ELN can exist off an internal non fedora tree. Just depends who is updating the

Hi Ben,

It has much to do. Fedora is a community apparently Red Hat no longer needs.
The now ELN backend
can satisfy pre testing and could make fedora redundant.

I maybe wrong but even the ISO images require a Red Hat account. I know they do
as I just tried via clean VM.

People want to update a system and not fart about, updating via ISO or

every 6 months is a joke.

Hi,

Red Hat cannot do all the work that fedora does and CentOS stream is a staging
post currently for
the break off that will become RHEL. This may change and fedora becomes a
non-entity to be
discarded, but only Red Hat can tell us.

Whack-a-mole is not what we want to play and we are aware of MIT and GPL
licenses. What the
community needs is a free source of entry. I believe the GPL asks you never
have to make agreement
to access GPL code. However Red Hat have not defined what a customer and
partner is, but this
requires having a Red Hat account which requires agreeing to terms etc. to
access the srpms.

The Free dev account was never mentioned in the announcement. Can Red Hat

those who access srpms, rebuild then for other purposes will not have accounts
cancelled?

What is Fedora?

2023-06-21 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi all,

Obviously many will have seen:

https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/furthering-evolution-centos-stream

and see, where EL (contributors like you of fedora/EPEL) have been knocked down:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2215299

Let us face it our efforts with the Fedora project are not valued and it is a
means nothing to the
new corporate IBM/Red Hat enterprise systems that we have to struggle to get
access to srpms, to
make a community. What is community now to Red Hat?

I see an impasse here. Why contribute to fedora when Red Hat will lock it down
in other products?

Hi Kevin,

Yes, all fixed now. An unusual quirk that I now know about. :-)

Hi,

Any bug report that contains sensitive data (exploitable or not) and is deemed
private, the
discussion should be done in that bug report.

Private ML is always a bad idea as much discussion tends to end up on it and
the wider community is
excluded and I do not believe we are here to exclude.

releng-bot owns my package in SCM - belcard

2023-06-18 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi,

After completing a package-review for belcard[1], I tried to create the repo,
seems that the repo
after a couple of attempts got created, but is owned by 'releng-bot' and not
myself 'kathenas'. How
can I get this resolved?

Maybe 'org' in the naming rather than 'corp' as not all businesses and entities
are corps. More
sedate naming and would cover other distros, charities and other groups in
general?

libosip2 soname bump in rawhide

Hi all,

In the effort to update the very outdated linphone stack and related software.
In the next day or
so the libosip2 package will receive its first major update in Fedora since
2013 that will include
a soname bump.

Intention to take ownership of and revive from retirement - ortp

2023-03-02 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi all,

Once upon a time...

One day a fedora packager found libosip2 orphaned and decided it needed some
love and adopted it.
Little did he know the rabbit hole he was about to go down. ;-)

All things lead to linphone and as a result I have adopted:

- libosip2
- libeXosip2
- linphone

An integral dependency is the retired ortp. I would like to take ownership of
the package,
following the process[1].

The overall process as I see it maybe quite a brutal one, with:

- Major version updates
- soname bumps
- etc.

Hopefully when work is complete, we will have a working linphone stack. Please
be patient as
efforts progress.

Non-responsive rednotebook maintainer

2022-03-22 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi all,

Bug link: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2058475

I have posted the bug report above and emailed the maintainer directly offering
to co-maintain the
package concerned - rednotebook. No responses at all, though the maintainer is
active.

If Fabian Affolter (m...@fabian-affolter.ch) is active, please contact me to
discuss rednotebook,
its issues and maintenance.

Icon issues in a number of applications - f36 and rawhide

2022-03-13 Thread Philip Wyett
Hi,

Before the bug reports start, I thought I would ask opinion here as not my real
area of knowledge.

It seems that many applications running on GNOME under f36 and rawhide are
having icon issues.

Example 1: Under GNOME, rednotebook has no menu bar icons.

Example 2: Pitivi will fail to start[1] due to a missing icon.

Both issues are resolved by installing the gnome-icon-theme package.

People are aware of the issue that has recently arisen?

Hi,

You started this thread with supposed build failures. the -2 version of the
mass f36 rebuild is a
failure. Leave that as we have all have had issues with gcc 12 etc. etc. It is
nothing you need to
worry about. You have built a newer version -3, so the FTBFS bug on bugzilla
(if you have one) you
can be closed as rawhide.

Hi,

Looking at the build log, you are not building the latest - from log:

Wrote: /builddir/build/SRPMS/Carla-2.4.1-2.fc36.src.rpm

See: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=27931 and try

Hi all,

It seems remmina has been orphaned (see above). I already package remmina
personally for RHEL and
would be happy to package and maintain it for fedora, EPEL etc.

I am already in the packagers group and would only need to be given access.

Hi Neal,

Thank you for that. We all can make bad word choices on occasion and I admire
you for being a
person big enough to apologise. As my mother said "good, not perfect" and we
all make mistakes. You
have a great weekend and holidays.

Regards

Phil

Hi,

The reasoning is sound of what is being done currently, but to say people
choosing to use RHEL as
the base build platform as "nuts" is inappropriate, offensive and wrong. As a
person who is dealing
with mental health issues and quite bright, I take great offence at your
assertion my friend.
Please could you apologise for word usage please?

Regards

Phil

Hi,

I am in agreement here. EPEL has always used a community distro and I would
much prefer it be so
and AlmaLinux is the perfect choice for replacing CentOS here. I currently use
AlmaLinux for my
EPEL builds and believe it would raise fewer issues than a move to using RHEL.
