For compiler warning defaults, I think something similar what Dan
Winship has in libsoup is what we should replicate across more GNOME
modules:

It's better than the GNOME_COMPILE_WARNINGS macro in gnome-common right
now, and *definitely* better than various modules having -Wall -Werror.

Is there some problem in fixing that macro? It would instantly fix
dozens of modules (over 50 according to a quick grep).

Sure, I'm fine with that myself. Let's see if anyone has objections, if
not I'll try a test build and see if anything needs fixing.

Not everything uses GNOME_COMPILE_WARNINGS, but that's not a big deal -
my main goal here is to in order:

Furthermore, is there any reason why modules shouldn't be using
GNOME_COMPILE_WARNINGS? It would be great if we could standardise on
using it so that we can guarantee that the classes of bugs it detects
are highlighted (and perhaps eventually eliminated) in GNOME code.

 Philip

If module is using Vala probably warnings are useless for code generated
by the compiler.

I think in summary you say the following:
- Not tested yet by wide audience
   meaning: development versions of distros
well, you can reverse the question, who tested it. Does it represent a
small subset of a big one of the GNOME userbase?

- Don't want gstreamer 0.10 and 1.0 on one cd
meaning: fine if some stuff still uses 0.10, as long as it is not on
the cd. I don't see something like Sushi being a problem.
right, Ubuntu as a distributor doesn't want to have to ship and support
two stacks of gstreamer packages on our default installation, it would
probably be better for GNOME as well to use only one.

You forgot one the availability of codecs distributors and users rely
on for gstreamer1

Can you add anything that is on your live cd and uses gstreamer to
this list (if it isn't there yet) ?

Editing the wiki doesn't seem to work for me at the moment I get a
TextCha: Wrong answer! Go back and try again... every time I try to
commit the changes

I will try again later

Things I listed:

bluez
libreoffice
gnome-media (gnome-sound-recorder is still useful)
libgnome-media-profiles (gnome-media build-depends on it)
libdmapsharing (rhythmbox uses it)
pidgin (empathy uses libpurple for non jabber accounts)

Cheers,
