Re: [VOTE] Replace the current Portlet Plugin with Sandbox Version

2011-05-30 Thread Rene Gielen
+1 (binding)

As a side note, we have already a couple of users (including Johannes)
using the sandbox plugin, and after fixing some reported issues, they
seem to be quite happy now.

Side note two: the Portlet2 plugin is fully downwards compatible, it
detects the API version on the fly / through the choice of the right
dispatcher. That's why it would replace the existing portlet plugin
rather than being added as additional (say portlet2) plugin.

Looks like Rene and Johannes has done a great job getting the plugin up to
date.

+1 from the side line.

Re: [VOTE] Replace the current Portlet Plugin with Sandbox Version

2011-05-30 Thread Martin Cooper
It is very important to recognise that two different steps are
required to accomplish what you want here.

1) The promotion of anything out of the sandbox requires a vote. Thus,
formally speaking, it is not possible to vote on the current topic,
because we cannot include the sandbox version of the plugin in a
release. The plugin must be promoted out of the sandbox before it can
replace the current plugin.

2) Once the sandbox plugin has been promoted such that it _could_
become part of a release, there needs to be either consensus or a vote
to include it as part of what we intend to release. Note that this
does not _require_ a vote; consensus is sufficient. (Of course, a vote
will be required later for the release itself, but that's just a
normal release vote.)

This vote needs to be recast first as a vote to promote out of the
sandbox. Once that is done and has passed, either a second vote can be
started for replacing the existing plugin, if there might be
contention, or - more likely in this case, I believe - a proposal /
discussion thread can be started to ensure that there is consensus to
do so.

Thanks Martin!

If there was one thing I had to name for what I've learned at ASF it
would surely be you never stop learning :)

Going to cancel this vote and make up a new one.

[CANCEL] [VOTE] Replace the current Portlet Plugin with Sandbox Version

We have to split the process, need to vote on promoting Portlet 2 plugin
from sandbox before adding it to the release.

Martin,

I don't seem to find a good writeup for this procedure - do you have a
pointer for me?
