[Bug 1308800] Re: Unity doesn't respawn all the times on crashes
It is now a year since this bug was marked Critical, but it keeps being postponed. I think this was part of the cause of an embarrassing experience during my recent presentation to a Linux Users Group, where Unity went away twice, forcing me to reboot the first time, and borrow a (gasp!) Apple computer the second time to finish the presentation. What is the status of the overall fix? What is the story with the fix released aspect of this for gnome-session? Was that just one aspect of the fix? When it is fixed, will it be backported to Trusty? Thanks! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308800 Title: Unity doesn't respawn all the times on crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1308800/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1393463] [NEW] image description / title should be visible via shotwell viewer
Public bug reported: When I run from the command line shotwell /tmp/river-300x224_a.jpg or when an image is viewed in shotwell via the nautilus file manager, there is no way to see the description of the image (EXIF Description tag). I can only get a tiny bit of other metadata, e.g. via menu Photo/Adjust date and time. Going to the help via F1 and searching for the standard EXIF name: Description, yields No matching help pages found in “Shotwell”. Eventually I found that I should search for Title, which told me: The View ▸ Titles checkbox toggles the display of titles beneath each photo. By default, a photo's title is its filename. To change a photo's title, select the photo and click Photos ▸ Edit Title, or press F2. But there is no View / Titles entry in the menu. A web search finally led me to the explanation on askubuntu: http://askubuntu.com/questions/312867/how-to-add-metadata-to-images- using-shotwell Which says viewing the description is only available in Shotwell itself, not in 'Shotwell photo viewer'. I had no idea that I was not using shotwell itself or that there were these different interfaces to the same software. Viewing descriptions / titles should be provided in the viewer also. As described by the Library of Congress at Adding Descriptions to Digital Photos http://blogs.loc.gov/digitalpreservation/2011/10/mission-possible-an-easy-way-to-add-descriptions-to-digital-photos/ it is a really important, basic feature to see and add a description to a photo. Photos without descriptions are missing critical information that should be easily available to users of the image, and it should be easy to change. At the least, the menu item should appear and be grayed out, and this should be explained in the documentation. It is very confusing to have the documentation list an option which isn't there. [Bug 421537] Re: need a way to rotate video playback
Note that the new rotation plugin landed in Totem version 3.1.4 or so, which seems to have made it to Ubuntu around 13.04 Raring. It has to be manually enabled, and then rotation applied manually. But rotation is not yet automatic, and I think that when a video has metadata indicating the need for rotation (e.g. the EXIF Rotation tag), the rotation should be automatic, as it is with some other viewers. [Bug 728525] Re: benchmark window is not descriptive enough
Update: based on the description and screenshot at http://karuppuswamy.com/wordpress/2010/09/21/benchmark-how-to-know-your- hard-disk-speed/ it appears that if you do ask to proceed with a write- only check, if it then notices that there is a partition table, it refuses to do the write test. So at least users aren't at risk, but it would be much more helpful if this policy was clarified on the page, and this information was given as soon as the user clicks on the initial write-test button. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728525 Title: benchmark window is not descriptive enough To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/728525/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 794929] Re: Disk Utility benchmark, x-axis undefined
My guess is that for the hard-to-see zig-zag line, the x-axis represents disk addresses from 0% (beginning of the disk) to 100% (last block on the disk), not time. The y-axis for that line is on the right, in milliseconds. It seems to be a continuous trace of (%-of-disk, seek time) points, all linked together in a chain, chronologically. This contrasts with the left-hand y-axis which is in MB/s and applies to the blue line across the top. I agree that the x-axis percentages in that case refer to time: the percent of the test period for each point. Rather odd, I agree. The data points for the most recent benchmark of each disk are cached in ~/.cache/gnome-disk-utility/drive-benchmark/* The text should explain this, and in addition, the axes should use the same color as the lines. My other suggestion is to change the colors used for the zig-zag line. I'm red-green colorblind and find it nearly impossible to see them. Note: I also wish those benchmarks were archived, not just cached. See a related request for that at How can I log my SSD's read performance over time? - Ask Ubuntu - Stack Exchange http://askubuntu.com/questions/8279/how-can-i-log-my-ssds-read-performance-over-time Note also that the name of the gnome-disk-utility executable is palimpsest. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794929 Title: Disk Utility benchmark, x-axis undefined To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/794929/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 728525] Re: benchmark window is not descriptive enough
I can confirm the first aspect of the bug for Natty - there is an are you sure confirmation dialog about doing a read-write test, but no hint as to whether it is destructive, or how it would manage to avoid overwriting real files. [Bug 239504] [NEW] tooltip not working right in baobab treemap view
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-utils When viewing the treemap for a directory, the tooltip that I get when hovering over a rectangle always shows the same thing, rather than showing the full path name of the directory represented by the rectangle. I'm running Hardy, and baobab 2.20.0.1. Steps to reproduce: run baobab from a shell. Select scan folder, enter /var, Notice that tooltips on the rings chart show you the name of the directory you're looking at. Now in the left pane with the list of directories, click the right mouse button on the lib directory and choose Graphical Usage Map to get the treemap view. In that view, notice that the tooltips always say /var/lib, so they are of no help in indicating which are the largest directories. I think this worked before, so I think this is a regression.
