Re: how to install pyenv-virtualenv on windows

2021-01-10 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi Sohail,
I read your interest for pipenv in Windows. Seems are wasting precious time and
not productive because of this pipenv tool, which is not even the point of
Django.

If that keeps resulting complicated, may I suggest you to use venv which comes
integrated in recent Python installation. You have to install nothing else
other than Python.

I code Python in Windows using venv - no issues.

In your desired folder, to create virtual environment:
python -m venv the-name-of-my-virtual environment

Usually I do this (yes, I put a dot in name of my virtual environment):
python -m venv .venv

Then, using gitbash, to activate virtual environment in Windows (assuming you
are in same desired folder):
. \.venv\Scripts\activate

If not using gitbash, enter to folder .venv\Scripts and run activate - it’s a
.bat program

That should work.
Regards,

---
Gerardo

Re: Help in designing excel like sheet in Django/python

2020-04-10 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi,
I used in the past the following library:
https://bossanova.uk/jexcel/v3/

It enables you to incorporate kind-of Excel spreadsheet so users feels in home;
it basically reacts to changes on cells/rows and you decide what to do. It
really has lots of good features.

On our case, an internal REST API (in .NET) provided and received the data.
Frontend in jQuery managed the rest.

Good luck.

Re: Link a .css to a Html template

2019-12-02 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi,
You better share your repo, my guess is you are not sharing all details...

On my case I integrated a template with a Django project as a practice ( my
repo: https://github.com/gpalazuelosg/django-adminlte ), the important bits:

#1: settings.py has at the end two entries:
STATIC_URL = '/static/'
STATICFILES_DIRS = (os.path.join(BASE_DIR,'static'),)

#2: I have an "static" folder at the same level as manage.py, which has
another folder called "base" inside

#3: inside the /static/base folder, I have the following folders containing
pertinent files as you might imagine:
css
js
img
plugins

#4: On my layout.html file, I use the following:
{% load static %}
...

This is how it looks:

I hopes that helps.

hi Tom,
Not sure what exactly configuration you have, but text you sent says you

I don't use python 2.7, so my following suggestions considers a recent

May i suggest you to check djangogirls for proper installation.
Also:

Re: Changing Admin Interface in Django

2019-04-11 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
hi,
You said you want to change the standard Admin screens.
But you added an screenshot of a bootstrap template.
So I assume you are interested on using an Admin template.
If that's the case, what you can do is to implement the template: adding
files as static files, etc.

Hi,
Is there any chance that you can use a Virtual Environment?
At least in my experience, many issues happened to me because due to issues
resolving the proper python version in my computer, until I started using a
virtual environment per django project.

I suggest you to check the django girls tutorial, yes, it really helped out
in my beginnings.

good luck,

Re: Django production deployment on my VPS

hi Kamal,
In the course I did, we moved files using FTP.
In reality, you can use SSH / SCP, FTP or git repository (on the latter,
remember to avoid uploading any sensitive info to repository).

Whatever method you use, please consider first setting up a firewall and
proper firewall rules to minimize attacks.

I hopes that helps.
Gerardo.

Re: Isolated virtualenv and mod_wsgi - how do I do this on Apache

2018-06-28 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
hi Bruce,
I found this link as part of a django training I did in a udemy course (
https://www.udemy.com/the-ultimate-beginners-guide-to-django-python-web-dev-website
).
Link is:
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-django-with-postgres-nginx-and-gunicorn-on-ubuntu-16-04

I hopes that helps you.

hi,
I highly suggest you to check the django-girls tutorial (search for it) for

It has the more detailed steps to help you understand during your initial

Re: Newbie : Best data archive strategy

2018-06-12 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi Mickael,
When I read Archive, in my mind is a different thing, not the same as
audit. So, for one moment, think about situation/scenario you are working
on.

Archive is to manage data purge from my transactional tables; this means I
want to "delete" data (that has not more value) or I want to "move" data to
an archive system (data is still relevant and useful).

Audit is to create a perfect tracking of transitions on value overtime.
This is required due to special regulations you have.

So, it might be useful if you clarify what is the scenario you are trying
to solve.

Regards,
Gerardo.

Hi Subhani
There many online resources, and free.
When I started, I did the djangogirls tutorial. It worked really well for me (I
had experience with other frameworks). It was for Django 1.11, but it is still
relevant if you want to understand the overall concepts.

I invite you to take a look to that tutorial.

Re: Beginning Django.

2018-04-28 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi
A quick online tutorial? The Django girls tutorial is very good, use Django
1.11 (LTS). Also is free.

A good book but long? There is a good one Python TDD (Oreilly publisher) by
Harry Percival. I’m enjoying too much. It use Django 1.11 (LTS).

One Django 2.0 I can see Django By Example (Packt publisher) by Antonio Melé.
It seems awesome.

I hopes this helps.

Re: export sql query to excel

2018-04-16 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
hi,
I don´t have this github, so let me try to show you what I do.
Sorry if I´m not applying best practices, but this is working on my side; I
run this manually from cmd in Windows 10 (no django on this).

Content of my requirements.txt:
et-xmlfile==1.0.1
jdcal==1.3
openpyxl==2.5.1
pyodbc==4.0.22

This is something optional I did. I extracted my database connection from
the simple py file:
import pyodbc

class connection:
conn = None

def get_connection(self):
self.conn = pyodbc.connect(
r'DRIVER={ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server};'

I want to recommend you to check it out, it will guide you on how to run the

Re: Python and Django traing

2017-08-26 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi,
I'm on the same situation, still learning.

Besides the ones mentioned (I specially liked a lot the DjangoGirls tutorial),
there quite few others where you can continue your progress.

Let me suggest you to visit the twoscoopofdjango (I hopes name is correct)
site, then navigate to Resources page. You will find an interesting list where
some free tutorials are mentioned.

Also in Udemy, check for free tutorials from Justin Mitchell. He have free
Django courses, it's fantastic.

After doing those, my personal current Django stage is reading the Harry
Percival's new book --- check is website: obeythetestinggoat.com.

(Note: I have nothing particular nor relation with mentioned sites or persons).

I hopes that helps.
Gerardo.

Re: Build Django Blog

2017-08-26 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
Hi Zayden,
I don't have an answer for your question. But seems you need a definition and
conceptual idea of what a blog should be.

If that is the case, maybe you want to check what the Wordpress Post features
are or buddy press features.

The are quite few systems providing those features.

Regards.

Re: django hosting / Email Account

2017-08-24 Thread Gerardo Palazuelos Guerrero
hi,
For sure not from pythonanywhere.com

Your domain registrar may have some free emails accounts (like godaddy
which allows you to create email accounts for your domain purchased with
them).

Otherwise, you will have to buy the service (like in gmail for business or
in fastmail.com)
