[Bug 1575481] [NEW] [16.04] New Ubuntu Software (Center) - Non-functional core features
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Release:16.04 ubuntu-software: Installiert: 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2 Installationskandidat: 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2 Versionstabelle: *** 3.20.1+git20160420.1.ca63436.ubuntu-xenial-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What is supposed to happen: The new Ubuntu Software (Center) is supposed to show me all software that is part of the used repositories, all packages that can also be found using "apt-cache dump". It is supposed to show me the version number of the package and the size. It is supposed to letting me abort a download or installation (for example if the download takes to long). It is supposed to show me that the software is installed after an installation is finished. What is happening: The new Ubuntu Software (Center) cannot find certain software (e.g. Wine or Steam). It is, however, possible to install such software using the terminal. Version number and size are not shown (it seems that it endlessly tries to calculate the size, the version field remains just blank). It is not possible to abort an installation. If an installation is finished, sometimes the status "installed" is not shown until the computer is rebooted. This seems to happen randomly (it happened for me with packages for the programs Geany, GHex and some others). [Bug 1575452] [NEW] Copy/move dialog cannot be switched to
Public bug reported: When copying or moving a large file, Nautilus opens a window with the progress of the operation. If the user were to pull a larger window forward, that dialog cannot be accessed through Alt+tab or the Unity bar. The user would have to move the obscuring window out of the way in order to pull the progress dialog forward. How to recreate: 1. Copy or move a large file. I recommend copying or moving to or from an SD card, USB key, or network device because they tend to be much slower than the local hard disk. 2. When the copy or move progress dialog appears, move a larger or maximized window over the dialog so it is obscured. Alternately, just click a different window to select it. 3. Click the Nautilus icon in the Unity bar, or press Alt+tab. Expected behavior: The copy/move dialog will be brought to the front. Actual behavior: The last used normal (non-dialog) Nautilus window will be brought to the front. Frequency: Every time. [Bug 1575337] Re: syslog.log is completely empty
ok, so I think what the issue is. I found a different rule that would do: & ~ However, that means " stop logging anything that matches the last rule", however, instead of stopping just that rule, it was stopping everything. The reason why this was stopping everything is because it didn't really match the last rle, provided that the last rule was wrapped in an if statement, hence it was completely stopping rsyslog logging. ** No longer affects: rsyslog (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: maas Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: systemd (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575337 Title: syslog.log is completely empty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1575337/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1575337] Re: syslog.log is completely empty
Ok, so MAAS install's an rsyslog config to forward messages from syslog to /var/log/maas/maas.log. Today we noticed that maas.log was completely empty, and on further checking, we noticed that syslog was completely empty as well. The fun fact, however, is that MAAS has not changed its syslog configuration in years, and we definitely don't believe this is the problem. Also, this was working before just fine without any issues before , and as such, we don't believe is a problem on rsyslog. The interesting thing is that rsyslog hasn't really change much in the past few months (iother that 2, no change rebuilds). Also, syslog logs that should be on /var/log/syslog are on systemd's journal. The only note-worthy log entries I see in that folder are in x-0-greeter.log, and I'm not 100% sure they're related to this bug, I've attached the log file. I have just managed to reproduce this again: 1) I sshed into my machine from another machine to verify when my machine crashes 2) On my machine I hit ctrl+alt+L to start the lock screen 3) Waited a few minutes (not sure how long I actually need to wait) 4) pressed the num lock key At that point, the LED lights on my keyboard and mouse turned off, and the monitors displayed the "not connected" message. On the machine that I used to ssh with, the terminal had frozen. The reason I assigned this to lightdm is because I've reproduced this bug on the greeter screen where (I think) it's the only thing running, and it crashes the greeter leaving just the background image/colour displaying. ** Attachment added: "x-0-greeter.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1543782/+attachment/4648181/+files/x-0-greeter.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1543782 Title: Complete system freeze some time after lock screen starts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1543782/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Of a sort. All the required data structures for proper implementation is present to fix this bug. It's just a matter of knowing the size of N rectangles, where N is the number of displays. [Bug 1575248] Re: "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." on "sudo apt-get update"
Btw, the linked Debian bug is valid, because it complains about not being able to take action on this message, which is something that could be improved. But since this will usually highlight issues which can only be fixed server-side, this message is primarily for distributors and PPA-maintainers, to know that something is wrong and needs fixing (details are show in verbose mode, because the issues can be plenty - see the Debian bug report for that). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to appstream in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575248 Title: "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." on "sudo apt-get update" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/appstream/+bug/1575248/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1575248] Re: "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." on "sudo apt-get update"
The AppStream component 'com.steelseries.rival-legacy.firmware' in `/usr/share/app-info/xmls/org.freedesktop.fwupd.xml` must have a and tag to be valid. Adding fwupd, because this should be fixed there. Upstream said he will commit a fix to fwupd tomorrow. The ID collisions are issues in the metadata Ubuntu provides, and something which can only be fixed server-side, or basically in the packages providing: * plan.desktop * flcheckers.desktop * flblocks.desktop * flsudoku.desktop If two packages providing the same .desktop file is justified, one should be ignored using X-AppStream-Ignore, so it is clear which one is the primary component to be used by AppStream. The issue "zathura-pdf-poppler.desktop extends zathura.desktop, but zathura.desktop was not found." needs to be investigated, looks like there is some package/file missing in the archive, or a value isn't set correctly. In any case, fixing the fwupd issue will make the warning message go away, so I'm marking this as invalid on AppStream for now. ** Changed in: appstream (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to appstream in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575248 Title: "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." on "sudo apt-get update" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/appstream/+bug/1575248/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1565267] Re: Gnome Calendar does not use Unity decorations
White corners are, I think, because g-cal has it's own CSS file "gtk- styles.css". Line 5 of this file sets .views to have a background colour of @theme_base_color. Our CSS tries to override this on the GcalWindow object and set the colour to transparent. I think this is being over-ridden in turn by the hard-coded (?) gtk-styles.css. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
