After grepping this seems to happen in:

- A couple of places in the License section in About:
- the .pc file.

I don't think this is a 3.4 blocker, unless it's somewhat critical
that the license says GNOME Web Browser. I don't think it is since
already before our name was Epiphany and we didn't use that there,
so we have been inconsistent for a while.

Someone also complained that saying The Web developers in our About
copyright section is potentially confusing, which I think is a fair
point (see https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=671831). I think
changing that to say The GNOME Web developers might be worth of the
string break, but not for the rest.

From an i18n point I can only say that this sounds more like people of
the GNOME project doing web development instead of people creating a
GNOME web browser. So this is still highly confusing. We do you push it
so hard to avoid the term browser? Browser has been used by non-tech
people for a couple of years now.

for scientific honesty, this video is of course not a proof that most

Not saying that they know, though.

Yeah, but how many of those people are going to go to an About
dialog. And if they do, are they really going to be any less
confused by The GNOME Web developers? That sounds to me like
the people who work on gnome.org. I wouldn't count on a stray
capital letter to convey semantic information.

Taking this just a bit further, I understand the reasoning behind
debranding the core apps. GNOME is the brand, and it just comes
with all this awesome stuff built in. But I do think it's going
to make it harder for people to use Google as a support tool.

So I entered firefox problem into Google to see its autocomplete
suggestions, then s/firefox/gnome web/. Are these search phrases
likely to produce helpful results?

gnome web problem loading page
gnome web problem with facebook
gnome web problem with flash

Just something to chew on.

Last GNOME 3.4 Blocker Report

2012-03-19 Thread Andre Klapper
GNOME 3.4.0 will be released in one week.
Later today is HARD CODE FREEZE (but you can always ask the release-team
for exceptions).

This is a list of potential release blockers plus some should-fix
tickets.

This list is not necessarily complete. Feedback, updates, help from
packagers, developers, maintainers, contributors, etc. is welcome.

Please do speak up if some important bugs are not listed here.

Some change in GTK+ introspection broke the python bindings, and require
an incompatible change there. Martin suggests to revert that change.
