2013/3/26 Jacopo Cappellato jacopo.cappell...@hotwaxmedia.com

This is the vote thread to approve the first release for the 12.04 branch.
 This new release, Apache OFBiz 12.04.01 (major release number: 12.04;
minor release number: 01) is the first release of the 12.04 series and
contains all the features of the trunk up to April 2012 and since then has
been stabilized with bug fixes. It will become the OFBiz current stable
release and users of the 11.04 series will be encouraged to migrate to this
 release.

The candidate release files can be downloaded from here:

 https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/ofbiz/

 (committers only) or from here:

 http://people.apache.org/~jacopoc/dist/

 (everyone else)

 and are:

 * apache-ofbiz-12.04.01.zip: the release package, based on the 12.04
branch at revision 1461136 (latest as of now)
 * KEYS: text file with keys
 * apache-ofbiz-12.04.01.zip.asc: the detached signature file
 * apache-ofbiz-12.04.01.zip.md5, apache-ofbiz-12.04.01.zip.sha: hashes

Please download the zip file and check its signatures (for instructions on
 testing the signatures see http://www.apache.org/info/verification.html),
 then test the release.

 Vote:

 [ +1] release as Apache OFBiz 12.04.01
 [ -1] do not release

This vote will be closed in Monday, 1st of April.

GSoC is coming, and ideas are listed in Jira.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?jql=labels%20%3D%20gsoc2013%20ORDER%20BY%20key%20ASC

Maybe we could create an issue on this point and have a student make a POC
based on some framework like bootstrap ?

I would like to see a deep refactoring of the UI. Ideally, it should be
separated into two distinct components, a view renderer and a series of
authenticated services that support it. It is about time for us to step
into the modern world where the UI is an application, written in
Javascript, that communicates with the application using JSON or XML RPC
calls. If rendering for javascriptless clients is really still a priority
then we might want to look at using rhino or nashorn in the server to do
the same rendering there but, fundamentally, move to a javascript based
view rendering solution. The interactivity and fluidity of a properly AJAX
based interface is part of what makes us look so dated compared to
 solutions like OpenERP.

We also need to completely reconsider the UI experience. The interface is
overwhelming to new users. If we could have a role based method for hiding
controls then we could have a beginner user mode that greatly simplified
core screens. A basic drop-ship ecommerce user doesn't need to see billing
accounts, facilities and a lot of the other complexity on the product
screens. Our order entry process is also rather clunky, even in comparison
 to older systems like SQL-Ledger.

 Remove GenericPortlet from OFBiz

 Key: OFBIZ-5088
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-5088
 Project: OFBiz
  Issue Type: Sub-task
  Components: framework
Reporter: Olivier Heintz
Assignee: Erwan de FERRIERES
Priority: Minor
 Attachments: OFBIZ-5088.patch, OFBIZ-5088.patch, OFBIZ-5088.patch

GenericPortlet are some portlet ready to use, working with attributes
(parameters) to give formName, menuName, ...
It's currently not used in ofbiz and with portletWidget it is no more
necessary because now it's very simple to define a simple portlet and it's
more clear that having formName as a attribute.
Generic portlet was the first test to simplify using portlet in ofbiz.

Sure but what is refraining you for web driver? More that you feel there

What others think about it? Are you interested?

I don't think this could be moved to extras, but this is more a framework
addition. The integration that has been done is designed to be fully
integrated with OFBiz and part of the framework.
It's not a standalone component. It's like you would remove the testtools

webdriver is the selenium evolution, and this implementation is more
developer oriented than users.
This patch and effort are more a developer tool, where you write your tests
then run them locally, or as Youssef showed on an external service, like
the one offered by saucelab.
One more advantage is that you can run a full scenario, as you would do
with selenium.
Embedding this kind of tests is like the unit test framework which is
embedded in OFBiz. We are using external tools to reinforce the code
quality. From my POV, having a web interface is making the interface tests
mandatory. We are just going one step further in the global confidence.

Even if not all users will use it, some have already their own way.

The way I see it is that no one in the project community (nor from the
committer groups) asked for this implementation and very few ones showed
 interest for this.
Who is using it in this community? Jacques, did you test it and are you
 using it?

