Re: [Dspace-devel] help me with vagrant

Hi Luigi,

I found this, which includes a workaround:

https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/issues/2392

Anyway, VirtualBox 4.3 is very new, came out only about a week ago, so I'd
still use the older release. Even though in a development environment it
doesn't matter so much, except an occasional error like yours :)

 Currently you can import a structure but not export it. That would be handy for scripting.

Way to replicate: 1) Add a couple of items to a collection 2) Set column archived=f in the item table 3) Export metadata CSV The user will receive a silent error. The full stack trace is eaten so it is difficult to find where the problem originates. The problem is this line in DSpaceCSV.java: String owningCollectionHandle = i.getOwningCollection().getHandle(); The i object is never validated before this call.

 Arithmetic values computed by an SQL aggregate function (such as SUM) are returned as NUMERIC and can overflow (Java) Integer. Extend TableRow to add support for NUMERIC and DECIMAL types by providing conversion to (Java) BigDecimal. See
DS-494
 for a previous attempt, later reverted by
DS-823

[Dspace-devel] DSpace Dev Mtg Tomorrow @ 20:00 UTC and JIRA Backlog Hour @ 19:00 UTC

2013-10-29 Thread Tim Donohue
All,

As usual, we have a DSpace Developers Meeting tomorrow (Weds, Oct 30) in
the #duraspace IRC channel at 20:00 UTC. To determine your local time,
check the world clock:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?hour=20min=0sec=0p1=0

The agenda is posted on our Developer meetings page at:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Developer+Meetings

The notes from last week's meeting are also available off of the
Meeting Archives area of that page.

As always, all our meetings are public. We welcome any developers or
non-developers to attend or just read along with the chat discussions.

If you are unable to attend, you can always add your own notes/thoughts
on any agenda item to the above wiki page.

== JIRA Backlog Hour ==

Immediately prior to our Developers Meeting, at 19:00 UTC, we will be
holding a JIRA Backlog Hour in #dspace IRC (note it will be in #dspace
and NOT #duraspace).

During this meeting, developers who are available will begin to work
together to tackle our backlog of Received tickets/bug reports in
JIRA. We'll be looking to do a quick analysis of tickets to help move
them along through our workflow. Anyone is welcome to join us (and you
are more than welcome to just join mid-meeting as well).

It's a great way to learn about how we work together to support DSpace,
and also a great way to contribute to DSpace software. Plus, you'll be
helping all of us to determine which tickets (old and new) could use
extra love  attention.

Our current JIRA Received backlog is at:
https://jira.duraspace.org/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?reset=truejqlQuery=project+%3D+DS+AND+status+%3D+Received+ORDER+BY+key+ASC%2C+priority+DESC

We hope to see you in IRC!

Thanks,

Tim Donohue

[Dspace-devel] Odd code in DatabaseManager

2013-10-29 Thread Mark H. Wood
I see this in initialize():

if (isOracle)
{
if
(!StringUtils.isEmpty(ConfigurationManager.getProperty(db.postgres.schema)))
{
sqlOnBorrow = SET SEARCH_PATH TO  +
ConfigurationManager.getProperty(db.postgres.schema).trim();
}
}

Two things seem odd:

o It's doubtful that this would ever do anything. Why would someone
   set db.postgres.schema if he's using Oracle?

o Should we be using PostgreSQL settings in Oracle commands?

I guess that this is setting up the query used to test the database
connection when borrowing from the pool. I thought that the canonical
validation query for Oracle was SELECT 1 FROM DUAL. (For PostgreSQL
I believe it's SELECT 1.) Probably we should either just hardwire
these or have a generic db.validationQuery string that's always set
into the pool if it is coded.

[digs a little deeper]

In fact DataSourceInit.getDataSource() sets up the pool to use one of
the canonical validation queries shown above. So the pool should be
handling validation. DatabaseManager.getConnection() is doing an
*additional* validation if sqlOnBorrow is not empty (and it may never
be non-empty). It looks like there is wasted code we could remove
from getDataSource().

Comments?

BTW if you supply a ConnectionPool through JNDI you set it up however
you may before handing it to DSpace, and all this is bypassed. So if
you want a validation query in this case, you should be sure to set one.

  turn off manage_firewall and set version number for PostgreSQL Puppet Module

 The PostgreSQL Puppet module used in Vagrant-DSpace just went through a big revision (see DS-1734). To minimize future surprises, we should set the version number of the module. The latest version of this module also appears to be more strict about trying to manage a firewall, even if one is not present, which creates an error condition with Vagrant-DSpac...
