[Bug 2067332] Re: Gnome crash after sleep mode!

2024-05-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The only crashes I can see are related to barriers:

[ 160.039193] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]:
libmutter:ERROR:../src/backends/x11/meta-barrier-x11.c:231:meta_x11_barriers_free:
 assertion failed: (g_hash_table_size (x11_barriers->barriers) == 0)
[ 160.039285] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]: Bail out!
libmutter:ERROR:../src/backends/x11/meta-barrier-x11.c:231:meta_x11_barriers_free:
 assertion failed: (g_hash_table_size (x11_barriers->barriers) == 0)
[ 160.039285] Hyperion gnome-shell[2865]: GNOME Shell crashed with signal 6

So the problem is likely a buggy extension. Probably one of these:

'extension-list@tu.berry', 'mediacontr...@cliffniff.github.com',
'vit...@corecoding.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com', 'apps-
m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'gtk4-d...@smedius.gitlab.com', 'shortc...@kyle.aims.ac.za', 'just-
perfection-desktop@just-perfection', 'wintile-bey...@grylledcheez.xyz',
'caffe...@patapon.info', 'hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca',
'windowsnaviga...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com'

Please start by uninstalling all of them to test.

[Bug 2067260] Re: Mouse mapping randomly temporarily changes after Ubuntu 24.04 upgrade

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The side buttons (BTN_EXTRA/SIDE or buttons 8/9 in Xorg) are mapped to
forward/back (Alt+Right/Left). So it sounds like the wheel is getting
misinterpreted as that, sometimes.

I wonder if you have found either:
 * A keyboard modifier stuck down, if not physically then in software.
 * Some accessibility mode.
 * A hardware-specific mode within the mouse itself.

But we are looking for similar errors that might be occurring during
locking. So next time the problem happens, please unlock the screen and
then run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 2067209] Re: wayland doesnt work after update

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2024-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Those log messages are from gnome-shell extensions but I can't tell what
"bms" is. It's not a standard Ubuntu extension.

What extensions do you have installed? And are you trying to report some
more fundamental issue than just log messages?

2024-05-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt

2024-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Workaround:

1. Ctrl+Alt+F3

2. Log in

3. Some combination of:

   sudo dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb
   sudo apt --fix-broken install

4. Reboot

It should also be possible for someone to find a simpler workaround than
that.

I have now reproduced the original issue twice:

Settings schema 'org.gnome.mutter.wayland' does not contain a key
named 'xwayland-allow-byte-swapped-clients'

What happened was that gnome-shell 42.9 got SIGKILL'd (along with all
other user processes). And after that the system tries to restart it as
gnome-shell 46.0 which isn't fully installed/configured.

The SIGKILL seems to have come from a systemd restart. I did say yes to
automatically restarting services, so maybe I shouldn't have?

may 16 16:17:07 jammytest2 systemd[1]: Reexecuting.
...
may 16 16:17:09 jammytest2 systemd[1]: user@1000.service: Killing process 1228

[Bug 2052913] Re: [Xorg] Large performance regression in fullscreen windows

2024-05-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm not sure I can work on this while I only have one laptop on hand
this week. I am getting highly erratic benchmark results where a bare
Xorg server runs *slower* than gnome-shell on Xorg. No wonder so few
people have reported it, because it's not always easy to notice or
reproduce.

I'm not sure gir1.2-glib-2.0 is enough here. After making a fresh jammy

[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-05-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You don't really need to enable jammy-proposed. Just download the 3
proposed packages:

 *
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/42.9-0ubuntu8/+build/28435945/+files/gir1.2-mutter-10_42.9-0ubuntu8_amd64.deb

 *
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/42.9-0ubuntu8/+build/28435945/+files/libmutter-10-0_42.9-0ubuntu8_amd64.deb

 *
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/42.9-0ubuntu8/+build/28435945/+files/mutter-
common_42.9-0ubuntu8_all.deb

and if you already had the 'mutter' package (which you don't need) then
also:

 *
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/42.9-0ubuntu8/+build/28435945/+files/mutter_42.9-0ubuntu8_amd64.deb

And install them as one:

[Bug 2065695] Re: GNOME Shell crashed with signal 11 on drag and drop panel

2024-05-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.
