The Mar 10 games are the ones that pointed me towrds 5.1.1. I'm using
reacent video drivers, from DRI snapshot.

I seam to get some luck removing gta3.set from the saved game folder,
but with how unstable everything is luck is all I get.
I'll try and compare a working run with a failed run, but what would I
compare?
The screen is black for the title page and the menu. Moves are only
slow and are visable with sound. I hit space twice as cedega
recomends
to skip the slow movies.
Even the cedega memory-usage overlay is not shown.

I got it!!
I had to hack the binary file gta3.set.
dd if=/dev/zero of=gta3.set bs=1652 count=1
After that the game would start, but you can not play. You need to go
into the Control and Audio pages and reset them to default. Do NOT set
Display options to default, but instead only adjust(I max) the distance
setting. I also turn on subtitles.
Then that game loads and runs fine.