I asked for this to be added to OFBiz, and I didn't want to push it by
force, but wanted to have code reviews by other members before.
The neogia team is using it, and most of the developments are consolidated
with unit and webdriver tests.

2012/12/4 Lanre Abiwon el_gigan...@hotmail.co.uk

 Hi all

I only discovered OFBiz yesterday and I'm trying out this:
 https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/OFBiz+Tutorial+-+A+Beginners+Development+Guide#OFBizTutorial-ABeginnersDevelopmentGuide-CreatingPracticeApplication%28HelloWorld...%29tutorial.
Unfortunately I can't get it to work even though I have followed
 it to the letter.

My dev environment is OSX 10.7 with OFBiz imported into netbeans (7.1.2)
 as per specified here:
 https://cwiki.apache.org/OFBIZ/ofbiz-in-netbeans-6.html

I also had a ton of dependency issues with the svn pull so ended up
 grabbing a 12.04 current build.
Would be grateful for a more up-to-date tutorial in OFbiz that actually
works and how setup ofbiz in netbeans.

 Thanks

P.S I've also been hanging out in the freenode irc channel in hopes of
running into someone that can help.

Re: OFBIZ-4872: webdriver integration

2012-11-15 Thread Erwan de FERRIERES
I don't think this should be seen as an external component. The new
implementation is made to be part of OFBiz, like the junit tests we have.
The main issue for selenium integration was the license, there was some
components not consistent with the ASL2. I used ivy to download the jars
only if needed.

Thanks for the review, I will look at the points you listed.

Cheers,

2012/11/15 Jacopo Cappellato jacopo.cappell...@hotwaxmedia.com

Isn't it a good candidate for an external component (i.e. not bundled in
OFBiz and maintained by the OFBiz community)? I think we have already
discussed this topic some time ago and we concluded that
I also cursorily reviewed the patch and I have seen a series of issues
(e.g. hardcoded components name in framework code, hardcoded localhost,
bad formatting, misleading variable names like component rather than
 application etc...).

Re: OFBIZ-4872: webdriver integration

2012-11-15 Thread Erwan de FERRIERES
Jacopo,
using localhost is the way it should be. Like you are running unit tests on
your local instance, you are running functional tests on your local
instance.
This patch is only adding a new testing type which is not existing today.
It's why it is designed to be part of OFBiz as a new functionality and not
an external component.
In this case, a complete component would have been designed, and would not
be so coupled with OFBiz.

Cheers,

2012/11/15 Jacopo Cappellato jacopo.cappell...@hotwaxmedia.com

Thank you Erwan, but the information below doesn't help me to change my
point of view: the fact that the contribution was made to be part of the
trunk and that we already have Junit tests integrated doesn't necessarily
imply that we have to add this new one.
What do other think about this topic?

I added some screen and process to create/update productStoreGroup and manage
a hierarchy with a ftl treejs.
 functionality :
  * Create/Edit a productStoreGroup
  * Associate a productStoreGroup to a parentGroup
  * Associate a productStore to a productStoreGroup
  * Navigation on tree productStoreGroup

Le 17/08/2012 17:00, Jacopo Cappellato a écrit :

Hi all,

while reviewing the OFBiz code that implements the integration with Lucene I
have noticed some inconsistent usage of the Lucene Version: some code sets the
version to 30, 34, 35 while the current version we are using in OFBiz is 35
(aka Lucene 3.5); is this done intentionally or it is a result of incomplete
upgrades (as I suspect)?

Here is the code that I would like to commit to fix the issue (if it is an
issue), that will also make it easier to perform new upgrades: [*]
What do you think? All tests pass with this change but I have very few
experience of this integration and I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

Jacopo

Hi Jacopo,

I saw that too earlier this week, but didn't have the time to work on it.
+1 for that change, I think I may have forgotten to upgrade the version.

I would go even further to prevent these inconsistencies in later updates
and move
the groovy-Code to the java-Sources to get propper compiling errors.
Also there are already a couple of newer Lucene Versions out (eg.
Lucene-4.0-ALPHA).
I can provide some patches to upgrade to that release.

Greetings,
Mirko

Mirko,

please create a jira issue for upgrading to newer release, at least
3.6.1. I will then review it.

