[Bug 1877135] Re: Failed to start Virtual filesystem service - Apple File Conduit monitor [libusbmuxd.so.4 not found]

2021-01-04 Thread Ricardo Graça
If anyone is wondering what "properly removing it" actually means it's
just literally rm /usr/local/lib/libimobiledevice.so.6. Don't worry
since there should already be a similar system library in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/.

I also noticed there were other files with names starting with
libimobiledevice.so.* in the same /usr/local/lib directory so I also
removed them.

For the record I tried to do a make uninstall from the source directory
thinking that was the "proper way" but that didn't help.

[Bug 1861310] [NEW] Overlay with shortcut numbers not showing on dock

2020-01-29 Thread Ricardo Abreu
Public bug reported:

The dock no longer shows the overlay with digits corresponding to
shortcuts to launch apps (with ). It stopped appearing after I
upgraded to Eoan.

The numbers are show neither with q nor by holding .
Unlike #1846718, no overlay appears when hitting +0 either (or
some other number), although the corresponding item is launched/focused.

I have tried changing a number of things in org.gnome.shell.extensions
.dash-to-dock, including setting hot-keys to false, as advised
[here](https://askubuntu.com/questions/1082772/keyboard-shortcut-for-
launching-application-from-dock-in-ubuntu-18). Alas, I couldn't make it
work.

Not sure if it matters, but this is the second upgrade (install was on
Cosmic originally). Here is the output of some commands that may be

[Bug 1759681] Re: package gconf2 3.2.6-4ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned

2018-03-29 Thread Ricardo Almeida
I upgraded from Ubuntu 17.10 to 18.04 and it failed in the process
(because of cinnamon-common bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon/+bug/1759127, I
think). I manage to have all packages upgraded in the end, although
cinnamon fails to start (different issue, I would say, just letting you
know as it could be the thing that made the crash dialog showed up
later)...

When I logged in Gnome, I did some more upgrades, and I got a few
appreport crashes dialogs, so I just submit the info it asked me too...

[Bug 1443178] [NEW] Accounts Service always relies on language fallback if never set by the user

2015-04-12 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

current build number: 169
device name: mako
channel: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed
alias: ubuntu-touch/vivid-proposed
last update: 2015-04-12 20:38:14
version version: 169
version ubuntu: 20150412
version device: 20150210
version custom: 20150412

This causes a bad side effect when changing volume via indicator-sound,
as that will cause a sync to accountsservice in order to sync the
volume. Once that sync happens, it will request the user properties, and
in case the user doesn't have a valid language at
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/user, it will always rely on the
fallback, which would be fine if calculating the fallback wasn't 't so
cpu or i/o intensive (and that happens multiple times).

As a test, just flash latest vivid image on mako, don't set any language
when the wizard shows up, run top and then change the volume by pressing
volume up/down. This is what I see with mako:

 PID USER  PR  NIVIRTRESSHR S  %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
2609 phablet   20   0  499660 121220  52688 S   7.6  6.5   0:41.69 unity8
5600 phablet   20   03676   1760   1288 R   6.0  0.1   0:00.19
language-option
1312 root  20   0  211532  15572  11344 S   1.9  0.8   0:07.25
unity-system-co
1316 phablet   20   0   36532   3792   2928 S   1.3  0.2   0:01.66
accounts-daemon

And the reason why:
src/user.c
...
static void
user_get_property (GObject*object,
   guint   param_id,
   GValue *value,
   GParamSpec *pspec)
{
User *user = USER (object);
...
case PROP_LANGUAGE:
if (user-language)
g_value_set_string (value, user-language);
else
g_value_set_string (value, user_get_fallback_value
(user, Language));
break;
case PROP_FORMATS_LOCALE:
if (user-formats_locale)
g_value_set_string (value, user-formats_locale);
else
g_value_set_string (value, user_get_fallback_value
(user, FormatsLocale));
break;

user_set_property never gets called unless the user changes the system
language from system-settings or wizard.

Once you change the language, it will set a valid language at
/var/lib/AccountsService/users/user, causing this behavior to stop.

Another bad side effect of this issue is that it takes quite a while for
accountsservice to reply back to indicator-sound when the sync happens,
possibly causing sync aborts (as indicator-sound only waits 1 second
before triggering another sync).

Some possible ways to fix this issue:
1) Make wizard to set language even when the selected language is already the
default one;
2) Change accountsservice to save the fallback value at the first time it gets
that from the system;

[Bug 1440852] [NEW] Need a way to tell our userspace if GPS is currently active or not

2015-04-06 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

As a result of bug 1434379, QA wanted to check if there could be a way
(cmdline/API) to know, from the location-service itself, when the GPS
hardware is active or not.

Basically the only reliable way to know that is by checking
/system/bin/logcat, and retrieving the GPS HAL logs.

Having such call could allow us to create regression tests that could
check for bug 1434379 (and similar ones).

