Just out of curiosity...? (Hope this isn't a dumb question) .. But can
MFTTY be used to connect to a standard RTTY station..? Or is it just
for other stations using that program..? Thanks for any info. regarding

which version do you have?? date of the file??
norbert dropped me a mail where he said there was a mistake with center
frequence of the filter
he corrected the mistake and uploaded the new one to his homepage
simply download it again and delete the older one version number is still
3.0 ... so not easy to see if you have the newest version
do you guys know how the thing with the pilot tone works??? ... norbert
explained it to me in a mail
the pilot tone switches the receiving station to the right mode/speed
with lower speed the performance is much better with lower signal
if you see a pilottone just make a rectangle with your mousecursor round the
tone
hold the mousebutton pressed make your rectangle
the soft looks how long the rectangle is and on whitch frequence the pilottone
is
decoding should start very easy after that
hope i could help a bit

My first impression is positive. The software is very easy and intuitive

[digitalradio] FT-450 on digimodes

2009-01-07 Thread Sholto Fisher
Hi all,

I picked up a new Yaesu FT-450 over Xmas and have discovered that the
transmit passband seems very uneven to me. Using the same settings, i.e.
audio drive, USB DATA mode, constant RF POWER selection - a single tone
from the soundcard at 500Hz could produce 20W, a tone at 1000Hz 7W, a
tone at 1500Hz produces only 3W output and at 2000Hz it is down to 1.8W.

The interface is a Signalink SL-1+ and I know it works fine because I
have used this same interface (and soundcard) with an FT-897D for years
without problem.

Has anyone else got an FT-450 on this group and could do a similar test
to see whether it is just my rig that has the problem or it is these
radios in general? The firmware in mine is 0194.

Power out in CW mode is 100W without difficulty.

I suppose using PSK31 the problem is not severe but wide bandwidth modes
like ALE or MT63 e.t.c., could be a real problem.

Other than this the FT-450 seems a very nice little rig and at $616 from
AES was too good to resist. The RX is very nice but you need to play
with the DSP a bit to get the most out of it. Surprisingly (at least to
me) it is superb on AM SWL broadcast too.

Thanks es 73,

Sholto

Q1 With ALE can 'I' send a message via a second station ... eg send to

assuming the station -m0bos- knows how to contact g0abc .. on the

which version do you have?? date of the file??
norbert dropped me a mail where he said there was a mistake with center
frequence of the filter
he corrected the mistake and uploaded the new one to his homepage
simply download it again and delete the older one version number is still
3.0 ... so not easy to see if you have the newest version
do you guys know how the thing with the pilot tone works??? ... norbert
explained it to me in a mail
the pilot tone switches the receiving station to the right mode/speed
with lower speed the performance is much better with lower signal
if you see a pilottone just make a rectangle with your mousecursor round the
tone
hold the mousebutton pressed make your rectangle
the soft looks how long the rectangle is and on whitch frequence the pilottone
is
decoding should start very easy after that

The text relay command is called Forward.

Alan,

Why do you prefer the SlimJim over the J-Pole?

LB Cebik did an in depth comparison of the two antennas and found the
J-Pole to be slightly better in performance.

Recently, our club had a J-Pole antenna building party and it was
difficult to get them tuned up where we wanted them using TV twinlead.

My best success with homebrew verticals has been when I used 450 ohm
slotted line, but I have never tried building the SlimJim's. Maybe they
are easier to match?

How about building one? It doesn't get much cheaper or easier than this one:

http://www.hamuniverse.com/2metergp.html

And as far as I can tell, they work as good or better than any j-pole
because you don't need any choke to keep the RF off the feedline.

You might also find this one to be of interest...
