Haven't really tested out email clients on Android but if you use any of
the popular mail command line clients, you can get Termux on
Android and run familiar FLOSS command line/console programs on
your phone using it.

I think some IRC users have switched to Matrix. Speaking of Matrix,
I'd like to add a quick plug for Software Freedom Day. If anyone's
interested in volunteering or helping out, the Software Freedom Day
organizers are meeting via:

Feel free to join in.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Android, and the "smart" phones that it
runs on, are controlled by Google--which is a creation of U.S. intelligence.

You must be a young fellow. Welcome to the internet! The original internet, not
the dumpster fire that is the "modern" web. This is how the net used to be,
before Facefuck et al, when the masses had no computer/internet access or
"smart" phones, and the net was a haven for people like us. IRC also used to be
amazing, circa late 90s; nowadays it's a shadow of its former self. You've
missed the best days of the internet, but as you can see, the fires of liberty
are still kept burning in isolated areas, and history is cyclical; in some ways
our best days are still to come.

Hi!

While we're on it. Are there any good Android email clients that you
can recommend? I've yet to find an app that allows you to send emails
in plain text, let alone with line hard-wrapping :(

Here [0] is a list of clients recommended for plaintext. It also includes
instructions on how to set them up. I myself use and can recommend
FairEmail.

Thx! :D It is the first time I actually feel _clean_ when using email.
I don't know how much is it because of using plain text or about
actually talking to someone, but it's the first time I feel like I'm
using email as it was intended to be used (aka not to simply receive
one-time confirmation codes or advertising).

Now I'm gonna fall in love with using it and become sad because of how
unpopular it is. Am I the only one who eels that way?

I feel exactly the same! It's a shame simple and useful instruments like
email and IRC are either unpopular or misused nowadays. I really hope
more people will be using them in the future, especially since so many
enthusiasts work on improving them.

Since K9-Mail announced[1] that it will be "integrated" into Mozilla
Thunderbird on Android, I use FairEmail[2] instead. Both "apps" are a bloated
mess, but at least FairEmail doesn't depend on privacy-intruding Mozilla[3].

BTW, I suggest avoiding Android in the first place, for multiple reasons.

I have compiled a list of programs I use and recommend on my website[4] (page
is in Serbian, but you can Google translate it to somewhat acceptable level).

Wrapping lines like that means smaller screens have a much better viewing
experience.
Also on bigger screens one can resize or tile windows, which means more
windows
and text for better efficiency.

I use Vi and have `set wraplen=79` in ~/.exrc file among others things.

Hi!

Yes, all seems to be working (that is if you receive replies from us), I
have just recently shared some netiquette guidelines [0] on this list,
so I'm gonna attach it here just as well so you don't
have to go archive digging. ;)

I even wrap at 70 characters.

Automatic line wrapping mostly fails, e.g. for blockquotes. 50-75
characters per line is a sane default given human limits. It's proven
to be the "best" line length for readability[0]; the Wikipedia-page[1]
also gives some more insights.

With best regards

Is this message – an equivalent of a new forum topic or thread? Does anyone
even see this? Sorry, first time having conversations this way. Also, is
hard-wrapping lines at 80 characters a requirement? I see many people
doing this here (I

I do see an appeal in this, but I don't necessarily see the purpose. You can
configure any text editor to soft-wrap at the end of the screen
without breaking lines.
Is there something I can read about this?
