Thanks you for the update. Thanks to Aijin and Rafaella, I believe the xliff bug has been fixed on Pootle3. So, JA community can start the translation work now on http://pootle3.sunvirtuallab.com/ ? I think that Aijin uploaded only some test files of the Developer's Guide. So the next step is to upload the full content. I assume the next step is to upload the leveraged Basic Guide and Admin Guide to Pootle by Sun so that JA community can get the TMX as a memory. Yes and the second step would be to upload the already translated Basic and Admin Guide. I'll keep you informed once done. Thanks! Re: [l10n-dev] translate the Developer's Guide
Hi Rafaella-san, Thank you for your reply. 2009/4/28, Rafaella Braconi rafaella.brac...@sun.com: just a short update that I haven't forgot about the Developer's Guide you would like to translate into Japanese :-) . I'll never forget that. ;-) Currently, we are looking into the possibility to set up a documentation project in Pootle and use Pootle to carry out translations and bug fixes. The project would be an xliff project since this is the file format that can be easily extracted from and published back to the wiki system. The advantage of this method is that previous translations won't be lost and it would be relatively easy to detect form version to version what has been changed. That sounds interesting. I'll keep you posted as soon as we have some news. I'm always ready to catch the news. Thanks a lot. -- KUBOTA, Takaya - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@l10n.openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@l10n.openoffice.org

Re: [l10n-dev] translate the Developer's Guide
I wonder if we could avoid duplicated efforts. A lot has changed in the contents. They may be some that could be referenced, but unlikely - as Rafaella said, the format and source has changed a lot since that document was published. The similar document has been already translated and available at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/prod/so8?l=jaa=view + StarOffice 8 Collection - Japanese StarOffice 8 開発ガイド http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-1324?l=ja - January 22, 2007 http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/819-1324/819-1324.pdf Tora Hi all, We, Japanese translation project, will translate http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/OpenOffice.org_Developers_Guide into Japanese. When you are translating and putting the content back into the Wiki: - Please use the existing English URLs for each page with a JA prefix, and use the Wiki syntax DISPLAYTITLE to localize the page title. For example, http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/JA/Documentation/DevGuide/OpenOffice.org_Developers_Guide This simplifies things like providing a master Collection for exporting the manual to ODT and PDF, and automating the Intrawiki linking. You can look at the Chinese translation for a good guideline on how to manage the technical side of the localization. http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Zh/Documentation/DevGuide/OpenOffice.org_Developers_Guide We will need to add intrawiki links from each language to the next. I will look at the best way we can do this - when we had just English and Chinese, it was easy to manage on a page by page basis. With more languages it quickly becomes necessary to automate it. Re: [l10n-dev] translate the Developer's Guide
Taka, Tora, at that time the Developer's Guide was not open sourced and was authored in another file format. Now, it is in MediaWiki and when changing the format it#s very difficult to get any good results with TM leverage from previous versions. This is at least what I saw when we translated the Admin and the Basic Guide. If you want I could process the Developer's Guide with our internal Tools by using previous TMs as well as the TMs from the Admin and Basic Guide. Based on the results we can decide if it's worth while sharing previous TMs. Just give me 1-2 days to look into that.
