[Andrea] The page provides relevant information in a bad way. It is by
keeping it as it is that we play the game of haters. I'll propose a
 rewrite next weekend.

Now, weekends do not last 5 days, unfortunately, and life on the
OpenOffice lists has been more eventful than I expected. But I very much
prefer that instead of flooding the list as a handful of people did in
the last few hours, someone would remember this and either say that we
were still waiting for my rewrite or that they were replacing me in the
task since I'm clearly late. But voting on the abstract option of
replacing the page which something that doesn't exist does not really
make a lot of sense to me.

And it sounds too much like the usual we talk about something expecting
that someone else does the work that I'd like we abandon.

Well, my offer to rewrite it remains valid... but you'll have to be
 patient until next weekend!

thanks Andrea that you still offer a rewrite for further discussion. I
think this is the way to go. I still see valid points on this page and I
believe it can help people to understand a bit more all this license
jungle. At least the ones who are interested.

And let us put a clear disclaimer on top of the page that is the view of
the AOO PMC and not ASF in general.

 Hi -

We had a reason that we enabled https in the first place. I don't recall
it now, but there was a reason. It may have had to do with update servers.

The main web server on which we run, have always been enabled for both
http: and https: but we have not been able to use it, due to a missing
certificate.

When we got the openoffice certificate, we had the possibility and at the
same time we needed to change other services to https because the had a
login facility. This lead to a decision, to do it but not officially
support it. Someone (I think Markus or Rob) did a good job of removing
http: on most tags, but some was to complicated to be removed
automatically, hence we have some leftovers.

Now with https: ranging high in google, we are effectively promoting that
site, which is why I feel it should work or be removed (which I do not
recommend).

Well... we NOWHERE, and I repeat NOWHERE, advertise the URL
https://www.openoffice.org ; as a courtesy to those people who prefer
HTTPS, we make it available, but if they use broken extensions or
paranoid security settings they cannot blame us too much.

then the solution would be to make it unavailable. ;-)

Seriously, I agree with Jan. When it's available then it should work.

Furthermore, there is also involvement of SEO: Google prefers the
 availability of HTTPS over HTTP.

  Then:

  1) I also get (Firefox) the warning about This website does not supply
identity information; I didn't investigate this one.

  2) We still load components from HTTP. Marcus, the Net panel in Firebug
will show you the URLs to all components. You will see that starting
  with a 404 (?) for
  http://www.openoffice.org/images/formElementDropShadow.png?2011060812
you have a series of action buttons that are all included via HTTP. This
  is because lines 56- of
  https://www.openoffice.org/home.css
  contain explicit HTTP links.

You may fix it (but I would need to check the CSS syntax for the url()
  parameter) by:
  - Using /path/to links as Ariel suggested
  - Using // URLs (e.g., //www.openoffice.org will point to
https://www.openoffice.org when called in a https page and to
  http://www.openoffice.org when called in a http page) ; I'm not a big
fan of this solution, I would prefer the former one.

All of this would anyway fix an undocumented, unpublished URL that we
make available just to please people (remember, this is a static HTML
site with no interactive server-side functionality or logins).

  I don't want to stress a new topic. :-P However, wasn't there a
discussion to request a SSL certificate from Infra and the point was IMHO
the difficulty to get this as a wildcard certificate?

Anyway, I volunteer to do fixes where they a re needed (yes, I know we
 have a big wesite. ;-) )

  Thanks for your valuable hints.

For what it's worth (and I'm sure there are some on this list who believe it is

because it is not consistent with ASF statements and leaves ASF open to the

The page was originally written and discussed at a time when some factions of
the PMC were not really entertaining dissent from an agenda of emphasizing the

 Subject: Updating the wiki theme.

I would like to update the wiki theme to the one that we use on the
homepage. ATM the wiki theme uses the very old OpenOffice.org, we are going
4-5 years in Apache and still have the same look and feel. I would like to
get a new theme on the wiki for current style.

Did you find the sources you need, otherwise drop me an email, and I will
copy it to you directly.

First step should be to 'create' a theme that can be hacked and tested.
Then change it to the default by the wiki admin. The old wiki would still
be available and enabled by users that preffer the old one, but new theme
could become the default once reaching a functional style.

I am not soo keen to have multiple themes active on our production wiki, I
spent quite some time removing all other themes than the AOO one. Having
multiple themes gives 2 problems:
- a security problem, if we are not very careful (I will not detail this)
- a graphic layout problem, it turns out our setup is very sensitive to
small changes like another font, and some of the pages tilt when you do
that.

You should also be aware that in order to keep our current theme running, I
needed to patch some of the core code of mediawiki, it would be nice if a
new them could avoid that.

I suggest you make yourself a test instance of mediawiki (I can provide
what you need of setup info, incl. a dump of the SQL), develop your theme,
once you have it, make a couple of screenshot and get acceptance in here.

Once it is accepted I am happy to take it, verify it, and install it on the
production system.

Sounds like a plan to you ?

Well that's an issue since like you specify this code is not 'generic' so
I wont have details of what it needs to be applied to the production wiki.

