[Bug 295754] Re: Rearranging External Tools erases tool data

2008-11-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
4. a screenshot of the window you're seeing.
Thanks!

[Bug 201291] Re: Add ogv (video) and oga (audio) as recognized extension for Ogg Theora and Ogg Vorbis, respectively

2008-11-10 Thread Jeldert
Audacity 1.3.5 gives a warning when opening an .oga file. It says:

Audacity had to make a guess at the type of file. The Audio may be bogus.
If the audio is bogus, try renaming the file so that it has the correct
extension before opening it.

Also, when saving Audacity complains that Ogg Vorbis files normally end
in .ogg.

Please note that the first warning (bogus audio) does not occur with
Audacity 1.3.6, but the second warning is still present.

2008-11-10 Thread Larry Hartman
I did some checking on a fresh install of Intrepid, discovered this file
with incorrect line as reported above and made the change. I don't
think it made any practical difference since I am running KDM.

In /etc/ati/authatieventsd.sh change this line:
   XDM_AUTH_MASK=/var/lib/xdm/authdir/authfiles/A$1*

to:
   XDM_AUTH_MASK=/var/run/xauth/A$1*

I am able to switch sessions but am experiencing problems setting up

[Bug 296422] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when dragging file to ftp bookmark

2008-11-10 Thread Pablos544
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Scenario 1: i am dragging a file from one of my home directories to a
bookmarked ftp destination on the sidebar. Nautilus's main window
disppears with just a small note on the task-bar saying 'Starting ftp'.
Several seconds later the task-bar entry disappears and so does
Nautilus. I happen to know this ftp server is unresponsive every few
requests but Nautilus is also unresponsive during this time and there's
no dialog confirming what it's doing that i can 'quit' out of or
'cancel'. Sometimes i get an error saying 'Error copying this file,
Retry or Skip' but more often than not i i have to brute-force restart
Nautilus and navigate back to where i started and do the thing again.
Also during this time i cannot do any other operations that involve
Nautilus.

Scenario 2: i save a local file in my editor and navigate to Nautilus
which is in the middle of redrawing some files listed in the main
window. Working fast i quickly drag a file over to the same bookmarked
ftp location sidebar still during Nautilus redrawing and as soon as i
release the mouse button Nautilus has disappeared.

This is a bit crippling as i'm working on PHP scripts that are
complicated to debug and am losing time waiting for Nautilus to respond
and having to manually restart each time this is happening.

Obviously i appreciate i should be smart and set-up my PHP scripts
locally to avoiding FTP bottlenecks but time i can't afford at the
moment.

I would appreciate any help!! :)

[Bug 118605] Re: [fglrx] freezes upon Logout or Switch user [patch]

2008-11-10 Thread Robert Bernecky
1. I'm running gnome.

2. I think I installed dual-head this way:

 - normal install of 8.10 release
 - System/Administration/Hardware Drivers: enable ATI drivers.

3. At this point, I think the system claims that a reboot is needed.
I'm not sure if that is the case...

4. I was NOT able to set up dual-head support using the expected
(Well, it was expected by me, anyway...) System/Preferences/Screen
Resolution support.

5. I WAS able to set up dual-head support using Applications/Accessories/ATI
Catalyst Control Center

6. I'll have a look at /etc/ati/authatieventsd.s and see if I can puzzle my way
through it for gnome.

[Bug 296425] [NEW] Show podcast summary on a tooltip

2008-11-10 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I recently subscribed to this podcast using rhythmbox,

http://feeds.feedburner.com/ultimonivel

If you check the link with firefox, you'll see that every entry has an
accompanying text summarizing what the podcast is about. That would be a
nice piece of info to show on a tooltip when hovering the mouse over the
podcast in RB, since based on that you might decide you don't want to
listen to that specific podcast, even if you do like the provider.

