Wiki website issue
Since a couple of weeks, forums was slowness due to bot attacks. Hello Rizwan, Thank you for taking interest in the OpenOffice Project. We are not really organized in an industrial way. We are volunteers working on this project for the public welfare. However we have always need for volunteers. One main difference is that we do not use hierarchical structures unlike common in industry. We move by consent and meritocracy principles. You know best how your skills are used. It is up to you how you engage. I see following topics in web sphere, without any priority applied: * robot.txt for mediawiki, forum (maybe better title is outtakes mediawiki & forum) * migration pootle * update mediawiki * migration blog to pelican * update opengrok * migration to container based services (actually I see that as part of above points) * we need to do something with the extension page * forum maintenance anyone has more points web related? It's been a while since I last edited pages on the website. I previously edited pages using the browser-based editing workflow as described here: https://openoffice.apache.org/docs/edit-cms.html#browser-based-editing-workflow Now when I go to edit a page clicking my JavaScript bookmarklet returns: can’t connect to the server at cms.apache.org. Did I miss the memo about some change in this procedure, or is there another problem? If everyone is touching this system with a 10 feet pole. I am not sure if the AOO extension service is in an healthy situation for the project . I mean there is still the FSF statement [1] on the net, which is not nice. The current situation is that Andrea is stepping up for the email service. I do not have the feeling that the extension page is much of an interest to SF.net. And it seems the ASF is also not particular fond of this system. Should we maybe rethink the extension web service? Before volunteers can work what to do, we need to have a vision, and clearly make plans what to do. Hi Dave I will upload or send to you by email the SVG(s) later today. Can you use the SVG directly on the page? Wouldn't that be preferable instead of PNGs? Separate issue: I opened the Spanish forum on Firefox running on Linux and it looks good. However opening the same page on Android is missing some elements. Dave, For Dutch (NL) you don't need a separate Forum Header. You can safely use the EN version. We Dutch do so now and again "borrow" words from other languages. Forum is one of them. Just noticed a typo in the navigation bar on the website pages for www.openoffice.org In the bar it says: "Extentions & Templates" which should be "Extensions & Templates" (It is the bar below the announcement: "Released: Apache OpenOffice 4.1.10") I've been looking some time to find the responsible element, but can't find it anywhere in Github. I would like to separate the translated text with the release data and
combine both again in the build process. Example:

include it here as variable?
Can the value for "announceurl" come from the general brand.md file and
only overwritten when a customized one is existing in the localized
brand.md?
However, I've not the knowledge to do this.
Do you have an idea how to do?

About MacOS I personally know nothing. Maybe it would be best if I say here that I will think about detailed requirements together with the update (*) of the German installation manual? (*): I have to explain this briefly: as part of the ProOO-Box's work on the German AOO documentaion (see comments on http://www.openoffice.org/de/doc/index.html), I am currently working specifically on the installation manual. Problem is that I, due to lack of time, unfortunately only very slow progress, advantage is that I really binding work on it. As sorry as I am, I can't say until when this work will be done, but it will take _at least_ a few more months. Yes, it makes sense to leave out technical details for now, but I recently came across (through an info on users-de@...) the following issue where I think improvement is needed (in the medium term): our download site works almost not at all without JavaScript. Namely the linking to https://www.apache.org/dyn/aoo-closer.cgi/openoffice/ does not help the user at all because there are no relevant mirrors for AOO. I had already addressed the 'problem' with mirrors myself (here on this list), but got little response. I don't want to go into both things (JavaScript, Mirror) here, but I would like to ask you to keep them in mind. The number of choices for the OSs are very clear. The language items are also really clear. That's exactly what I wrote myself on the de-users list and expressed my lack of understanding that users don't seem to be able to use a website that is as easy to use as a vending machine. Nevertheless, I have to take note that there are such users. The the question is if can satisfy all users that have problems to find the right install set. When we get such a report here and there, then I think there is no real big need at the moment and a quick answer to this user is faster than investing hours of thinking and trying to improve the download experience in general. and if the user chooses "Windows" you could show him directly the additional info that he has to make sure to install a 32 bit Java later ...
