[Bug 1616332] Re: gnome-software using hundreds of MB of memory when not in use
Ubuntu 23.10 still has this problem. Without actually using the app I saw an RSS of 600MB on my AMD64 desktop, measured using `sudo smem -tk`. After a reboot (still without opening the app manually) I see a steady 300MB RSS. It's the heaviest app in use on my desktop after Firefox. While keeping Flatpaks and Snaps up-to-date is great, perhaps it could exit after having done that? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1616332 Title: gnome-software using hundreds of MB of memory when not in use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-software/+bug/1616332/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 2020803] Re: logging in at the lock screen causes the system to log me out and start over.
AND IT'S BACK!! Just for context, I've had an ongoing issue where icons in the tray (dropbox, keybase, etc) aren't showing up. Pre-Lobster, I'd installed Extensions manager to see if ti fixed it (kind of, but not really). Last night the icons were being wonky so I uninstalled Ext. [Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
I think I am having a related problem, Ubuntu 20.10 with all updates installed, nvidia-driver-418-server driver. Lenovo W540 i7-4810MQ Nvidia K2100M + Intel HD 4600 Built-in display 2880x1620 native External display 1920x1080 native I want to set 200% scaling on the built-in display and 100% on the external display, but this is not possible. I can set 100% or 200% for both displays: - 100%: external display looks fine, built-in display too small - 200%: built-in display looks fine, external display too large If I enable fractional scaling then I can set different scaling for each display. The size of everything now looks good on both displays, but every second pixel on the external display looks blurry at 100%. This is particularly noticeable when moving the I-bar cursor of the mouse horizontally over text. This is not the case when fractional scaling is not enabled, so I think it is rendering the external display at double the resolution and scaling down with an inappropriate algorithm. How can I set different scaling on different displays without enabling fractional scaling? I wasn't able to try nightwing666's solution because /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-modeset.conf does not exist for me, but `sudo cat /sys/module/nvidia_drm/parameters/modeset` returns Y so I think it is enabled anyway. It's a relatively old GPU and the nvidia site claims 340 is the right driver to use, but Ubuntu offered drivers up to 418 so I am using that. I don't mind using the intel GPU, some other driver or figuring out GPU switching, I just want it to work. An apparently simpler way to add an email list is to double-click on the name of the Contact List, and enter the email in the box labeled Type an e-mail address or drag a Contact into the list below: When I add an email addres this way, it appears to add correctly. But when I re-open the Contact List, I see an entry that consists of garbage characters. If I try to send an email to such an email list, I get an error message. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155460 Title: Problem adding email addresses to Contact List To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1155460/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 871985] Re: The printing panel shouldn't display errors about firewalld not running
Considering how this patch made it into Gnome without noticing the distro specific requirements, especially noting these lines that should have raised a red flag or at least an eyebrow: +#define FIREWALLD_BUS org.fedoraproject.FirewallD +#define FIREWALLD_PATH /org/fedoraproject/FirewallD +#define FIREWALLD_IFACE org.fedoraproject.FirewallD I'd say complaining to GNOME devs probably won't make much difference. I know no one's perfect, but I wold have thought that their patches underwent a little more scrutiny and required some level of review before inclusion. [Bug 871985] Re: The printing panel shouldn't display errors about firewalld not running
To add the printer log into another desktop environment, even Unity works. Once the printer is added it will work in Gnome 3. But as far as I know you can't do it in Gnome 3 itself. As far as a fix goes, my own interpretation doesn't leave me feeling confident that it will get fixed by Gnome devs any time soon but rather will have to wait until some future release, so maybe someone can create a replacement applet, or the Ubuntu devs can create a patched package that removes this . -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871985 Title: The printing panel shouldn't display errors about firewalld not running To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/871985/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 871985] [NEW] Using Gnome control panel to add a network printer now requires FirewallD
Public bug reported: It appears a patch was added to Gnome back in July that requires FirewallD to be running in order to add a network printer. see: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2011-July/msg09761.html This only appears to affect those using the Gnome 3 desktop environment, and this problem is not present in Unity, so you can still add the pinter in Unity's control panel, but users wanting to use Gnome will encounter this. The specific error message is: FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns, ipp, ipp-client and samba-client enabled on firewall. The documentation in the mentioned patch suggests this behavior is actually intentional. However, FirewallD is, as far as I know, specific to Fedora. 1) release: Ubuntu Oneiric Beta 2 (64 bit, but others likely to be affected) 2) issue is more specific to the Gnome 3 desktop environment as a whole, although there may be individual packages that can be patched to circumvent this behavior 3) I expected the previous behavior of being able to add a network printer without having a package that does not even exist for Ubuntu 4) I got this nice error message that tells me FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns, ipp, ipp-client and samba-client enabled on firewall. As far as a solution goes, a documented work-around may be a good idea (such as an FAQ entry that says simply to install the network printer in Unity), at least until a more permanent solution can be found. This is bug was originally asked as a question here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- nettool/+question/173836 but it was suggested that a bug report be submitted instead. [Bug 755283] Re: plain text in shortcuts prevent typing that character in terminal.
Start Menu Accessories Terminal When terminal has started and prompt is displayed, type 'u' with or without the quotes. The main menu line at the top of the terminal window will toggle between display and hide each time the lower case u is pressed. When the menu line at the top of terminal is visible, click on View. The top entry is Show Menubar and the keyboard shortcut shown at the right side of the menu display is a U which is shown in upper case. However I find that upper case U does not have this effect, only the lower case u toggles the menu. On the menu bar click Edit, click Keyboard shortcuts. Deselect Enable menu access keys. Click Close. The words on the menu bar show no underlines. Type u. Menu no longer displays. Type u. Menu re-displays. Click Edit, click Keyboard shortcuts. Enable menu access keys. Click Close. Hold alt, press v, release alt, press m. The menu no longer displays. Repeat alt-v ... nothing happens. Type u and the menu bar displays. Let's try to change the shortcut for menubar (currently u) to ctrl+alt+u (ctrl and ctrl+shift are already in use). Alt e k. Scroll in shortcut keys to view hide and show menubar, key U (which ought be u but let's not get too fussy - though if you can make such a change for all letters to which it is relevant, that would not be a bad thing to do). The Gnome Terminal help file states Viewing the Keyboard Shortcut Settings but of course I want to change them. There is no 'button' for doing so. Right click in the line. Nothing. Left click. Nothing. Click all along the line (you can see I'm trying to be thorough!) !@#$%^* Oh my! Single click on the shortcut key character (in this case the U) and the words New accelerator are shown. Hold down the ctrl and alt and type u. The display changes to Ctrl+Alt+U - success! Okay. The action required so that the bug can be marked 'fixed' is to amend the documentation so that in Section 3.5, under Shortcut Keys, there is an additional section called Changing Shortcut Keys which contains the instruction left-click on the shortcut key value that you want to change. Type the new key value to be used, including control, alt and shift keys as required. The new key or key combination will display. Click Close. That, in my view, is the simplest, easiest, and most effective fix required. Thank you for your support.
