I think that this error was caused by allocation memory too much.if you get too many concurrent allocations, your gateway was definitively built with mem-check option. There's no native mem-check. There's only native option where every gw_malloc/gw_free is simply a macro for malloc/free or the "checked" variant where Kannel's gwlib takes note of all allocations etc to spill out an error if the gateway is in a runaway phase. If you are in mode native, kannel would consume more and more memory (providing there's a memory leak) and at one point in time crashes maybe (however in our use of gwlib, this didn't happen even after using 1GB of virtual memory). If you are in mode "checked", kannel stops after a predefined amount of allocations occur. This can happen under heavy load as a normal process and doesnt mean kannel is buggy and eating memory. Its normal that kannel takes a lot of memory under heavy use but it will free it afer use. So its easy to run into the test limitation of "checked"-mode without doing anything wrong really. Is there some packetsthat allocated memory before, butwould not released after life-time ? Is there any way to watch packets from the time it's allocated memory to the time that it's released? For examples, using log file to track each mem block allocated or release in the function gw_malloc() and gw_free()?you don't wana do this. Kannel is constantly allocating / freeing memory. However if you run into this problem. gwlib spills out the content of the memory areas used and where they have been allocated so this is usually enough to find the problem spot. You might consider doing a full rebuild of your kannel. I got the feeling some parts of it might be built with native and other's are now built with checked.Andreas FinkFink-Consulting--Tel: +41-61-6932730 Fax: +41-61-6932729 Mobile: +41-79-2457333Address: A. Re: [RFC] New temporary nack for Kannel SMPP module

2002-09-04 Thread Alex Judd

First things first, I've retyped that SMPP error code document and made it
available on our very minimalist website (http://www.skywire.co.uk) - it's a
great thing to have at your fingertips.

(slightly off topic) Let me look back at the list and find the changes that
were submitted for One2One/T-Motion. I'd obviously appreciate a diff.
against CVS ( :-) ) but if you're time is short don't worry. FYI O2
Interactive (not the SMSC part of O2 but their Internet division) have
created a propriatary XML interface that is similar to the One2One/T-Motion
one and we have to implement that for a client.

I'm pretty sure I can post this one back when we've done it :-)

Oh, but we did :-) it was posted on the Kannel-devel list a couple of
weeks ago. unfortunatly, it requires some major modifications to Kannel
infrastructure, and since it never got good testing, it didn't make it into
the CVS.
There was a good suggestion by Nisan Bloch on how to improve it, and when
we'll have the time we'll implement it and try again, but it the mean time -
if you want, I can generate it again against latest CVS and resubmit.

yes, standarts are following, but i've tested now all our

return 0x0b, others take that without problem either. I have
in my notes reference about 0x45 as i described earlier but i
don't remember where it was and can't recreate now. I'll add
that as TMP error but before that i would like to ask people
(SMSC providers) for additional information.

And what about some reaction when received 0x0D (bind failed)?

May be somebody from developers have had SMPP error codes

 Dear kannelers,
I am working on a SMPPv3.4 application. But onething is not
 clear for me.
I noticed that SMPP defines just 8 bit and 16 bit alphabets
 and not 7 bit
 alphabets (is that correct??)
If that is correct, how mobile handsets interact with SMPP
 applications?
Should mobile handsets send their information to these
 applications in
binary format (I mean 8 bit alphabet)?

In order to send 7 bit and 8 bit data to SMPP you store the content in the correct
encoding in the short_message field, no packing, and then set the dcs correctly.

Re: Kannel 1.2.0 with a major BUG VERSUS current CVS?

2002-09-04 Thread Stipe Tolj

I'm actually not aware of every change on current CVS but would like to know
your opinions wheter current CVS is stable as 1.2.0 or not.

the current CVS tree has a couple of cerious bugs fixes from 1.2.0
stable, so consider CVS currently as stable.

Indeed, I'd rather to deploy version 1.2.0 but this still have a major bug
regarding DLR and resending of malformed messages (SMPP driver).

Is it possible to somebody fix that bug in new 1.2.1 stable version or shall
I use the current CVS for production purposes?

If it's time urgent use the cvs tree for production. BTW, we do it and
hence we're arware that it's stable. If you can wait, then wait for
1.2.1.

