They are holding back the .NET and JX versions as commercial, and the rest
is being open sourced under GPL2. More here:

Interesting news. Sounds
like a double edged sword to me: it takes
care of the "but CF is expensive" argument
but it may also cannibalize sales from Adobe.
 Good for developers I guess...

RE: [ACFUG Discuss] Blue Dragon Goes Open Source

2008-03-10 Thread John Mason
And the smithproject.org..

CF having multiple vendors and multiple versions some open source others
enterprise level is a good thing. Means more people can use CF technology
which means more people will need programmers and consultants that
understand the technology.

Flex is open source. Perhaps Adobe will consider CF one day.

[ACFUG Discuss] Blue Dragon and Able Commerce?

I can only wish that one day that the two product will merge and
 support one another...

Oh, God, no no no NO NO NO NO!!

Lord, I know I've done You wrong before. I know I've had my differences
with You in the past and not done as You'd wished from time to time. And
I'm deeply sorry, Lord, *deeply* sorry, if I've offended You in any way, and
I thank You for showing me the Light.

I know now that I should have never invented the Puppy Trebuchet, had them
manufactured by child slave labor in China, and sold them at an obscene
profit to the idle rich. I know that now, because You've showed me The Way.

I know now, Dear Lord, that it is not right to initiate dozens of
simultaneous office pools around Atlanta on which employee can give the boss
Herpes the fastest, take 10% For The House, and use that money to finance
underground Free First Taste Of Crack Day for middle schoolers. You've
shown me that it's wrong.

But Lord, if You have any mercy left in You for the wretch that is me... If
You can forgive me just one more time... If You can do one thing for me,
then please please *PLEASE* don't ever let Adobe get their hands on
BlueDragon.NET, Lord, please.

Please keep them apart, Dear Lord, so that the pristine nature of
BlueDragon.NET is not sullied. So that it remains a shining beacon of CFML
performance when loads get heavy. So that we, it's disciples, can hear The
Voice Of Reason when we need support, and not have to wait for generations
in hopeless bondage. So that freedom of choice may reign.

Thank you, and Amen.

RE: [ACFUG Discuss] Blue Dragon and Able Commerce?

2007-01-19 Thread Robert Reil
Unfortunately I dont know how I will find the time either. Maybe Cody has an
interest in it but I know he is swamped like I am.

FWIW: He made the comment to me that I am about the only person he knows
that is as busy as he is... lol..

So I would like to know if the info is there but what i have runs. at this
time, but if I knew it would run then I would be tempted to look into it.

I don't know if it works or not. It's not on our list of test applications,
and I'm not aware of any specific problems reported with it. I don't think
we have the manpower to start testing it ourselves prior to the BD 7.0
Release Candidate. But, if you want to give it try either now on BD 7.0
beta2 or on the Release Candidate, then we'll certainly investigate any
problems you might find.

No we have not tried it since last year.

Cody: What problems did you find with it back then?

Vince. Is it supposed to work now with AC CFMX5.5 Cart now?

What problems are you having running Able Commerce on BD? Have you tried it
on the latest BD 7.0 beta2?

If this is the case, what is the possibility of Able Commerce ever running
on BD?

Re: RE: RE: RE: [ACFUG Discuss] Blue Dragon

2006-11-23 Thread Steven Ross

Teddy made that sound harder than it is! Drop the mysql connector jar
in the proper cfmx lib directory and then specify your db like below.

CF Data Source Name (whatever you want)
JDBC URLjdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/dbname
Driver Classcom.mysql.jdbc.Driver
Driver Name (whatever you want)

Being that this application is extreamly basic, I think I will just try the
one in CF admin and if I can't get it to work for some reason try the other.
Basically all this thing needs to do is insert one record into a single
table and then upload an image that associated with the data. I'm assuming I
need to handle the image upload with cfftp rather than cffile.

Thanks again for the replies.

I would probably recommend using the drivers from mysql.org even for earlier
versions. The JDBC drivers provided with CF work fine, but I noticed that
in my previous adventures in querying MySQL databases, that the JConnector
did offer better error messages and more compatibility. The down side is
that you have to configure the application a little bit more with a
connection string. The process is pretty well documented though.

As for the version you need to check what is running if it is v5 you
have to download the driver and call it through jdbc.

Ahhh in this case the MySQL box is several states away :)
probably
be slow like this but it will only be used to do 1 insert query a day for
just one record so I don't think the sluggishness will be too much of a
problem. Thanks again for all the replies.

I do this exact thing all the time, except the mysql server is on the
same LAN as the cf application server :)

You can certainly do that. You just need a user on the mysql box that
will let you connect and the firewall has to be setup to let traffic
in on 3306 (or whatever port your running mysql on).

Teddy one thought though is maybe I run just this application on a
  shared
server. Do you know if there is a way to access a remote MySQL
  database
(one running on the linux server) with CF? Could an DSN be made on the
shared server that could update the MySQL database which resides on a
  remote
   server on a different network?

I have not worked with MySQL before but something tells me that I
  think I
remember researching this once and determining it couldn't be done.

Thanks for your previous reply and any suggestions you may have.

What about hosting the site on an application service provider? You
  don't
have to budget for the CF license then. Is the client firm on the
  fact that
the Linux server must house the site?
