drm/nouveau: Don't clear AGPCMD completely on INIT_RESET.

We just need to clear the SBA and ENABLE bits to reset the AGP
controller: If the AGP bridge was configured to use "fast writes",
clearing the FW bit would break the subsequent MMIO writes and
eventually end with a lockup.

Note that all the BIOSes I've seen do the same as we did (it works for
them because they don't use MMIO), OTOH the blob leaves FW untouched.

Judging by the extended debug info in:

   http://nerdbynature.de/bits/2.6.39-rc4/oom/
   (The -9 files are the current ones)

that thing shows a _lot_ of xfs inodes:

  xfs_inode 479187 479187   1120   144 : tunables0

even though there aren't that many dentries (each inode should have at
least one dentry associated with it under normal circumstances):

and then later when the system gets low on memory, the dentries shrink:

but the XFS inodes do not:

so I suspect it's some kind of XFS inode leak.

No, I guess the problem here is that acer_wmi doesn't support this
machine yet. I told the ACER WMI maintainer and sent a DSDT image,
but this message was thoroughly ignored.

Hrm, then it's really hard to say how exactly the system behaves when
lbpc=0...  I guess we should avoid controlling LBPC in such a case,
e.g. something like the patch below (totally untested).

But Intel guys must know of this better... I leave this to their
hands.

This change does *not* work on my machine. The screen stays black
again.

Yes, backlight adjustment generally works on this notebook, but only
with "acpi_osi=Linux" on the command line.

Well, this was just my wild guess.  I remember vaguely that the value
zero could be interpreted as the max.  It might be depending on the
hardware.

So, the patch below may work better in your case.

Also, with the patch, does the backlight level can be adjusted
correctly to different values?  I wonder whether LBPC adjustment
really works or not on your machine.

The two issues in the bug report are unrelated.  The Toshiba A300 issue is a
duplicate of bug 36007 (which is s duplicate of bug 35502) , and for the T500
user, it's probably a vgaswitcherro issue.  Try explicitly enabling the
discrete card in your bios config.  If you are still having problems, open
another bug for your issue.

After upgrading from Maverick to Natty, this machine (now running via a Live
CD) becomes unbootable. The boot process seems to start off OK, but then
finishes with an "aubergine screen of death" with a solid blue line at the top
(see attached photo). I have tried the upgrade via both apt and the live CD but
the two methods fail in the same way. Trying to boot via the fail safe mode
also results in a system freeze (black screen of death this time!)

Also:

Tried again this morning, with the newly released final released. I was very
disappointed to see that the problem remains. I wonder how many first time
Linux users will have this as their very first Ubuntu experience.

32bit misrendering(color flip and 64bit segfaults of glxgears when
--enable-shared-glapi.

Bug appears both with r300c and r300g. Talked with somebody before about exact
reulsts with r600g, so maybe all drivers are affected?

--disable-shared-glapi fixes problem
 Only some simple mesa demos,glxgears,teapot) and neverball are affected by
this bug. Most of games like SuperTuxKart or Quake 3 Arena runs fine.

One thing you could try as another quick test is to use xtrace on a  
opengl app. I remember seeing weird results for the msc or ust fields  
(i believe) of decoded and printed DRI2SwapComplete events. I always  
thought part of my toolchain was just out of sync, but maybe it was  
just the result of the wrong size/padding.

Hrm, then it's really hard to say how exactly the system behaves when
lbpc=0...  I guess we should avoid controlling LBPC in such a case,
e.g. something like the patch below (totally untested).

But Intel guys must know of this better... I leave this to their
hands.

No, I guess the problem here is that acer_wmi doesn't support this
machine yet. I told the ACER WMI maintainer and sent a DSDT image,
but this message was thoroughly ignored.

The original bug description is:

After upgrading from Maverick to Natty, this machine (now running via a Live
CD) becomes unbootable. The boot process seems to start off OK, but then
finishes with an aubergine screen of death with a solid blue line at the top
(see attached photo). I have tried the upgrade via both apt and the live CD but
the two methods fail in the same way. Trying to boot via the fail safe mode
also results in a system freeze (black screen of death this time!)

Also:

Tried again this morning, with the newly released final released. I was very
disappointed to see that the problem remains. I wonder how many first time
Linux users will have this as their very first Ubuntu experience.

The two issues in the bug report are unrelated.  The Toshiba A300 issue is a
duplicate of bug 36007 (which is s duplicate of bug 35502) , and for the T500
user, it's probably a vgaswitcherro issue.  Try explicitly enabling the
discrete card in your bios config.  If you are still having problems, open
another bug for your issue.

drm/nouveau: Don't clear AGPCMD completely on INIT_RESET.

We just need to clear the SBA and ENABLE bits to reset the AGP
controller: If the AGP bridge was configured to use fast writes,
clearing the FW bit would break the subsequent MMIO writes and
eventually end with a lockup.

Note that all the BIOSes I've seen do the same as we did (it works for
them because they don't use MMIO), OTOH the blob leaves FW untouched.

Fog in Unigine Sanctuary is not rendered properly, there are some stripes in
the fog, which weren't present before. Screenshot attached.

r300/compiler: Rewrite register allocator

The new allocator uses ra and does swizzle packing.

Also, a data structure (struct rc_variable) and associated functions have
been added for generating UD and DU chains.

This may also be related to the floating textures, since the fog wasn't
rendered at all before the floating work was committed.

Judging by the extended debug info in:

   http://nerdbynature.de/bits/2.6.39-rc4/oom/
   (The -9 files are the current ones)

that thing shows a _lot_ of xfs inodes:

  xfs_inode 479187 479187   1120   144 : tunables0
00 : slabdata  34329  34329  0

even though there aren't that many dentries (each inode should have at
least one dentry associated with it under normal circumstances):

  dentry 97896  97900160   251 : tunables0
00 : slabdata   3916   3916  0

and then later when the system gets low on memory, the dentries shrink:

  dentry  1017   3525160   251 : tunables0
00 : slabdata141141  0

but the XFS inodes do not:

  xfs_inode 557579 557579   1120   144 : tunables0
00 : slabdata  41492  41492  0

so I suspect it's some kind of XFS inode leak.