I would rather access a snapshot, or a duplicated VM temporarily until the
work is done. However the development would be done in a closed fashion
which is not the ideal scenario.

Also would be nice if you could detailed the most obvious pitfalls to know
how to get around it. The reason why you need to change code is mainly
because Monowiki theme also suffered version changes, and our original
theme was based of an older version of the monowiki theme. This scenario is
kind of unaviodable, unless is started from scratch.

and a CWiki account at the same time.

Keith already has privileges to create MWiki accounts, but not to create
CWiki accounts. I propose that we give Keith the CWiki admin privileges
too, so that we are more efficient in handling new account requests.
I'll assume lazy consensus on this.

I am not soo keen to have multiple themes active on our production wiki,
 I
spent quite some time removing all other themes than the AOO one. Having
  multiple themes gives 2 problems:
  - a security problem, if we are not very careful (I will not detail this)
  - a graphic layout problem, it turns out our setup is very sensitive to
small changes like another font, and some of the pages tilt when you do
  that.

You should also be aware that in order to keep our current theme
 running, I
needed to patch some of the core code of mediawiki, it would be nice if a
  new them could avoid that.

I suggest you make yourself a test instance of mediawiki (I can provide
what you need of setup info, incl. a dump of the SQL), develop your
 theme,
once you have it, make a couple of screenshot and get acceptance in here.

Once it is accepted I am happy to take it, verify it, and install it on
 the
  production system.

Sounds like a plan to you ?

Well that's an issue since like you specify this code is not 'generic' so
I wont have details of what it needs to be applied to the production wiki.

Well you do need a test installation anyway, where you test your code.

I would rather access a snapshot, or a duplicated VM temporarily until the
work is done. However the development would be done in a closed fashion
which is not the ideal scenario.

Infra cannot provide a temporary VM just for this purpose, making that
would include DNS, LDAP, Puppet so at least the work of a little day.

I can (as I already suggested) provide you a SQL dump. I can also dump the
application, allthough it will most likely not run on your vm, due to
dependencies of a number of other programs.

May I suggest, that you make a naked installation of mediawiki somewhere,
build the theme, and let me put it on production. There are basically no
need to have our pretty complex production environment just to make a new
theme.

Last time I worked with the theme, I did it exactly like that.

You might be right about the version changes, but I am not convinced, since
I had the same problems when I tried to update the theme code.

I cannot detail the pitfalls for 2 good reasons:
- I have forgotten most of what I did (it is in svn) and why I did it
- Most of the things I simply did with try-test methods, I tried at that
time not to understand too much of why the theme was so mega complex.

I think we would benefit from a clean theme based on the newest version.

No. Maybe the Admin Privileges I have in mind mean something else than
the Admin Privileges you have in mind. My privileges are limited to
adding (whitelisting) users to the OOOUSERS space and making some other
administration (like changing logo) to that space. I have no permissions
over other spaces. I can't even add users to groups, or see their e-mail
address.

Infrastructure will need to be made aware of this request and grant the rights.

Sure. My so-called Admin privileges do not allow me to create a new
space administrator for OOOUSERS, so it is automatic that Infra will
need to allow this. I assume you Dave have more extended permissions,
but the level of permissions I'm proposing we give to Keith is my set of
permissions. This doesn't require a special CWiki experience other than
the normal page editing that all of us have done on CWiki.

OK, and I plan to keep my current privileges too.

Hi Kay,

We had an update to our BZ instance about a month ago. In all honesty, I
didn't give the update a thorough review.

Now, I see that our Release Blocker button, and Request Review button
 seem to be missing.

Can someone else confirm this? or is it just my situation. Thanks.

I can confirm that this was the case. The migration of these bits must
have gone wrong:

The release-blocker flags were still there, but none were activated, so
I re-enabled the 4.1.2-blocker flag.

The request-review flag was also still there but there were no groups
left that were allowed to request or grant reviews of a patch
attachment. I'm not sure what the original setting was, but I think
every registered user could request the review and every member with
can-confirm rights could grant the review. I reset these bits accordingly.

Thanks for finding and reporting these problems!

paranoid security settings they cannot blame us too much.

then the solution would be to make it unavailable.

:-P However, wasn't there a
discussion to request a SSL certificate from Infra and the point was
IMHO the difficulty to get this as a wildcard certificate?

Anyway, I volunteer to do fixes where they a re needed (yes, I know we
have a big wesite. ;-) )

Thanks for your valuable hints.

grrr, some change was too much. So, I've reverted the changes for now

Well... we NOWHERE, and I repeat NOWHERE, advertise the URL
https://www.openoffice.org ; as a courtesy to those people who prefer

:-P However, wasn't there a
discussion to request a SSL certificate from Infra and the point was
IMHO the difficulty to get this as a wildcard certificate?

Anyway, I volunteer to do fixes where they a re needed (yes, I know we
have a big wesite. ;-) )

Thanks for your valuable hints.

because its Sheets kept shutting down on pastes from other apps or when keying

Here's to a new life with Apache!