Cheers,

 Adrian,

 it is an interesting proposal.
If I well understand your proposal then the new scripting component
will depend on (mostly) all the 4 components... let me try to explain
 with an example.

 A) in theory with the current setup you could enable the service
component and that will give you access to all the scripting engines
implemented under it; if not interested in web events you could
disable the webapp component (ok, I guess this is not really possible
at the moment... but it could be a goal for a future refactoring)
 B) after your change you will need the service and scripting
component, but the scripting component will depend on webapps etc..
(because in it there are also the implementation of a few scripting
 events)

So the risk is that the change will not really make the framework more
 modular.

Mini-language could be moved to the script component or it could

 ScriptHelperFactoryImpl.java, ScriptHelperImpl.java,
 BeanShellEngine.java, GroovyBaseScript.groovy, GroovyEngine.java,
 ScriptEngine.java, GroovyService.java, GroovyShellService.java,
 GroovyShellThread.java, GroovyShellContainer.java, and
 GroovyEventHandler.java.

Those files are scattered across 4 components.

Some of the things that could be removed are:

 org.ofbiz.base.util.ScriptHelperFactory

This subject has been mentioned in other threads, but I'm making it a
separate thread so everyone has a chance to comment.

I would like to backport the Mini-language overhaul in its entirety to
the Release 12 branch. The overhaul contains some new features (break,
continue, trace elements, and element validation), but most of the
work was bug fixes (the model classes were not thread-safe, many bits of
code did not work). So, the backport is not purely a bug fix. Separating
the code so that only bug fixes are backported would be difficult -
because the overhaul represents 6 MB of changes.

I have backported the overhaul to Release 12 on my local machine and
everything works fine. If there are no objections in the next few days,
I would like to commit those changes.

located at the OFBiz's root.

I created the related Jira issue:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-4783

Would it be possible you take a look ?

I have, and you are the one who broke it. You changed the cobertura
version from 0.9.3, to 0.9.4.1, without checking *all* files, to see if
anything referenced it.

I just fixed the broken reference, but now it still needs the asm
library, which was removed. I'm not certain how ivy functions(I could
learn, but would take time), maybe you could add a download-asm that is
depended-on by download-cobertura.

Thanks a lot... And I'm so angry about me that I was the one introducing
the bug. Thanks again !!

On another note, please, people, check your work as much as you can.
It's better to not do it at all if it might break something, then to go
ahead, and do it without understanding, and without sitting around
watching for breakage, and fixing it. I know that I have broken stuff
the last weak; but I am sticking around and fixing it correctly, by
going forward.

At the least, scan the commit history to see when things were added,
then send emails publically to the list. If no response is given, a
private mail is then required. For this issue, only a public email was
sent to me, and I was busy with $work to notice. I was checking private
mail tho.

I am considering adding an element to Mini-language - trace - to aid
with development. The element would be used like so:

trace level=info
!-- code that needs debugging goes here --
/trace

Each contained element will log detailed information on its internal
state using the specified log level.

A developer trying to debug a block of code can enclose it with the
trace element to see what is happening internally.

What do you think?

Apache Commons Compress is missing for Tika

I got a problem when I called createDataResource service for a zip file.

 exception: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

The problem was OFBiz is missing Apache Commons Compress library which is
required for Tika. When I added commons-compress-1.4.jar into
 framework/base/lib/commons directory then it worked.

Hi Gil,

there is no need to rename your patches, Jira is directly deactivating the
oldest one.
Also, maybe the best test to explain your work is to add unit tests.

 In https://demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/webtools/control/viewdatafile
There is a bug when defining simple separator (for instance ,) in
definition file, and when in data file a string data contains the separator.
This one sould not be interpreted in data parsing.
To illustrate a bit more, i add small sample files to reproduce the problem.
And the patch which fix the bug.

The main reason is the ofbiz community is not paying attention to how
slow the software has gotten. It currently takes my desktop 1 hour to
run a full test suite. clean, load-demo(30m), run-tests(30m). It
used to take 12-15m. This has caused me to not do much, as it takes
to long to do anything.

The issue that helps the most is getting a larger l2-cache on the cpu.
The load-demo time is greatly affected by derby being *way* to large,
code-size wise.

I've started doing work now, by using a virtualized instance that has
more l2-cache, but the problem still remains.

