re: Ubuntu forgets keyboard shortcuts after a restart
Another confirmation on 12.10, using Unity. I did not experience this bug using 12.04. Interestingly this seems to reset shortcuts where there is a default, but not new ones. In my case, I replace Shift to workspace right with Ctrl-Alt-h, rather than Ctrl-Alt-right arrow. (And the rest of the vim direction keys). This shortcut gets reset. But I also have Ctrl-Alt-m set (via CCSM) to move a window to the next display port (multi monitor thing using the compiz Put plugin) as that shortcut survives reboots. Thanks a lot for reporting this. The problem is not restricted to Nautilus but instead lies with the behaviour of the Overlay Scrollbar on a maximised window. [Bug 959276] Re: Scrolling message in preview breaks rendering
This is happening for me as well. On three different devices (all 12.04). Only happens on long messages. These messages typically have been group discussions with multiple replies. The norm here is showing previous emails in the thread with on each line of the previous thread. I got to thinking about this and the response I found from an Evolution developer saying this is related to gtkHTML. I configured evolution (edit-preferences-mail preferences-html messages) to use Plain text mode by selecting the option to Show suppressed HTML parts as attachments and HTML Mode as Only ever show plain text. Now I can't replicate the problem. HTML portions of inbound email are now attachments, which I can choose to view inline (handy because get a fair amount of email that is only html). I think gtkHTML is getting blown away by what it thinks is an enormous amount of html open tags and no closing ones. But that is just a hunch, I did not try to verify it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959276 Title: Scrolling message in preview breaks rendering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/959276/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1074977] [NEW] Creating NTFS/FAT partitions results to partition type Linux
Public bug reported: When trying to create a partition with FAT or NTFS as its file system with gnome-disk-utility, the resulting partition type id is always 83 (Linux). [Bug 1074376] [NEW] Menus don't open while the keyboard is grabbed
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When running a full-screen VM (based on virtual box here) on the second monitor, and the VM has focus, the panel indicator apps on the first monitor do no longer work. [Bug 1074376] Re: Full-screen VM on second monitor breaks panel indicators on first monitor
This may be un-fixable. The VM window holds a keyboard grab while it is focussed. And that probably prevents any dropdown menu from working, because such menus also require a grab. If they can't get one then it's reasonable that the menu will never display at all. ** Also affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Full-screen VM on second monitor breaks panel indicators on first monitor + Menus don't open while the keyboard is grabbed ** Package changed: unity (Ubuntu) = gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074376 Title: Menus don't open while the keyboard is grabbed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1074376/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1075043] [NEW] In programming mode, state of the current base is not saved when using the Ctrl key equivalents
Public bug reported: If the calculator is set to Programming mode and you use the Ctrl shortcuts to switch between bases, the base in use at program exit is not saved. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set the calculator to Programming Mode. 2. Set the base to Hexadecimal using the drop-down menu. 3. Exit the program. 4. Reopen the program. 5. Notice that it loads into Hexadecimal mode. 6. Press Ctrl+D to switch to decimal mode. 7. Exit the program. 8. Reopen the program - notice that the base is still set to Hexadecimal. It will remain on hexadecimal between many loads and if you only use Ctrl+B, Ctrl+D or Ctrl-H to set the base during the calculator session. [Bug 225361] Re: .gvfs can't be stat'd by root causing backup tools to fail
On 12.10 this still appears to be an issue out of the box. The biggest problem it causes is that it makes working with one's own system very frustrating, since you lose the ability to use any GVFS mounted filesystems between sudo'd nautilus windows (you have to drag to local machine, then drag to wherever one is working). There desperately needs to be a configuration option for this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225361 Title: .gvfs can't be stat'd by root causing backup tools to fail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/225361/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1002788] Re: Using the touchscreen breaks normal device left clicking
This bug is related to xserver and not only nautilus. It has been fixed upstream in commit 3e6358ee6c33979329b78fe2097a1fdf76fb69cd Xi: Don't check for TOUCH_END, it's never set but as you are experiencing, it's not included in neither ubuntu 12.04 nor F17 (though F18 is fixed). I would recommend changing the priority of this bug as it affects all multitouch screens and also changing the component to xserver.
