Here is some data from x11perf -shmput500 for comparison:
XFree86 4.3.0:
Dual Athlon 1800, AIW Radeon 7500 (QW)520/sec
Pentium III 700mhz AIW Radeon (QD)109/sec
XFree86 4.2.0:
Pentium III 500mhz Mobility P (Rage Pro) 228/sec
So there is still a problem with Pentium chipsets which (at least) halves
the performance. Btw, I do see some frame dropouts when using xine on my
Pentium III 700mhz machine - as DVD frame is larger than 500x500.
(Reminder: the problem is discussed in Athlon related mystery thread on
XFree86 devel list, and no, it is not Athlon only, and I do not believe it
to be specific to GATOS drivers).