Hi,

I had better stats with the new ant 1.8.3. But the times you have are
really impressive !

can't explain why...

MacroFormRenderer.renderResetField contains a missing entry when appending
 title to renderResetField's StringWritter.
 MacroFormRenderer.java line# 1202
 sr.append( title=\);
 Where it should be
 sr.append(\ title=\);
Because of above reset/ button is not displaying on the screen. At back end
it is returning Freemarker parser exception.
BTW it is one line change, if required I will submit the patch shortly.

Pierre,

I reviewed your patch. You should look to the contributor's best practices, and
configure your IDE (tabs to spaces).
css modification is not needed, as already existing.
And for the modification for agreementScreens.xml#EditAgreement (setting
values) I don't agree with it, you shouldn't set company directly in the code.

No no, this is not possible: please ready my previous message carefully; the
release package will have to contain required jars (while the svn may not) and
most of all the LICENSE file must contain all jars that are required to
run/test/use the software.

Hi Doogie,

a long time ago, you committed code to test the presence of the
cobertura classes:
https://fisheye6.atlassian.com/changelog/ofbiz?cs=889839.
Today (maybe since ?), this is not working with the ant shell script
located at the OFBiz's root.

I created the related Jira issue:
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-4783

Would it be possible you take a look ?

Thanks,

To be frank, when I 1st read Pierre's proposition I thought it was a good
idea and just wanted to ask him for patches :p

Then I put my black hat (played the devil's advocate if you prefer) and
began to think about drawbacks and possibles issues. No Internet connection
poped to my mind and then those minor issues.

I now think that the no internet connection is indeed not a deep problem.
Because, like you said, you need initially to checkout
 anyway.

But for the slownesss I'm less sure. I just checked and I see that Ivy does
not see that it has already downloaded a lib and does it again. Can we
 prevent that?

wrong, it checks in the .ivy folder.
If you look at the log, and the jar is already downloaded, it will
tell you downloaded 0 / copied 1 (or something like that).

My main questions are: what is the real advantage of doing this? How this
would solve the problems I posted at the beginning of this thread (that has
been ignored to discuss about tools)?

ivy would rename the jars the way we want (eg package-version.jar),
and using ivy, we would then reduce the LICENSE file, as less jars
would be released with OFBiz. From an extremist POV, we could only
whip ant + ivy, and one of the first task would be to download

Please Francis keep the issues where they belong, it will be easier to manage

Also, who patched the jar ? Is it the jackrabbit team or you ? Maybe it would

patching a jar.

Environment: WXP SP3, Sun SDK 1.6;0_30, PostgreSQL 9.2
Reporter: Francis ANDRE
 Attachments: jackrabbit-core-2.3.3.jar, ofbiz-eclipse.patch

 Hi
I suggest to improve the integration of ofbiz under Eclipse by adding 4
 lauching configurations:
 tools/ofbiz.start
 tools/ofbiz.stop
 tools/ofbiz.status
 tools/ofbiz.test
The ofbiz.start has the specific JVM property DEBUG set to the value of
eclipse -DDEBUG=eclipse so that all ofbiz jars located under each build/lib
won't be loaded/added to the classpath. This will allow to continue producing
all ofbiz jars with the build.xml while allowing hot replacement of classes
when running under the Eclipse's debug launcher.
Also, I added to this issue a patched version of the
jackrabbit-core-2.3.3.jar that should replace the one in the
framework/jcr/lib to avoid the jdbc driver exception: See
 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JCR-3288
 Hope this help

Re: Building with Jenkins - cobertura and sonar

2012-04-10 Thread Erwan de FERRIERES

I am trying to set this up and I have following questions:

I never used it with another DB than derby...
   1. Should the mySQL driver be in framework/entity/lib/jdbc folder?
can't answer but I'll make some tests

   2. My mySQL db for sonar is on a different server (not localhost). Must
I adjust build.xml or pass it as a parameter?
I'll change the parameter this way tonight: property
name=sonar.jdbc.url value=${sonar.jdbc.url}/

   3. Am I correct to understand that both ${sonar.jdbc.username}
and ${sonar.jdbc.password} are to be passed as parameters when triggering
the target, or are they supposed to be set in build.xml?
parameters

parameters when the job is triggered.

Cheers,
