[Bug 2067260] [NEW] Mouse mapping randomly temporarily changes after Ubuntu 24.04 upgrade
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I could not find an exact trigger yet, but from time to time the mapping of the mouse goes crazy in browsers (at least the standard Ubuntu snap Firefox package and a Rambox Debian package which, I assume, is based on Chromium): * the wheel starts acting as if it was mapped to previous/next shortcut (so same effect than alt right/left arrows) * the left click is... well, I'm not sure, but it's not left-click anymore (clicking a link on Firefox seems to have no effect other that noticing that the link is clicked) * not sure it's related to the mapping but another problem is that some "button" seems to end up producing a click event but is never released and in some case it ends up getting a bit crazy until I find a way to stop that (clicking the mouse button has no effect in that case) A workaround which works well is to start a new Firefox windows with Ctrl+N and close it. And this workaround also fixes other impacted applications, so I guess it's much more general than Firefox. Sorry for the lack of technical detail, but I have no idea what exactly is in charge of this or what to look at. But I would gladly check anything you want as it's quite a huge pain since the Upgrade to 24.04 as you can imagine. [Bug 2067214] [NEW] Night Light not working
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Night light is not working on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 install. Nothing about the system was changed, enabling the night light was literally the first thing I did after the very first boot of the system. I set the schedule to manual and adjusted the "Times" option such that it would enable at the time of testing. The night light icon on the top bar shows up as expected. I'm including this information on the off-chance it is somehow relevant: during the Ubuntu 24.04 install procedure, I selected the Dark theme. The system correctly booted using the Dark theme. Switching to the light theme had no effect on the Night Light functionality. [Bug 2066516] [NEW] fractional scaling corrupts the monitors.xml file
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu 22.04.4, gnome shell 42.9, wayland (per the "About" screen under Ubuntu settings). I have two monitors, I set the fractional scaling on each to be 125%. Each has a resolution of 1920 X 1080. On the left monitor, I have an icon on the desktop appearing in the middle of the monitor. I can move it around on that monitor, but: Something strange happens if I try to move it to one of the three rightmost "columns" of that left monitor. If I try to move it to one of those three rightmost columns on the left monitor, it ends up in one of the three leftmost columns of the right monitor. (But: Attempting to place an icon in one of the three leftmost columns of the right monitor does NOT place it in one of the three rightmost columns of the left monitor - In this case the icon stays on the right monitor where I intend for it to be.) Don't have this problem when the resolution is set at the default of 100% on each monitor. I have the resolution on each monitor to be 1920 X 1080. When I leave the fractional scaling - under the Ubuntu settings display option - at the default of 100%, in the monitors.xml file the x,y coordinates for the two monitors are exactly as I'd expect them to be: viz., 0,0 for the left monitor, and 1920,0 for the right monitor. However, when I change that fractional scaling setting from 100% to 125% on each monitor, and leave the resolution on each monitor at 1920 X 1080, the x,y coordinates automatically get changed to 0,0 and 1536,0. My simplistic understanding is that this change effectively makes the left monitor get cutoff at 1536 instead of at 1920, basically moving the rightmost 20% of that monitor's x dimension to be treated as part of the right monitor's x dimension. If I manually fix the x,y coordinates in the monitors.xml file, then at next reboot the fractional scaling is automatically reset to 100% on each monitor. I obviously do not understand the relationship between fractional scaling and monitor dimensions in the monitors.xml file. (Incidentally, in gnome tweaks under the font setting I have throughout all this left the scaling option at the default of 1.0. [Bug 1935083] [NEW] Universal Access / Magnification / Zoom tracking problem
