Meson: yet another build system

2016-11-29 Thread Louis Suárez-Potts
Pedro, *
Thanks for the hint. I've not tried Meson (http://mesonbuild.com/index.html)
out yet and am just reading up on "Wrap",* the tech that Meson uses.

BTW,
"Why is it called Meson?

(When the name was originally chosen, there were two main limitations: there
must not exist either a Debian package or a Sourceforge project of the given
name. This ruled out tens of potential project names. At some point the name
Gluon was considered. Gluons are elementary particles that hold protons and
neutrons together, much like a build system's job is to take pieces of source
code and a compiler and bind them to a complete whole.

(Unfortunately this name was taken, too. Then the rest of physical elementary
particles were examined and Meson was found to be available.")**

If Meson works as one would hope, and if it satisfies the licensing
requirements of the project, and if it is easier to use than existing
(frustrating, for me, at least) means.

Cheers,
Louis

No, I think the issue dosen't affect Ubuntu. Ubuntu use probabily the

great :-)

But I think this was the easy part. Building (and preparing the build
system) is more difficult. I cross my fingers for this.

Well Ubuntu is relativly easy, I frear Windows. It seams also, that the
building guide is a bit outdate for Windows. But I have to take a deep
breath and just try it.

sorry, of course I meant preparing and building on Windows as the more

But generaly speaking, the entry level at Apache OpenOffice is very
height. A newby has a realy hard time. Sometimes I miss the IRC Channel.
I don't know, but I think we should reactivate this.

Sure, it is! https://www.facebook.com/ApacheOO/ This one is under
Control of Apache OpenOffice. Or better it was... Moast of the admin are
inactive now. This was also the reason why I don't kicked myself out the
admin list. As I left the PMC i forgot to do this. Later I saw, that
maybe not so many people monitoring this site and I desided to keep an
eye on it. I'm sorry, that I'm not informated the PMC about it.
But your right, it would be good to have some other (active) admins on
board. There are often questions about OpenOffice on this site.

Yes, I guess most of it is because I use Arch Linux which is not binary
compatible with mainstream Distros.
I have an idea to solve my current problem with a dirty workaround. So I
can at least can say I am able to build.