[Bug 1418033] Re: Location service should stop updates for sessions that have been identified as stale (sigstop'd) and gone

2015-02-17 Thread Ricardo Salveti
** Summary changed:

- Location service should stop updates for sessions that have been identified
as stale (sigstop'd)
+ Location service should stop updates for sessions that have been identified
as stale (sigstop'd) and gone

** Description changed:

- The heuristic might be as simple as:
+ current build number: 237
+ device name: krillin
+ channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
+ last update: 2015-02-17 17:04:34
+ version version: 237
+ version ubuntu: 20150217
+ version device: 20150216-fe747ac
+ version custom: 20150207-538-29-183

- If providing updates to clients fails more than 10 times, stop all
- updates.
+ Location service stays active when a client app is sigstopped and closed
+ by the user.
+
+ To reproduce:
+ 1 - Reboot the phone;
+ 2 - Run logcat as root: $ sudo /system/bin/logcat
+ 3 - Open HERE maps;
+ 4 - Wait for it to get a location lock (and also see that you should be
getting quite a few messages in logcat, all gps related)
+ 5 - Move the app to background (and wait at least 3 seconds for it to get
sigstopped);
+ 6 - Close the app;
+
+ From logcat's output you should see that GPS will still be active, while
+ it shouldn't, as the client is gone.
+
+ It also shouldn't stay active when the app is in background, but that is
+ covered by bug 1422889.

[Bug 1422879] Re: GPS stays active after location data is used by a scope (even after not not using the scopes anymore)

2015-02-17 Thread Ricardo Mendoza
From looking at the unity-scopes-shell code for the location provider,
it seems like there is no direct correlation with the client request and
the active location lookup service side. The request seems to be
continuous and always on, is this is so, then we have a problem as this
means the GPS hardware is active and signalling even though the user is
not interested in location data at the moment.

[Bug 1422889] [NEW] GPS stays active when browser related apps (e.g. HERE) are sigstopped

2015-02-17 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

current build number: 237
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
last update: 2015-02-17 17:04:34
version version: 237
version ubuntu: 20150217
version device: 20150216-fe747ac
version custom: 20150207-538-29-183

Using location-service and qtubuntu-sensors from
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu-rtm/landing-009
location-service2.1+15.04.20150213~rtm-0ubuntu1
qtubuntu-sensors0.6+15.04.20150216~rtm-0ubuntu1

To reproduce:
1 - Reboot the phone;
2 - Run logcat as root: sudo /system/bin/logcat
3 - Open the HERE app (or any other website that uses location, such as google
maps) and wait for it to get the location data
4 - Move the app to the background;
5 - Check logcat and see that GPS is still active;

After closing the app the GPS hardware is disabled though.

[Bug 1422879] [NEW] GPS stays active after location data is used by a scope (even after not not using the scopes anymore)

2015-02-17 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ system-image-cli -i
current build number: 237
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
last update: 2015-02-17 17:04:34

version ubuntu: 20150217
version device: 20150216-fe747ac
version custom: 20150207-538-29-183

You can easily see if the GPS is active or not by checking the logcat
output (running as root). In this case the hardware remains on (consumed
by the location-service) after opening a scope such as the weather
channel one, and retrieving location.

To reproduce:
1 - Reboot the phone;
2 - Open logcat as root: sudo /system/bin/logcat
3 - From today's scope, click on the weather icon (opening the weather channel
scopes)
4 - See that the GPS is active and location works as expected
5 - Move away from that scope, and check logcat's output (it will stay active,
meaning that the location-service is still active).

I'm not sure this bug's causes are the same as that bug (#1263205),
because there it says the problem is caused by installing a GTK3 library
from 14.04, and in my case I haven't installed that library or Gnome

[Bug 1246734] Re: [Gimp] Save/Export only works in HUD, not in file dialog

2013-12-20 Thread Ricardo Graça
I can't reproduce with the exact steps you describe, but I'm also
affected by the save options being greyed out sometimes. So far it seems
to be somewhat random so steps to reproduce are difficult to explain.
This usually causes problems in my case:

1. Open a png image through the right-click menu on Nautilus
2. (It will probably succeed the first time)
3. Close Gimp
4. Re-open the png image through the right-click menu on Nautilus

At this point I'm usually left with all the save options greyed out
except for the Overwrite image.png option. I can also confirm that
using the HUD allows me to access all the options that are greyed out in
the menu.

[Bug 1248316] Re: Keyboard shortcuts for workspace switching lost after upgrades

2013-11-09 Thread Ricardo Graça
I'm not sure it's upgrades that cause this issue, because I'm also
experiencing loss of custom keyboard shortcuts. I think the reverting of
keyboard shortcuts back to their default values happens at every reboot,
although I think it doesn't always happen.

[Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2013-10-22 Thread Ricardo Graça
Actually there is no need to minimize the original Nautilus window to
reproduce this bug. All it takes is the Nautilus window loosing focus,
e.g. when changing to another application and then attempting to get
back to the Nautilus window showing an external drive.

[Bug 405340] Re: Conky background uses gtk_color_scheme's window background color, at random

2012-11-20 Thread Ricardo Vizcaya
This happens to me in 12.10 as well. The background changes to light-
grey randomly and then changes back to transparent after a while. I
will try to see if there is a pattern in these changes not to call them
random any more!

