[Dspace-tech] Upload of Bibliographic Data
Hello! Maybe this has been solved in the past and I'm just unable to find it. Then a pointer would be helpful. Given, I have a set of bibliographic records in BibTeX or EndNote format. Given also, these records contain associations with locally stored PDF files. That is, I end up with an association of Metadata and the digital objects in either BibTeX or EndNote/RIS format. Given, I want to import all this right away into DSpace, and ideally, I'd allow the user himself to do this. Some Upload my bibliography. Are there tools for this available yet? Point is: DSpace ingest is done nicely, but graphically and I've to key in a lot of data. It is acutally quite time consuming. On the other hand, most scientists have the bibliographic data already at hand as they use them in their publication process. It is a bit difficult to explain them that it is required to key them in again into some web forms and that the only automatism is copy paste. A more concrete example. Say you work in High Energy Physics. You submit your papers ot arXiv.org, anyway. Now, if I want all these papers in the local repository as well the best way to go would be to either * Fetch the bibliographic data from arXiv by means of OAI-PMH (trivial) and move them on to DSpace (how?). Hook up the PDF and the ingest is done. (Similar things hold for PubMed btw.) I could imagine an upload by ID where you could just key in the arXiv(pubmed)-number, the rest can be done by the system automatically. * Use the authors local BibTeX record, upload that one to DSpace, hook up the PDF done again. Does such a system exist already? I think it would improve usability for the endusers (and therefore acceptance) considerably. -- Kind regards, Alexander Wagner Subject Specialist Central Library 52425 Juelich mail : a.wag...@fz-juelich.de phone: +49 2461 61-1586 Fax : +49 2461 61-6103 http://www.fz-juelich.de/zb/mitarbeiter/fachinformation#wagner Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH 52425 Juelich Sitz der Gesellschaft: Juelich Eingetragen im Handelsregister des Amtsgerichts Dueren Nr. [Dspace-tech] UPDATE: DSpace online community event: Outstanding issues for 1.6 - Tuesday 1st September 2009 6PM GMT
Dear DSpace community member: First a big thank you to all the community members who joined in with the first of the meetings we held earlier this week to go through the outstanding bugs and issues in JIRA for DSpace version 1.6. The meeting was very successful and we managed to cover about 1/3rd of the issues. A log of the meeting is available at http://duraspace.org/irclogs/index.php?date=2009-08-25 We have decided to hold a further two meetings at the same time / same place, over the next two weeks (on Tuesdays, at 18:00 GMT). We really would value your time and input. Without it we will won¹t know in which directions to focus our developments. If you have bugs to report or new features to contribute, please get these submitted to JIRA before the event. If you would like to get more involved with the technical development of DSpace, please come along and volunteer to address some of the issues that we examine. The event will take place online in the #duraspace IRC room. Details of how to access this can be found at http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/DSpaceResources#IRC_channel The next event is scheduled to start at 18:00 *GMT* on Tuesday 1st September. A set of instructions about how the meeting will be run and which issues are still to be examined is available on the wiki. Please take a look in preparation for the meeting. If you would like to contribute but are unable to attend on the day, please leave comments in the JIRA items, or use the voting feature in JIRA. - http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/JIRA_Cleanup Thanks, Stuart Lewis IT Innovations Analyst and Developer Te Tumu Herenga The University of Auckland Library Auckland Mail Centre, Private Bag 92019, Auckland 1142, New Zealand Ph: 64 9 373-7599 x81928 http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz/ -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Re: [Dspace-tech] U. Minho Stats package error
Hello Daniel, That did the trick. I just did as you said by dropping the 6 tables and re-creating them with longer character restrictions. Not sure but I think it may have related to the dc.rights field, which seems to be collected by the stats package to show items accessed by 'access type', but in our case we use the dc.rights field to record copyright information, so naturally it wasn't what the system was expecting. I'm not too concerned that this stat doesn't work, the system simply doesn't display it. You've saved me countless hours, thanks again. Expanding the field_value column in the following tables should fix the error when aggregating (we set ours to 2000 chars but that's probably overkill): stats.view_metadata_month stats.view_metadata_coll_month stats.view_metadata_comm_month stats.download_metadata_month stats.download_metadata_coll_month stats.download_metadata_comm_month If you use non-standard metadata fields you may also want to check that it's indexing the correct fields. I think by default it does date.issued, title, and contributor.author. But if you've moved/edited fields it may be looking in the wrong place. Baseer, Jayan's suggestion is the way to go. Alternatively, I've used a process involving a couple of PHP scripts and Excel that was developed by someone else. Baseer-- If you're interested in the DSpace batch submission command line function detailed here, Item Importer and Exporter: http://www.dspace.org/1_5_2Documentation/ch09.html#N13795 Then let me suggest an Excel tool that makes the process of creating submission packages very easy. Detailed directions available on our wiki, with a download link at the bottom of the page: http://sites.google.com/a/ohiolink.edu/drmc/bulk-submission If however you're interested in non-Dublin Core descriptive metadata, you'll want to read the DSpace documentation, Metadata Schema Registry: http://www.dspace.org/1_5_2Documentation/ch05.html#N11B71 And the good folks at the Texas Digital Library have an excellent set of instructions here: What if I need to import metadata in a schema other than Dublin Core? http://www.tdl.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/DSpaceBatchImportFormat.pdf I hope this helps, John Davison OhioLINK DRC Khan, Baseer wrote: Hello , I need to bulk import data into Dspace , Is there any possible ways of doing it other than manually doing it one by one . Hello , I have successfully installed the Summer code and tested it on the sample file and it works great . Now the question I have is I have a excel file in which the arguments of the source file ( which is cEJ) are different , I have tweaked the code by changing the identifiers but it did not work . Can you tell me what additional changes I have to make to the code to make it running for my file . For your reference I am adding the file in this message. Thank you, Baseer.
