Re: [VOTE] Hama 0.6.3 Release

2013-09-09 Thread Tommaso Teofili
as just commented on HA;A-594 I think semi clustering stuff should live in
the machine learning module instead of the examples one
(except SemiClusterJobDriver), so I'd like to the refactoring and release
with those changes too.

I just noticed the semi clustering classes live in the examples module while I
think they should be in the machine learning one, with a proper example then in
the examples module, so most of them should go to ml module except for the
_SemiClusterJobDriver_.

If there's no objection I'll do the refactoring accordingly.

Re: hama pipes build

Hi,

thanks for your feedback!

I will try to solve it this way:

if (CMAKE) {
  build hama_pipes module
} else {
  skip hama_pipes module
  notify user, why hama_pipes was skipped
}

By the way, did you also observe this build failure mentioned by Chia-Hung

That looks fine to me. In addition to this, if that task is
accomplished, are we planning to release a new version (e.g. a minor
version plus 1)? Just to check as it seems that we have demands on
frequent releases so that users who need some specific patches can use
it earlier.

 Hi all,

 After we release the 0.6.3 (HDFS 2.0 version), we have to work for 0.7.0
 version now.

 I would like to suggest that we solve the messaging scalability issue.
 WDYT?

 ...

 And, according to my experiments, BSP framework shows very nice performance
 (I tested also GraphLab and Spark). Only Graph job is slow. So, I'll mainly
 work on improving the performance of GraphJobRunner.

Re: hama pipes build

2013-09-09 Thread Chia-Hung Lin
If that's related to the error with mail titled -

hama-pipes: An Ant BuildException during `make'

Then

1. install cmake
2. an inclusion of `#include ` to the HamaPipes.cc is needed.

Re: hama pipes build

2013-09-09 Thread Anastasis Andronidis
Hello,

as Martin Illecker explains at his ticket (HAMA-749), there are lots of
benefits with cmake: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-8368

I had the some confusion when I tried to build. I think we should test if cmake
exists at first place in the beginning of the building, and inform the user to
install it, instead of failing with a bogus message.

Cheers,
Anastasis

hama pipes build

2013-09-09 Thread Tommaso Teofili
Hi all,

when I try to build from trunk I get the following while trying to build
the pipes module:

[ERROR] Failed to execute goal
org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-antrun-plugin:1.6:run (make) on project
hama-pipes: An Ant BuildException has occured: Execute failed:
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "cmake" (in directory
"/Users/teofili/Documents/workspaces/asf/hama/trunk/c++/target/native"):
error=2, No such file or directory -> [Help 1]

If I understand things correctly I miss the compiler on my computer,
however it'd be good if we could skip that module if that cmake program is
missing.

Regards,
Tommaso
