Thanks for that Van; I'd been racking my brain for that ever since you
mentioned it. Now that you have, I've found a message in the archive
http://www.nabble.com/forum/ViewPost.jtp?post=23230629framed=y,
which suggests that you also need to set

webui.feed.localresolve =  true

and that the handle.canonical.prefix setting will only apply to new
items; existing items will have to be modified manually. Is this true?
If so, where?

[Dspace-tech] Question about indexing and metadata search

2009-08-06 Thread Rafael Henkin
Hi all,

I have a doubt about searching metadata in DSpace.

We currently have one community with items that have
dc.description metadata, and there isn't a search index specific to this
metadata. However, the results can still be found via simple search, so I
suppose that the search is done across all metadata.

The problem is that there seems to be a problem with encoding, or
with the analyzer. There's one word which includes an ö in this field, and,
if it used the DSAnalyzer (of which we use a modified version that correctly
uses the Latin1 accent filter for every other indexed metadata), it should be
the same searching o or ö. However, results are different when we search
for the word (in this case, mössbauer) with or without the accent.

So the question is: can I do anything about it? Should I add a
index for this metadata so it's indexed properly with the analyzer? Because
other than that I don't know what the problem is. It should be noted that the
indexed fields have their accents removed correctly (if the word is in a title,
which is an indexed field, o or ö bring the same result).

Thanks,

Rafael Henkin

Re: [Dspace-tech] Question about indexing and metadata search

2009-08-06 Thread Rafael Henkin

Sorry about this, but I have made a mistake and dc.description is actually
indexed. Still, the problem remains because you can only search it via the
generic search (ANY), and specific search yields the correct results (as I
said, in titles, for example).

Thanks and sorry again.

Hi Sue,

Lucene (the search system used by DSpace) is 'stemming' the words
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stemming). It indexes the stem of the word (in
this case propel) so that it can find similar words (engine will find engines
etc).

A User emailed me and told me he was getting some incorrect search results in
DSpace 1.5.1. Here is the advanced search he did:

Title = propeller

Along with documents where the title contained the word propeller, he also
got lots of documents where the title contained the word propellant. I tried
it and got the same results. I also tried looking for propeller NOT
propellant and then got *no* results.

I thought maybe Lucene was cutting off the er and/or ant, but couldn't find
this anywhere in the documentation. Does anyone know what might be going on?

Thanks,
Sue

You're correct. You cannot set a password for an eperson even if you are an
Administrator.

I don't know if this is the proper way to do it, but once you define a new
eperson, you can let them know to click on Forgot password on the site and
from there they can set an initial password. They will then be able to log in
to DSpace.

[Dspace-tech] messages.xml changes not being reflected

2009-08-06 Thread Shane Beers
I am working on a new theme for our instance of DSpace 1.5.2, and
editing the files directly in the test installation's [dspace]/webapps/
xmlui/ directory, which is where Tomcat is pointed to load localhost:

My changes to the .css files within the /themes/[customtheme]/lib
directory are reflected on a reload of the page, which is great.
However, if I edit the messages.xml file in /xmlui/i18n/, these
changes are not reflected on a reload, nor are they reflected after I
restart Tomcat.

Am I missing something obvious?

Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-general] Confusion In Export

2009-08-06 Thread Stuart Lewis
Hi Hardik,

A normal export will export all of the items concerned, with all of
their metadata. The export could be edited and re-imported back into the
repository to update items.

The migrate export option will do the same, expect it removes any
system-generated metadata such as handle, provenance information and
ingest dates. This export can be used to import the same items into a
different repository that will want to create its own metadata such as
the handle and ingestion date.

I hope that helps,
