RE: [DDN] Australia to give away porn-filtering software to allfamilies
Salman Ansari writes: One set of software which works amazingly in LAN and individual home environments are Screen Shield and iShield from Guardware. Thank you Salman - My own experience is predominantly with WebSense which I also find to be a very effective filter. A Google tells me that iShield is available as a 30 day trial so I will d/l the product to see how well it performs. Re: [DDN] podcasts from the anytime, anywhere learning summit
Andy, I want to thank you for recording the sessions. I had to leave early and missed some. I do believe that many of the presentations will be available at the aalf.org site over the coming weeks and, while not as recordings, at least the .ppts will be accessible. I know mine will. Saul On Jun 24, 2006, at 9:10 AM, Andy Carvin wrote: There may be some at AALF.org. Also, it appeared that Gary Stager was recording sessions, but he's the only other person I noticed doing this. andy Hi Andy, Do you know of anyone else who is making recordings of this conference and putting them up anywhere? I wanted to attend, but circumstances prevented that. Thanks for this work. [DDN] telecentre for the blind in Uruguay
(please note that the person posting this to the Digital Divide Network has no further information about this project) UNESCO supported telecentre for the blind opened in Uruguay The Juan Antonio Lavalleja Public Library of Minas, the capital of the department of Lavalleja in Uruguay, hosts since last week a telecentre for visually impaired. The two room premises in the House of Culture with state-of-the art equipment was opened on 16 June. Private sector companies - ANTEL Telecommunication and SALUS/Danone - donated PCs with acoustic output, cassette recorders for audio books and a fast Internet access. UNESCO provided access to free educational software - Cantaletras and Toque Magico of the Catholic University Santiago, Chile - and offered printed books in Braille and 3D materials like geographical maps and texture games thanks to its cooperation with libraries for the blind in Buenos Aires and La Plata, Argentina. Earlier in 2005, UNESCO supported one of the only two public schools in whole Uruguay for the blind and visually impaired with PCs, free educational software, and a Braille printer and provided capacity building for teachers. http://portal.unesco.org/ci/en/ev.php-URL_ID=22399URL_DO=DO_TOPICURL_SECTION=201.html -- Ms. Jayne Cravens MSc Bonn, Germany Services for Mission-Based Orgs www.coyotecommunications.com International Development Studies Work www.coyotecommunications.com/development Contact me www.coyotecommunications.com/contact.html www.ivisit.com id: jcravens.4947 ___ DIGITALDIVIDE mailing list DIGITALDIVIDE@mailman.edc.org http://mailman.edc.org/mailman/listinfo/digitaldivide To unsubscribe, send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body of the message.
[DDN] URGENT Net Neutrality Action TODAY: Please send/fax these materials
Please send the following materials on net neutrality TODAY to Senators on the Commerce and Judiciary Committees. Send me a note if you'd like rich text files of these materials. Commerce resumes markup on the Stevens Bill tomorrow morning. We are working to make sure that language that addresses the nature of network neutrality is in front of as many of the interested legislators as possible. We believe that our proposal can move all parties to a fuller, more constructive understanding of this issue. PLEASE FAX these materials or similar to the contacts below. If you compose your own cover notes, I recommend including: 1) a mention of Steve Wozniak's endorsement, 2) something saying this proposal shows the real definition of net neutrality, and 3) a statement that net neutrality language needs to talk about the transport layer, not just applications, content and services -- that that basically means use the word packet. The Judiciary Committee has claimed it has oversight over the matters covered by the Stevens Bill, so there's a tiny text modification you can use in sending the same materials to them -- just replace the opening of the cover letter below with: Committee on the Judiciary United States Senate Dirksen Senate Office Building 224 Dirksen Senate Office Building 147 Washington, D.C. 20510-2603 Dear Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee: Please see the attached proposed legislative language for assuring network neutrality. We think that the Judiciary Committee will find it particularly interesting in light of the current discussion related to the Stevens Bill, currently in the Commerce Committee. Thanks, all! :-) Seth Suggested Text to Send: See below the following logistical details. Targets: 1) Your own Senators You can get detailed info for any Senator by replacing the NYJR in the following link with appropriate values for the particular Senator. [DDN] Getting to know Wikipedia
