[Dspace-tech] Event notification : Repository Fringe 2010: 2/3 September

2010-06-22 Thread TAYLOR Robin
Apologies for cross-posting

 Repository Fringe 2010: 2/3 September

   http://www.repositoryfringe.org/

 #rfringe10

Registration is now open!

Enjoying two successful years, Repository Fringe is back for the third time...
and this year we have moved to the end of the Edinburgh Festival, and to the
National eScience Centre.

Always innovative, and always looking forward, this year we are looking at the
OPEN: Open Data; Open Access; Open Learning; Open Knowledge; Open Content;
etc...

The programme for the event is, as ever, created by the participants, however
there will be a focus on group discussion rather than long talks.

Pecha Kucha will make an appearance again, as will the round-table
discussions... and we will be hosting a Great Debate on the Thursday Evening
(with wine nibbles.)

We are looking for submissions from managers, librarians, coders, educators
blue-sky thinkers; we are looking for Pecha Kucha talks round-table discussion
ideas and one of them we'll take on for the Great Debate.

We are also delighted to be able to offer space on Wednesday the 1st September
for anyone who wishes to host a meeting or workshop at that time.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Problem Upgrading 1.6.1 to 1.6.2

2010-06-22 Thread Juan Antonio Chaves Naranjo

Hi all,

I detect my fail and I correct it. But now I have a new problem: I can´t
run handle server in dspace 1.6.2!. When I put on shell:
./start-handle-server it showw Command not found: dsrun Command not found:
dsrun :S

Somebody knows this problem???

thanks

 Hi,

The bin directory only has buildpath.bat dspace-info.pl, dspace.bat and
 dsrun.bat.

For installation y did mvn -U clean package and ant
-Dconfig=[dspace]/config/dspace.cfg update. Did you know what I do wrong?

 thanks!

You should have all of these files:
 http://scm.dspace.org/svn/repo/dspace/tags/dspace-1.6.2/dspace/bin/

Its likely that there is only a difference of 4 files between 1.6.1 and
1.6.2 in the bin dir, but double check that your
 [dspace-source]/dspace/bin
has all of these many files.

 there aren´t any errors

will find this in the archive.

run handle server in dspace 1.6.2!. When I put on shell:
./start-handle-server it showw Command not found: dsrun Command not found:

If the dsrun executable is not really missing, you probably don't have
your [dspace]/bin directory in path. That's where the dsrun command
is. Try adding it to your PATH environment variable.

[Dspace-tech] How to set authorizations for all items under a top-level community?

2010-06-22 Thread Rohith Nandakumar
I had added some communites and bitstreams to my dspace. After that, I
created some groups and assigned authorizations to the top-level
communities, so that they can be accessed only by certain groups.

But now my problem is that these authorization do not reflect on the
subcommunities, collections and bitsreams under these top-level
communities.

Is there a way to do that, or do I have to set it manually for each and
every item? There is a lot of data and editing each one of them is not
really possible :(

Thanks in advance

Re: [Dspace-tech] FW: DSpace: Internal Server Error

2010-06-22 Thread keith . gilbertson
Greg,

I think that this error message means that Java can't find an IP address for
the host named dspace-Production. This may be a problem with the network
configuration on the machine.

Is this a Linux machine? If so, what name comes up when you use the hostname
command? Is there an entry for that name in the /etc/hosts file? What about
an entry for dspace-Production?

Hello,

I am no longer getting any HELO command errors in the error log when
clicking the feedback link or trying to register a new user. The
following is the error message. Any hints as what to look for would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

RHEL 5
dspace 1.5.1
tomcat
postgresql

I can telnet to the smtp server using port 25 so I don't think it is any
type of network or firewall error.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace - Missing fields

2010-06-22 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Augustine,

It looks like you forgot to select the option on the first page of the
submission process which says:

The item has been published or publicly distributed before

That first page of options are there by default so that DSpace can
attempt to narrow down which fields you actually need to fill out.

If you leave the above option unchecked, then you will not see the
publication date / publisher fields. However, if you go back and select
it, those fields will automatically appear.

I hope that helps,

- Tim

Re: [Dspace-tech] FW: DSpace: Internal Server Error

2010-06-22 Thread keith . gilbertson
Greg, I'm not sure about whether or not you'd need to do anything after
changing the hosts file. I think I remember a system administrator having to
restart something called nscd after making this sort of change, but it's not
even running on the system I'm looking at now.

On that machine, I see the external IP address specified in the hosts file.

There's also a host.conf file with this in it:
order hosts,bind

I think that makes sure that the hosts file is actually used, instead of
skipping directly to the name server.

Your system might also have a file /etc/nsswitch.conf file with a line like
this:
hosts: files nisplus nis dns
You'd just want to make sure that files shows up first on that line.

This is an odd problem. I don't know much about system administration so maybe
someone else can chime in, or maybe there's someone in your network group who
might have an idea?

-

Keith,

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a Linux machine, and I also thought it was an
issue with the hosts file which did make reference to dSpace-Production.
Running hostname returns dSpace-Production. Do I need to specify the local
or external ip? And does changing the hosts file require a reboot (or anything
else) for changes to take place. I appreciate your time.