[Bug 296422] Re: Nautilus crashes when dragging file to ftp bookmark

2008-11-10 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be
dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Re: [Bug 295442] Re: Nautilus/file browser freezing at home, user and root folders

2008-11-10 Thread Ron fronm MD
Like everything else I run into in linux there is the assumption on that
wiki page that I know where to do what they say to do. Clear as mud. Do
not make the assumption I know where to do things..most normal
people would start with Open X, do Y, send file Z to this
address/attach to your bug report, etc. You at least got the part about
where I send the report. The wiki page does not tell me where to do what
it says to do nor which of several to do's I should be
doing.I'm guessing the Xorg widget since Xorg is the related
process.

One HUGE turnoff for Windows users trying to migrate to linux is the
blanket assumption by linux types we know where to do things or can read
shorthand like go to ~/.wine instead of saying to a new user go to
~/.wine, ~ means root folder, linux people assume everyone just
automatically knows that as soon as linux boots.

I really would like to help but people continuing to assume I know how
and where to do things is seriously starting to tick me off. Start at
the beginning with step 1, not the second, third or fourth step. Also
learn to index the documentation, wading through page after page, after
page of stuff I do not need to know is pointless, being able to find in
a proper index the subject I want to learn about is the way to get me to
read stuff.

[Bug 296440] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon wastes RAM and SWAP

2008-11-10 Thread Dengar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Greetings,

I've been testing Jaunty for a few days now. Yesterday I discovered
quite an annoying bug: Immediatly after being started, gnome-settings-
daemon starts to fill RAM and SWAP with useless stuff, as I suppose.

Starting at using 8 MiB or so it will slowly occupy more and more RAM
(around 1 MiB/s) and eventually use all my free RAM and afterwards my
SWAP partition which makes the system unusable after an hour.

I already purged und reinstalled the package containing the daemon but
this didn't help at all. Stopping the daemon eliminates the problem but
makes GNOME look quite ugly.

I'd love to give you guys more information, but starting it from
terminal didn't give me any output.

That's the latest version before uvcvideo was included in mainline kernel

If it fixes the issue it's just one more evidence that Cheese is not
involved at all with this thing and it is a driver/kernel fault only.
There were many changes in webcam drivers with 2.27 kernels, it is likely
that some regression went in too.

It may be the case that Cheese makes correct use of the API, in a way most
other applications don't use the API, and that uvcvideo breaks when used
this way.

But in any case, this is very much Cheese related in the sense that the
camera works with kopete, skype, and gstreamer (before starting Cheese) but
not with Cheese.

[Bug 255008] Re: Up arrow key mapped to Print [screen]

2008-11-10 Thread frankie
Hi. I tried everything listed in the comments before but I'm still unable to
use some keys. Arrow down and Page UP
won't work. Thou arrow up and page down do.

I tried different things in xorg.conf: no keyboard entry, keyboad evdev and
keyboard as it was with hardy. I didn't see a
different behaviour after restarting.

I made sure I don't have any imwheel package nore daemon. I also removed
all compiz packages.

I also tried to run:
setxkbmap -model evdev -layout es -option lv3:ralt_switch

and this:

  gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard

I blacklisted the evdev module but then I had no mouse nor keyboard, so
I removed that entry there.

apt-cache policy xserver-xorgx server-xorg-input-evdev

Currently xorg.conf entries for keyboard and mouse are commented.

$ setxkbmap -print

xkb_types { include complete  };
xkb_compat{ include complete  };

Any help would be appreciated, missing arrow down is hard for me.

[Bug 290543] Re: Can't toggle audio recording for devices in Volume Control applet to 'on' state

2008-11-10 Thread Bernhard Froehler
I see the same faulty behaviour in gnome-volume-control, meaning the Toggle
audio recording from Capture always is off (the state with the white X on red
ground on it) when opening the window.
I can't reproduce it right now, but it seemed like the state of that setting
had some effect as to whether I could record something on my system or not, one
or two hours ago today. But after also playing around a little with alsamixer,
the microphone now always works, regardless of this setting.

In all cases, the attachment icons are missing from the attachment area

the adjacent area for icons is blank. Meanwhile, the attachment buttons

At least one of the invisible icons is (image/jpeg) remains invisible

not the pop-up message window.