[Bug 405340] Re: Conky background uses gtk_color_scheme's window background color, at random

2012-11-20 Thread Ricardo Vizcaya
Not mentioning it is a bit hard to start conky up correctly (I have the
famous run after x seconds bash script so it doesn't appear on top of
everything), the background problem appears on opening Nautilus the
first time. I still haven't figured out how to make it disappear by
itself, so what I have to do is pkill conky and and start it again.

[Bug 1029165] [NEW] Settings window too big if there's an error message in a plugin

2012-07-25 Thread Ricardo Graça
Public bug reported:

If, for some reason, there's an error message in one of the plugins, the
settings window is expanded so that the whole message string is visible. I
attached two pictures showing this problem. You can see that the problem is in
the plugins tab. The error message seems to be in the Youtube plugin (? Hard to
tell as it's just a green arrow). This probably requires some special
conditions so it may not be all that easy to reproduce.
I have a portuguese (from Portugal) Google Apps account that I have entered in
the Online Accounts dialog window (through Empathy). In Portugal the youtube
service isn't available to users of Google Apps yet, so that's what the error
message is saying. I usually see that message in the web browser if I try to
login to youtube with my Google Apps account.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Have a Google Apps account in a country that doesn't support youtube service
yet
2) Open Shotwell
3) Go to menu Edit - Settings

Expected results:
The settings window isn't stretched beyond the screen's boundaries

Actual results:
The settings window is expanded horizontally beyond the screen's boundaries so
that an error message is visible in the plugins tab

[Bug 995053] Re: Drag Drop to PCManFM window causes system crash

2012-05-16 Thread João Ricardo Lourenço
If you switch to a terminal and kill file-roller or if you manage to
alt-tab into a terminal (even tough it doesn't become the top window),
then you can also kill file-roller. In both cases, your mouse will get
back. At least that's what happens with me (I got here looking for more
info on this bug).

[Bug 947104] [NEW] Nautilus 'Open With Text Editor' option takes 2 tries to work

2012-03-05 Thread Ricardo N Feliciano
Public bug reported:

Issue happens when a new Nautilus window is open. If one or more text
files are selected, I right click, click on 'Open With Text Editor', and
nothing happens. I have to then repeat the process a second time to get
the files opened in Gedit.

I'm not sure if this is a Nautilus issue, or a Gedit issue, because the
context menu options for the Image Previewer and other programs work,
just not the 'Open With Text Editor' option.

I know this isn't a complete backtrace because I see lots of ?? in

use the script that retrieves the dependencies while the program is

[Bug 885913] [NEW] Arrow keys navigation broken since upgrade to 11.10

2011-11-03 Thread Ricardo Graça
Public bug reported:

Since the upgrade of Ubuntu from 11.04 to 11.10, navigating with the
arrow keys in nautilus has become much harder than it used to be since
it's no longer possible to use the right/left keys to navigate through
all the files. E.g. in icon view when selecting the first file in a row
and pressing the right arrow to go through all the files in that row,
when the last file in the row is selected, pressing right arrow key
again doesn't select the first file in the bottom row.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Set nautilus to icon view
2) Open a folder with enough files to display several rows of icons
3) Select the top left icon in the navigation panel
4) Press and hold the right arrow key

Expected results:
- Upon reaching the last icon in the row, the selection advances to the
leftmost icon in the row below the current one

Actual results:
- The selection is stuck on the rightmost icon of the current row

This causes great unnecessary effort to select files sequentially, as
now I have to press down when reaching the last icon in a row, and then
press the left key a great number of times, or keep it pressed.

[Bug 883942] [NEW] With two panels can't click on breadcrumb navigation buttons on inactive panel

2011-10-30 Thread Ricardo Graça
Public bug reported:

When opening a second panel in Nautilus it's not possible to click on
the breadcrumb navigation buttons on the inactive panel. This means that
if I want to navigate to another location in the scondary panel I have
to click somewhere on the navigation area of the inactive panel first
and only then can I click on the breadcrumb buttons.

Steps to repdroduce:
1) Open a second panel (F3)
2) Click on a breadcrumb navigation button on the newly opened (and inactive)
panel

Expected results:
- The contents of the inactive panel's navigation area change to reflect the
new location and the clicked panel becomes active

Actual results:
- The breadcrumb buttons don't respond to clicks and thus the panel continues
to be inactive and its location remains the same

[Bug 676828] Re: Contacts does not show up in empathy contact list

2011-10-16 Thread Ricardo
It seems that most jabber clients are having troubles getting the
contact list from GTalk. So, probably is Google's fault. Here gives some
info:

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/chat/thread?tid=4934204c7dcf90f4

Extracted from that link:

Google has changed the way to send/retrieve contact list. Now it sends
contacts with: ros:query xmlns:ros=jabber:iq:roster/, but should do
this with: query xmlns=jabber:iq:roster / which is an XMPP standard.
I really don't know why they've changed this...