Re: [Dspace-tech] How to Check Duplicate Documents or Reports

2010-06-22 Thread Bram Luyten
Hello Mr. Ramadass,

although this functionality doesn't exist in the open source domain (at
least not to my knowledge), @mire offers duplicate detection functionality
as part of our Metadata Quality Module.
It contains an internal similarity algorithm, that can be configured to some
extend (defining which metadata fields have to be taken into account to
identify a duplicate match). As an administrator, you can choose to scan
your whole repository, or certain collections for duplicates. After the
module identified these duplicates, it offers an interface to merge records.
As a result, one item remains while the other handles become referrals to
the merged item. (so your links don't break).

Additional information and demonstration movies are available here:

We do have a version of this module for 1.4.2 JSPUI, but please note that
the movies were made on a 1.5 XMLUI DSpace, and there are differences in the
user interface. The XMLUI version of the module also integrates with the
submission workflow, e.g. users get alerted after filling in a page of
metadata fields, whether their data closely resembles existing items.
The module is also integrated in our test repository, @mire
labshttp://atmire.com/labs,
for which you can get a (free) evaluation admin account.

[Dspace-tech] handle server errors

2010-06-22 Thread Heh, Gregory
RHEL 5

dspace 1.5.1

tomcat

postgresql

I am having issues with the following errors when starting the handle
server. I've already made sure the there is only one instance of the
handle server running by issuing the command:

ps -ef | grep handle

I have seen that it could be caused by either port 8000 or 2641 not
being dedicated. How would I determine if this is the case? If this is
not the cause for the error, I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.5.2 with Shibboleth Authentication and auto-registration problem

2010-06-22 Thread Hélder Silva
Hi everyone,

I've a DSpace 1.5.2 installed with Shibboleth authentication. The
problem is that users who are auto-registered don't have a first name
assigned.
I can see the attributes released by the IdP, in my browser session, and
the first name is present. The same occur in DSpace, in
ShibbolethServlet (it lists all the attributes sent by the IdP in the
log file) and the first name is present.
And the name of the attribute that is configured in dspace.cfg for the
first-name is present in the previous list. But in the profile page the
first name doesn't appear.

Someone experiencing the same problem?

[Dspace-tech] Changes in messages.xml not showing up consistently

2010-06-22 Thread David Holt
I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I've made some changes to
my dspace.cfg file to include an index for dc.identifier.citation. It is
listed in dspace.cfg as:

*webui.browse.index.6 = identifier:metadata:dc.identifier.citation:text*

I've also made changes to my messages.xml file so that this index will
appear as an option to users. I've added:

*message
key=xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.AdvancedSearch.type_identifierBluebook
Citation/message*
* *
*message
key=xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.ConfigurableBrowse.title.metadata.identifierBrowsing
{0} by Citation {1}/message
message
key=xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.ConfigurableBrowse.trail.metadata.identifierBrowsing
{0} by Citation/message*

*message key=xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.Navigation.browse_identifierBy
Bluebook Citation/message*

Now, I've noticed that the changes are visible in some collections, but not
in others. What is causing that? I've updated the indexes and restarted
the server but I still see the changes only in some places, but not others.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I'm running Dspace from a Jumpbox installation so I don't know if I can do a
complete rebuild. If I can, however, can someone point me to directions to
do that?

Here's my Dspace implementation: http://lawarchives.scu.edu

Also, I'm a law librarian, not an IT person, so if everyone could keep it
simple that would be most appreciated. ;)

Thank you SO much. I'm hoping to use this for student law journal
cite-checking assignments. If it works well, I'm sure other law schools
will consider it. I've already gotten interest from other law librarians
about setting up Dspace for their law journals.

Thanks again,

[Dspace-tech] Fwd: Lucene search indexes

2010-06-22 Thread John Preston

one is able to help me?

Hi, I am using DSpace 1.6 and am trying to create some specific indexes and
use them via the query box. So for example I define an index in the
dspace.cfg file as :

search.index.13 = indexname:dc.element.qualifier

where dc.element.qualifier is replaced by my metadata field name. Now in the
query string I can refer to this index by the syntax:

indexname:

This works OK when the metadata field containes strings. However I need some
to be integers and floating point values, so I can refer to them in range
statements such as:

indexname:[1.3 TO 5.6]

When I put floating point values in the metada fields and try the lucene
range statement query syntax it gives unexpected results. it finds the items
sometimes when the value is outside the range and sometimes when it is
inside the range depending on what the range values are.

Now I saw in the codebase that the search.index.n syntax allows a type entry
such that the following sahould create a floating point index field:

search.index.13 = indexname:dc.element.qualifier:float

However this does not work as expected as the range statement does not
return the correct items as per range values. Can anyone say what I am doing
wrong, or not understanding.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Fwd: Lucene search indexes

2010-06-22 Thread Peter Dietz
Hi John,

Sorry for the drought in responses.

I'm not an expert in this section of the code, but it looks like the
predefined types (for the indexer) are:
- text (default)
- timestamp
- date
http://fisheye3.atlassian.com/browse/dspace/dspace/branches/dspace-1_6_x/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/search/DSIndexer.java?r=HEAD#l971

So its definitely ignoring your name:name-space:type of integer or float.

I'm not sure what the solution to this is. I was wondering if a condition
could be added for when (type = integer) or (type = float), but I'm not
sure what you would need to do in the code to get it to work well with
numeric info.