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi there. background: I have a visual disability so I use the zoom / magnifier feature. Problem: Firstly, if on a dialogue screen, for example settings, and you moved the mouse, to view another part of the box, t would snap back to the centre, it didn't seem to matter what tracking option I selected, it did the same. Expectation: I would expect the zoom area to remain focused on the mouse pointer, unless I hit a key if focused on a text box or other action button. Problem 2: Another is, when writing in a text box, say like this form, it will track to the top left of the screen for no good reason, meaning I have to find the mouse and pull it back again, it will not track back when hitting the keyboard, these are easy to reproduce and I've made short vids of this happening if that helps (let me know where to post them if it does help). Expectation: Here I would expect the magnifier to centre on the text cursor and move along with it, unless the mouse point is moved, then move back if a key is pressed again. Be great if we can get this bugs squished, let me know what information you need to help track this problem down. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Universal Access, Magnification turned on, sorry don't know the package name. Thanks. [Bug 2064510] [NEW] File manager hang up
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I was doing a large backup of files from an SSD drive to a external USB drive using rsync running in a terminal window. I then opened up a new file manager window and then (i think) I clicked on the same SSD drive (that was being copied) to get its properties (I wanted to see how much disk space was used up). I then got a dialog popup on the screen (I have a screenshot of this attached) saying the following "There was an error while getting the sharing information" Failed to execute child process "net" (No such file or directory) At this point all the file manager windows were unresponsive. They could not be closed, but I think they could be moved and they could come to foreground etc. In the end I had to crash power off my laptop. I took me 4 hours to chkdsk\recover file systems on both my external USB hard drives and the SSD as well (done using Win10 because they were all NTFS drives). Also as an aside (this is probably another bug)... every so often a file manager window will freeze on its righthand side. You can click on various drives on the lefthand side but it never updates the righthand side to show the file\folders on that clicked drive. I end up closing the filemanager window and opening up a new one. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- File manager hang up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064510 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have two monitors (Iiyama and Philips). In 22.04 I had two separate pulpits on each monitors. [Bug 2063520] [NEW] amdgpu causes GTK4/Libadwaita, etc. rendering text with missing characters
You have been subscribed to a public bug: UPDATE: It seems to be related with `amdgpu` driver, which is the default driver in Ubuntu. After disabling `amdgpu`, problem vanishes. However, software rendering is not a perfect solution. IT SEEMS THAT `amdgpu` in later updates of Ubuntu 23.10 & 24.04 are BUGGY. As no driver alternatives are available right now for Ubuntu 24.04, now I am having a hard time. [UPDATE] Updating to Ubuntu 24.04 DO NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM Before updating to Ubuntu 24.04, I do sudo apt upgrade to update my packages on Ubuntu 23.10 first. [UPDATE] Updating to Ubuntu 24.04 DO NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM Then I found that every program in GTK4/Libadwaita renders with missing characters, even gdm (I cannot take a screenshot of gdm, but the problems are the same). I toggled "Antialising" in GNOME tweaks, and some characters return TEMPORARILY. Then I opened a new GTK4/Libadwaita program, problems re- occur. Besides, problems exist in Xorg/Wayland, as Ubuntu 23.10 uses Xwayland. Problems exist in Plasma. Texts in desktop icons are missing, too. AND I FOUND THAT the "Graphics" Section (the driver name) has been changed to "AMD Readon 680M" after the update (I think it is something like "AMD Rembrandt" before sudo apt upgrade). (I toggled in GNOME tweaks to make the window display graphics info; if I re-open it, fonts will be missing again) If I hover on the place where text should display, some texts may display but icons would not. This problem affects my life qualify, thus I need to make clear where it is the problem. GTK4? Libadwaita? Graphics? Ubuntu? Because problems does not occur on GTK3 based apps, thus I can submit this issue in Firefox. I tried to open GNOME Calendar and use journalctl to capture logs Apr 26 09:02:00 amber-XiaoXinPro-14-ARP8 gnome-calendar[4462]: gcal_range_union: assertion 'a != NULL' failed Apr 26 09:02:00 amber-XiaoXinPro-14-ARP8 gnome-calendar[4462]: gcal_range_contains_datetime: assertion 'self' failed Apr 26 09:02:00 amber-XiaoXinPro-14-ARP8 gnome-calendar[4462]: Unable to bind the same property on the same instance Apr 26 09:02:00 amber-XiaoXinPro-14-ARP8 dbus-daemon[898]: [system] Activating via systemd: service name='org.freedesktop.GeoClue2' unit='geoclue.service' requested by ':1.103' (uid=1000 pid=4462 comm="/usr/bin/gnome-calendar --gapplication-service" label="unconfined") Apr 26 09:02:00 amber-XiaoXinPro-14-ARP8 systemd[1]: Starting geoclue.service - Location Lookup Service...