First things first, I've retyped that SMPP error code document and made it

(slightly off topic) Let me look back at the list and find the changes that

Oh, but we did :-) it was posted on the Kannel-devel list a couple of
weeks ago. unfortunatly, it requires some major modifications to Kannel
infrastructure, and since it never got good testing, it didn't make it into
the CVS.
There was a good suggestion by Nisan Bloch on how to improve it, and when
we'll have the time we'll implement it and try again, but it the mean time -
if you want, I can generate it again against latest CVS and resubmit.

  Hi all,
My GW was built with native mem-check (default option).
You can
compile either with "native" or with "checking" - not both. the default option
before 1.2.0 was "checking", so my suggestion to you would be to recompile with
"native". in native mode, Kannel will not check for "too many
allocations".

I think that this error was caused by allocation memory too much.
Is there some packetsthat allocated memory before, butwould not
  released after life-time ?
I'm not
sure what you mean by "packets", but it is possiblethat some code claims
memory and never releases it - thats what we call "a memory leak". we find these
all the time and fix them - a later version will have fewer
leaks.

Is there any way to watch packets from the time it's allocated memory to
the time that it's released? For examples, using log file to track each mem
block allocated or release in the function gw_malloc() and gw_free()?
No.when the Kannel is brought down, and it was compiled with
"checking" or "slow" malloc, thena report will begenerated on each
memory segment that was not freed and which part of the code claimed
it.this mayor may not be helpful, as some functions claim
memoryfor otherparts of the code which are responsible for freeing
it and may not do that properly.

To get it working I needed to remove all SMS stored in the

 Keywords: message-storage, sim-buffering

I'm testing Ericsson T39 as SMSC.
Does anyone know how I can prevent the phone from storing
 the incoming
  SMS:es in phone memory?
Now the memory becomes full and no furhter messages are
 received until I
  manually delete them.

Actually - after enabling sim-buffering with the correct message-storage then Kannel
should be able to pull all the messages from the SIM and delete them automaticly. if
this is not the case - could you please submit a detailed bug report with some
bearerbox logs so we can fix that problem ?

[FYI] DLR processing changed

2002-09-04 Thread Stipe Tolj

Hi all,

I have re-organized the internals of the DLR processing a bit to make
the DLR proxying accross different SMSC modules more transparent.

Basicaly what has changed is that another parameter is given to
dlr.c:dlr_add() call which contains the source of the message.
Accoding to this the gw/smsc/smsc_foobar.c modules had to be addopted.

The most important change is between gw/dlr.c and gw/urlttrans.c where
the DLR URL is extracted. dlr_find() now sets the DLR URL within the
msg-sms.dlr_url variable and leaves msg-sms.msgdata free to be
populated by the smsc module on it's own.

The pattern function in urltrans.c graps the URL to be triggered for
the DLR from the msg-sms.dlr_url variable rather then parsing the
msg-sms.msgdata on it's own.

I'd like to request anyone who is using the DLR functions within the
varios mudules to confirm that the current change has not broken
anything. At least I have tested this for EMI2 and SMPP.

Stipe

2002-09-05 01:03:22 [3] DEBUG: HTTP: Resetting HTTPClient for `210.24.202.83'.

it's ok once i change the method to "get"

You have a problem with encoding - when submitting forms through GET, the
url-encoding is implied, but POST is defaulted to application/octet-stream.
if you use a browser to POST from a form, you have to set the enctype property
of the form to 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'.

 Stipe,

Would this patch solve it. Not knowing the protocol spec of SMASI.

I can try. But I took the code from smsc_smpp.c as template and AFAIK,
they had no such mungy p = *(p); thingies :))

I came up with this, since it is already in some places of the SMASI
code. Since I believe you wanted a NO-OP function, but this is
mainly an attempt to read your mind.

 HI all !

We sent a large messege ( 16k ) from the phone to the kannel wap
gateway (posting large message content to a url). The message was posted
ok. But it took a lot time to complete ( around a minute ). Debug output
shows that the bottleneck is with the wsp trying to write the content to
http socket. Does anyone know why ?

I can only guess, for instance a slow connection to the HTTP server,
but if you provide more info such as the debug output you refer to it
would help. Also, how quickly was the message send from the phone and
received in the gateway, maybe that was the reason why it took a minute
to write the complete message to the HTTP socket.

cheers,

Re: POST to /cgi-bin/sendsms

i added the enctype to the form...
form action="http://*.*.*.*:13013/cgi-bin/sendsms" enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded" method="post"
and the results are the same as before... smsbox.log shows the same thing tried using user/pass instead of username/password to no avail
