[digitalradio] Outdoor screen viewing?

2009-07-04 Thread Briggs Longbothum
What has anyone found to be handy and effective to enable good screen viewing
outdoors, in daylight, etc?? Has anyone tried any versions of those wide
screen goggles (I know you might need a pc to TV adapter). I like to play
/p but digimodes are difficult in daylight with a regular pc/laptop. And
good ideas that work? I'd be willing to invest in googles if they work but
need to know what does and what doesn't first. All replies graciously received
with thanks in advance.

so we developed the Wrap program, which sends a checksum at the end
of the message, and error-free reception can be verified that way.

Hi Skip.

From the Packet Radio times, we have a 7plus utility, which splits a longer
binary file to multiple parts and adds mild error detection / correction
codes. After you receive all parts and run them through 7plus, if there are
errors, the application will generate a request message, which will identify
missing parts to be repeated.

You need either common display and shade, or common display with very strong
backlight, or transreflexive display.

Some PDAs and Smart Phones are equipped with transreflexive displays. They are
well readable in strong sunlight. One example is my old iPaq 3630. I think
generally the PDAs and Smartphones are more likely to be designed to be
readable outdoors than laptops.

If you need just PSK31, the display of NUE-PSK will work great.

Has anyone tried any versions of those wide screen goggles (I know you

This sounds like overkill to me.

I know this sounds goofy but, when we operate /p or /r, I sometimes use a
custom cardboard box to put shield laptop...works fine and a whole lot
cheaper than buying a toughbook.

That's neat, Vojtech. Is there a link to download 7plus? WRAP only
calculates a checksum for the entire file, and if it will not unwrap,
we just resend the whole file.

I cannot understand why you don't use the pskmail arq binary mail attachment
feature for this.
7 plus was developed for the ancient packet BBS system around 1978 (which means
it is 30 years old). We have more modern protocols now...

Using the mail attachment system has a lot of advantages for NBEMS work. It
allows
you to comment the file in the same message, which makes archiving and
retrieval
a lot easier than ftp.
