I'm not sure if the VMETA processor will help with .ogv (presumably
theora codec?) files, but it is worth a try.

Install
http://dev.laptop.org/~jnettlet/f17/vmeta/gstreamer-plugins-marvell-0.10-3.olpc.armv7hl.rpm
and
http://dev.laptop.org/~jnettlet/f17/vmeta/libvmeta-marvell-005-1.olpc.armv7hl.rpm

These might work in jukebox, but I've had better luck in whaawmp which
you can get from yum.

I tested these drivers in June last year on build 14, I don't know if
they will work in build 10, I do know we tested them shortly after some
necessary changes in the build.

If these drivers work but don't help your video files, you could
transcode then to a format that is accelerated by the VMETA hardware.

youtube's format 18 videos play well on an XO-1.75 with these drivers, I
use

youtube-dl -f 18 video url

to get them and then play in a video player. They don't play well in any
browser I've tried.

Unfortunately, we haven't paid the license fee for distributing those in a
general fashion,
and those RPMs have been removed for now. The business team is looking into
making
them available to deployments without incurring the wrath of MPEG-LA.

If you need a copy for testing, please contact me directly.

Sorry,

The SKU228 12.1.0 customised build 10 should be considered to be after
12.1.0 build 21 for the purposes of such comparison.

Also, as it was a customised build, it is difficult to know exactly
what was in it as far as drivers go. ;-)

I've been told by one of our developers that ogv or mp4 at 720x480 and
up to around 3 Mb/s bitrate is a suitable target for creating video
for XO-1.75 playback. XO-1 has quite different performance because of
the availability of MMX for decoding.

What are the additional (if this required?) steps to make any XO1.75 video
playable? Appreciate some help here as this is urgent for a coming deployment.

The XOs we have are SKU228

Re: Video on XO 1.75 (URGENT)

2013-03-04 Thread James Cameron
It would be instructive to see if the same .ogv files play correctly
on 13.1.0, because I think some work was done on the problem since
12.1.0.

XO-1 and XO-1.75 have very different video drivers and hardware, so a
difference is not unusual.

Can you provide a sample file for testing?

(For interest of other devel@ subscribers, XO-1.75 SKU228 included a
new eMMC chip that required a kernel patch 2f6e633, which is why the
released build for 12.1.0 can't be used on these units.)
